A Little Late with Lilly Singh (2019)
I'm not white but for goodness sake can you stop with
The lame, racist, sexist and offensive white people jokes?
We get it, you're a bisexual woman of color with a late night tv show. I don't think anyone over the age of 4 is under the impression that Lily Singh is anything but a woman of color meaning she's a) not a man, and b) not white. We can tell, we are aware trust us! We are not confusing you for another gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality since you told us ....
I just hope that there were more jokes that didn't involve or revolve around the same issues over and over it sounds like a broken record.
Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (2001)
Did we all watch the same movie?
If this was an ordinary film that wasn't so raved about in cinematic history and I watched it with no expectations in mind, I might have given it a 5/10. However, since this movie is meant to be the best French film ever made in the 21st century and everyone was just loving it I bumped my rating down to a 3.
It was disappointing.
I waited so long to watch this film, I remember all I ever wanted to do was just watch this movie when it first came out and I was a kid who wasn't allowed to go to the cinema and obviously I shouldn't have I was way too young for such a movie but I didn't know it.
Now, many years after its release I have finally seen it and I still don't understand it despite being 18 years older and much wiser. This movie was lackluster. I mean the beginning was fine but then it all went bleak once Amelie grew up. The plot isn't great, it's just a boring movie with a heroine who likes doing weird stuff for those around her, I wouldn't call her likable she was alright. The ending sucked too. I don't understand the general consensus.
I think I'm too ignorant to understand this film.
Shazam! (2019)
Mediocre
Well, wise man once said that even if you can write elaborately and eloquently, no matter how great your choice of words is, it doesn't matter how good your command of the language is if the plot of the story is weak your story sucks and this is exactly what this movie is. Good use of FX, good directing, good acting, however the plot just sucked.
The beginning was fine, the fact that little Billy was trying to get to his mom seemed promising but as soon as we get into the superhero transformation the movie gets super dull real quick.
The great wizard spends years and years trying to find a worthy hero, someone whom he's able to transfer his superpowers to, and who will use those powers for good. He never found anyone worthy, but we are expected to believe that somehow Billy is the answer? Well, it seemed quite contrived how he chose Billy to be his successor. He required everyone else to go through a test to which they all failed and that's why he never selected anyone, yet with Billy he just knew from the very moment he saw him or even before, that he is the chosen one. How?
If he was able to know that from the beginning, then why spend years looking for someone worthy? He could have waited till Billy was of age to transfer the powers to him, it would have even spared him from encountering the villain of the story who ended up releasing the 7 sins into the world.
There's no explanation given, I'm not familiar with the comics nor do I intend on reading them anytime soon, if this is a subplot then I expect it to be shown through this film but it isn't.
Billy himself isn't even worthy of being called the chosen one, he uses his powers to drink, go into strip clubs, rob ATMS, and perform street magic shows to make people donate money to him. Yet, he's the CHOSEN one?
Yeah, right... okey.
He spends most of his time arguing with his annoying foster brother. I found Billy to be more mature before he became SHAZAM.
The villain sucks, he's a comical version of what a villian should be like and not in a good way.
I don't think I'm the intended audience, this is clearly not made for adults.
Big Little Lies (2017)
Overrated Shallow Deep Soapy Opera masquerading as a Profound Production.
I managed to skip through a bunch of episodes in between, and I was still able to follow along with the plot because nothing truly ever happens.
The plot is whiney, repetitive, and dull. The characters are unlikable, just a bunch of rich beautiful women who can afford to leave their jobs and still live in fancy mansions overlooking the sea side. They all have great beautiful kids and all they do is attend parties, sip wine, and bicker about each other.
Ultimately the biggest issue (the abusive husband/rapist) gets pushed and dies instantly, the women lie about it being an accident, the PD doesn't bother investigating them further, the case is closed, and they all go back to living their fabulous lives devoid of any real struggle.
CAN'T RELATE.
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019)
Not that good.
PROS:
1-the theme is meant to be about unity, peace, and how different cultures and creatures can come together. I think the overall message is make love not war which is a very positive thing to promote so I'm not against that.
2-The special effects were nice, the setting was nice, the customs were nice. Overall, it's a visually appealing movie.
CONS:
1-There was a lot of violence in this film for a kids' movie. I guess this is promoted as family friendly because there were a lot of parents and their kids at the theater and it does appear as a kids' film, but there is a ton of violence going on. Some pretty dark stuff if you ask me, imprisonment, torture, death, among others .. I'm not sure it's very family friendly.
