Not what I thought
2 June 2019
I went into the cinema hoping to see another film like bohemian rhapsody but was a little disappointed. In my opinion it was way to much of an all round musical lacking real substance. I'm sure a lot of people will love it and many will be a little disappointed but overall Elton John is a legend and their are many parts in the film which highlight this.

In rage.
2 June 2019
I just finished the first episode and have never felt so outraged. I wanted to turn it off. I just cannot believe those cops were so corrupt. I will continue to watch so that hopefully justice will prevail. This series is intense and I think it's going be worth watching!

Running Brave (1983)
8/10
Standout Athletics Movie
15 December 2007
This would have to be one of the best true sporting stories ever created on the screen. Billy Mills is a Native American Indian who has to fight against the odds to get to the top. A gifted athlete who is very proud of his heritage works his way to the top and wins the 10,000 metres at the Tokyo Olympics. It highlights the ups and downs an American Indian must face to get recognition as a man and athlete. Robbie Benson seems to be born for the part. He portrays Mills very well to the extent that the running style is very alike. The actual race brings a chill to your spine, especially the way he finishes down the straight. This is a great Movie and any budding athlete should watch it just to see how to become a winner and win against all the odds.

Too Predictable
9 December 2007
Just watched Goal 2 and must say it was fairly predictable in all areas of the movie. Although somewhat entertaining with some good football created by some world class footballers, the story doesn't really turn any interesting corners. When you link it up with Goal, it begins with a talented player who makes good with Newcastle and finally becomes a star with some interesting scenes thrown in. In Goal 2 the obvious occurs, star player goes to a bigger club, gets caught up in the good life, loses his girl, gets injured, works hard and comes back to please everyone. Would I recommend this Movie? Yes and No.... The football is not bad and its interesting to see Beckam and company strut their stuff off and on the field but you would have thought they would have come up with a better storyline rather than churn out the same old stuff.

By the way, you don't see too many movies finish with a "to be continued" Scary stuff!

Classic Story
18 November 2007
I didn't really know much about this Movie until I saw it in the top 250 list. As a lover and collector of classic westerns, I must sadly admit that this one went under the radar!

The movie starts off at a mild pace with Henry Fonda's role seeming to be going nowhere and portraying him as a loose cannon looking for trouble. When the movie really gets going it begins to draw you in and you are involved in this story of total injustice. Thats the beauty of the film. The movie does not hide the fact that the three accused are innocent and thats were you immediately take the side of these men and will the fools who are bent of hanging for the sake of it, to realize the obvious wrong they are committing. Its actually very frustrating to understand why they seem so hell bent of lynching without a fair trial.

Fonda and Anthony Quinn are the two standouts in the film but the supporting cast all play their parts very well.

A true gem of a movie that deserves more accolades than it received, although to make it into IMDb's top 250 is an award on its own.

If you haven't seen the film, do yourself a favor and buy a copy, watch it and keep it in your collection with pride.

Marty (1955)
9/10
One of the Classic's
3 June 2006
Marty is one of the most uplifting movies of all time. The story that surrounds the Movie is simple and meaningful. Ernest Borgnine, probably one of the most underrated actors of his time, is cast as a man who is happy on the outside but sad and lonely inside. Borgnine portrays both sides with perfection.

From the time you meet Marty, you actually start to feel sorry for him, and want to urge him to come out of his shell, and hope he finds a woman that will look after him and vice versa.

The story rolls along well, showing why Marty has been unsuccessful in finding his true love. Marty's best friend seems to be more desperate than Marty himself, and really doesn't help Marty's cause. His mother although very loving is a little selfish and relies on Marty a little to much.

The way in which Marty meets his true love Clara, shows the true character of the man and the heart of gold he possesses. From then on his relationship with her grows overnight as to say this was a match from heaven. There is one scene where Marty is walking down the street with Clara and stumbles into his friends in a car with a "easy" nurse. His best friend pleads with Marty to dump Clara and hitch with them as the nurse is a sure thing, something Marty probably has never had before. At this point the camera moves from Clara to Marty and back again, teasing the audience with what decision Marty will make. This is the turning point of the movie and Marty, thankfully chooses Clara!

The next day, Marty is confronted with some difficult barriers thrown at him by his Mother and friends who have their reasons why Marty should not see Clara again, but his heart chooses the correct path and he and Clara will once again see each other.

The end of the film shows Marty triumphing and phoning Clara to ask her out and you know from that point on that these two lonely people will be together forever.

A true fairytale which leaves you with a good feeling and hope that everyone will meet their true love one day.

Victory (1981)
Motivating Movie
15 July 2003
Many people have passed negative comments about this film.If you study it closely, though, you will notice many positive and original scenes.

The football is not exaggerated like many other sporting Movies.

I first saw it when it was released in 1981/82 and thought it was very good. As a War film it is only average, but as a Football spectacle it is very interesting. The fact that the makers used real life footballers, including the great man himself "Pele" is original. We are actually seeing first class football players do their stuff in a controlled Movie enviroment... Heck some of them even try to act!

I think Michael Caine and Sly would have enjoyed making this Movie.

The message from the Movie is that Football is a game which is understood by everyone and will always be played under any circumstances. It is the Universal game and always will be!

Hard Times (1975)
10/10
Brilliant piece of Work
26 June 2003
I first saw Hard Times with my Father when it was title "Streetfighter". I was 16 years of age.

Ever since then I would have to say that it still is my favourite Movie, mainly because of the character that Charles Bronson portrays. The Movie basically begins with Bronson (Chaney) stepping of a freight train. If you study his face before he steps of the train you can basically see the hard if not troubled life he has lived up to that moment. One wonders how many of these situations that is about to confront him, has he already been through.

Throughout the film Bronson portrays a loner who knows what he has to do and he does it with complete style. Chaney is a man on a mission and James Coburn (Speed) is the perfect person to assist him. Although he does not show hard earned money enough respect, Speed does know how to make it and he see's Chaney as his biggest chance.

Strother Martin is perfectly casted as Poe, Chaneys mender, although most of the time Poe is never required.

The fight scenes are brilliant and can be watched time and time again, mainly due to Chaneys style, confidence and skill. The last two fights really show his skill, not only as a hitter but as a blocker and tactical fighter.

The final match-up draws out to be a fight of complete tactics with many moments of respect shown between the two fighters.

The "In-betweens" are very interesting and fall into place around Chaneys lifestyle.

The setting of the Movie is perfect, and the remainder of the cast play their parts precisely.

I think Chaney is the type of person most men would want to be. Strong, confident with no strings attached. Look carefully at the condition of Bronson's physique at age 54!

I wonder if Poe and Speed do go back and take care of Chaneys Cat!