2-There was no humor involved. The movie was very dramatic and normally family friendly films are meant to be humorous and funny but this one just wasn't.
3-Angelina Jolie wasn't given much opportunity to shine in this one. Yes, she still does a good job as Maleficent but somehow the plot is very limiting. You don't see Maleficent as this three dimensional character in this movie. You see her as a 2-D character at best. Which made the film lackluster IMO.
4-The supporting characters were annoying for the most part and it took them quite a while to understand what was going on. Which made it frustrating from an adult's POV to sit through this film.
I don't think this movie is the worst ever, I think it's average. There are better options out there.
Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)
Disappointing
Before reviewing this title, I'd like to make it clear that I didn't watch Terminator 1 or 2. So, I have no way of comparing this sequel to it's prequels but I'm going to review it as an independent film/story/plot. I don't think the prequels play a huge role in this one, so it wasn't necessary to watch them. There are some flashbacks that provide a "some" albeit minimal context to the story and a new cast too.
Therefore...
I'm going to divide this review into two segments likes and dislikes. So, let's start with the likes.
1-The acting was pretty good. The characters were bearable for the most part, except for one which I'll discuss more about later.
2-The action sequence and the special effects were good.
3-I liked the story from a female POV although that's not as shocking now in 2019 soooo....
4-It was watchable.

DISLIKES:
1-The plot was boring. It was such a cookie cutter. Unoriginal for an action film. I didn't really feel connected to the characters I felt like they were all pretty arbitrary.
2-There were a lot of PLOT HOLES in this movie, the heroine comes from the future but what happens now? Does her going back in time alters the future? Does it have any impact on the future? Or is it all good? It's almost like her going to the past and changing it was inconsequential. Which leads me to believe that maybe the writers didn't think deeply enough about this plot and just used it as an element.
3-The grand savior of this specific movie is super annoying. She's annoying to the core and she has a hard time making the right decisions over and over again in this movie, she's super naive and super dumb. To the point that when she was revealed as the savior I was like whaaaat? You must be kidding?? I don't know how the writers didn't think this through? How can you present someone as being the dummy throughout the film and then expect us to believe that they're this powerful heroine all along? Like the ultimate solution to the universe's existence? It just sounds weird and out of place. I found a hard time rooting for this unlikely heroine because I couldn't believe it or buy into it.
4-If humanity was destroyed by the AI in the 2040s, how come humans possess this powerful technology to time travel? I don't get it. They don't explain that in the film. They also don't explain how they managed to augment the humans? Why did they not have that technology before this war took place?
___________________________________________________________
VERDICT:
I think this movie would have been great, if the writers took enough time to think about how they would develop the story. It seems like they had an idea but they had no way of making it make sense. It's for sure a missed potential.
Chernobyl (2019)
A good show about the horrors of nuclear power.
I liked this show mostly because it points to a very important reality: The horrors of nuclear power and how civilians are the immediate victims in all of this.
While countries are arguing about who and who shouldn't get access to nuclear energy like it's all fun and games and leaders making jokes on twitter about nuking each other, this tragedy is a grim reminder that nuclear energy/power is nothing to be proud of, if anything it is dangerous and the only victims are those who have nothing to do with it. The kids, their parents, the elderly and innocent victims all around. Meanwhile, those same leaders and politicians who get to make those choices are all stripped from responsibility and are just safe in their billion dollar mansions.
If you really need to produce energy, why not go for the cleaner most renewable source of energy? Solar energy or use Wind turbines instead? Who is gonna die when there is an error in these turbines or when their power plants get out of whack? Certainly no one. No one is gonna get cancer or exposure to unnecessary high levels of radiation.
This is why nuclear energy shouldn't be messed with, the risk is too high even under the most experienced and skilled moderators. We all remember what happened in Japan not too long ago, that wasn't due to any human error.
Governments and their propaganda would like to tell us that nuclear energy is only bad if it's in the wrong hands, but really they're no different from what the Soviet Union did or say back when this tragedy happened.
We should all boycott nuclear energy and replace it with cleaner, safer sources and to me that is where the real silver lining of this show comes to place.
Keeping Up with the Kardashians (2007)
Recycled Garbage
I don't understand why E! is still airing this show. The Kardashian clan have already milked their accidental fame and fortune for way too long. They managed to not only reach global fame, but launch the careers of their younger siblings (Kendall & Kylie) as well as secure the future of their children.
I mean if anyone has benefited from the show, they most certainly have and they don't need this show to serve as a catalyst anymore.
This show is clearly redundant, the ratings have been going down since it first aired back in 2007 or 2006 over a decade ago. It's very obvious that the whole show is just scripted, I mean even when it comes to reality TV this show is subpar.
Orange Is the New Black: Here's Where We Get Off (2019)
Not Bad, Not Good, Just Average
I'm a big fan of this show, I think till this date it's the only prison show that is highly entertaining, engaging, and the characters have real depth and can resonate with many people out there.
This show has been the spin off of a boring book in which nothing really happens, and the writers were really able to fully develop the story.
With that being said, this season has been my least favorite. I think the theme of this season is redemption. Each character is on it's path to either coming to terms with what they have done to be imprisoned, or are on their way to being released and trying to make amends with their loved once in the real world.
This season has also been really drama heavy and not so humorous as the past seasons were , I mean it's like hitting a brick wall for all of these characters. They were imprisoned and delusional, and now most of them are finally coming face to face with reality.
I just wish they focused more on the original cast, instead of introducing the newer cast so late into the series. I didn't care for the illegal detainees storylines so much. I found the Shina-Nicky love fling quiet boring, and overall it didn't contribute anything to the plot except serving as a leftist political agenda in which we should sympathise with Shina for being born into the wrong culture and trying to enter the country illegally. I come from the Middle East and while FGM is a thing in some parts, it's most predominant in East Africa, and some parts of North Africa though not all. I'm surprised the producers decided to show us this upper middle class Shina girl, who seems educated enough to speak English and lives in a nice home with her parents who allow her a certain degree of freedom, yet they decide to mutilate their daughter. Most of FGM occurs in villages with people who aren't educated, and are living under the poverty line. People living in cities rarely if ever get FGM. Maybe if they had replaced her character with someone with a more believable background then it would have made it easier to believe all of that. Also, why would they keep the detainees so close to a maximum security prison? I understand that they're all run by the same company, but why did they have to be so close to each other?
Why did they keep Blanca in the Maximum security prison, and only bother transferring her to where the detainees were after they told her she'd be released? Wouldn't it have made more sense if they just did that right away after her green card has been deemed invalid once she pleaded guilty to organizing the riot last season? I mean, if she was going to be detained then why not just let her join the other detainees anyways?
Why was Maritza taken into the deportation centre without anyone checking her documents first? I mean it turns out she had no birth certificate in the first place, but then is it customary for ICE to just raid an entire club and send everyone in it to a detention centre without doing proper background checks? That seems a bit far fetched. Clearly, ICE doesn't just swoop in and send an entire neighborhood to detention centres because some of them are potentially illegal immigrants. Why have Maritza come back just to be deported? She was able to stay in the US for her entire life possibly from infancy, and was sentenced and gone through a trial yet no one, not even her lawyers or the prosecution working against her case bothered checking if she was undocumented? She was held at a federal state prison, and yet she was allowed to roam free afterwards? It only became an issue now it seems. Why wasn't it an issue before? I mean ICE were around way before why did no one bother checking her background?
I can't help but shake the feeling, that this whole deportation subplot is there to serve as an agenda to sympathize with illegal immigrants. The women weren't even kept in horrid conditions, they weren't walking around with chains around their necks while being detained, they were allowed to take showers, roam freely, make phone calls. access the internet (some of them were allowed to reference old cases in which the deportation verdict was overturned), and they were given food that was cooked by other inmates. I'd argue that they were even treated better than those inmates at Max. No one was sent to SHU or beaten. Yes, they were kept isolated but then they were there for their own hearing, it wasn't like they were kept there as a punishment. If they were allowed to roam free then they would all find ways to escape. I don't know why the show is trying so hard to paint ICE as the bad guys for doing their job? I mean at least no drugs were being smuggled into the detention centre and no CO was forcing an illegal immigrant to do his/her dirty work for him. So, what's the point? I would have rather they stuck to showing us the original cast who were sent to Ohio instead, but they only make a cameo appearance at the very end.
The other thing that ruined the show for me was the Alex-Piper relationship. I'm sorry I understand most people like these two together, but I just never did. I think Alex & Piper should have broken up, Piper was on her path to shedding her old skin and coming to terms with who she was as a person, and her choice was to continue being associated with someone who effectively ruined her life by having her make bad choices.
I'm sorry they had to get rid of Barb and Carol so fast, they made good villains and they could have chosen to continue their story arches into this season, but for some reason they had to go, and now are replaced by the other beta villains who all died or were just transferred.
I also didn't like how they kept referring to the prison as MAXIMUM security, when in reality it's pretty much a medium security prison. A Maximum security prison would entail the prisoners being kept locked in their cells for hours on end, and are never allowed to go out unless it was for a short period of time.
As a show that is all about the prison system in America, you'd think they'd at least get their nomenclature right.
Also, Aleida who was out for the previous 3 seasons gets arrested for breaking someone's car and damaging their property, yet she is being sent to the same Maximum security prison that her daughter is in, and the one she smuggles drugs into via her CO boyfriend. I find that weird, weren't there any other minimum security prisons for her to go to? Maybe once in another county? What about state prisons? It doesn't seem like her crime was THAT bad, she was locked up in a minimum security facility for dealing drugs, yet for damaging someone's personal property she is sent straight to Max? Why? She wasn't around when the riot happened for her to be transferred into Max with the other inmates.
Her bf ends up fired due to having inappropriate relations with her, but he could have been easily fired by them finding out he's smuggling drugs into the prison which is just as illegal.
Also, we never find out what happens to Daya, she seems to just go on with her drug dealing without being caught. Wasn't Luschek responsible for bringing the drugs in? What happens now that he's been fired? Who took his place? Did she stop entirely now that she has no "connect"? That was never answered.
Black Mirror: Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too (2019)
Just Okey
I love Black Mirror, I always did. The first 4 seasons of this show are the most thought provoking I've ever seen. Yes, they are riveting and dark but that's what I always liked about them.
This episode was, alright. It lacked the thought provoking element that the other episodes had. It was entertaining, but I mean beyond an average storyline and a guest star appearance by Miley Cyrus there's really nothing special about it. It did seem very lackluster compared to the other episodes we are very much used to.
We do see an element of the unexpected here and there, technology is still the focal point but this time instead of the theme being why technology is used for purely bad and evil things that can ruin people's lives, it also is apparently used to save lives hooray.
I think this was a very light hearted episode, was it atrocious? No. Is it the best we have yet to see from a show like Black mirror? No.
Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)
THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU HAVE BAD WRITERS THAT RUN OUT OF SOURCE MATERIAL.
Everything about this finale was just atrocious and terrible. D&D are incredibly terrible writers and it shows. It's no surprise that this series has been in constant decline since season 5 when the writers just so happened to run out of the source material. Then they decided to make up their own storyline, that was both abysmal and tedious. They had 2 years to come up with a good ending, they had money, resources and time yet they chose to wrap things up so quickly without much thought regarding whether it would even make sense or not. It almost feels like they were just so bored with what they had that they just didn't care anymore, so why not just put anything there and end it all.
Screw you D&D.
Insatiable (2018)
A GOOD SOAP OPERA THAT ISN'T GROUNDED IN REALITY
I liked this show, I was amused by it. It's not a terrible TV series, not much better or worse than what you would normally see on TV nowadays.
With that being said, my 5 star rating comes from the overweight, food addict in me. I'm sorry, I can't give this a perfect score.
What I liked, is that having gone from being obese to being overweight myself I can relate to the idea that losing weight isn't going to fix your problems. It didn't fix the heroine's problems; in fact now she has even more stress and more social pressure than when she was heavier. People look at her different, cause she went from someone who's plus size to someone who looks like a ripped fitness model or something. Something that happens more often than not, especially if you're a teen or a young adult. younger people tend to be shallow and superficial so that is completely accurate.
People like her now, not because she's a better person but because she looks better. The other thing that I just couldn't wrap my head around, was how unrealistic the weight loss is, no you don't lose weight on a liquid diet then keep it off once you're off that diet. She has every single character trait of someone who likes to comfort eat, someone who's an emotional eater, someone who eats their feelings away and she was forced into losing weight because her jaw was broken but didn't do any therapy to fix her binge eating issues or more so, her psychological issues.
The end result is, someone who's unlikable, someone who doesn't have a clue what they're doing and just going with the flow.
I'm worried that teens are going to look up to this, and think yeah I'm just gonna go into a starvation diet, have nothing but liquids for 3 months and do no exercise or anything then the pounds will come off. Yes, you can lose weight if you're restricting your calories but then it's not healthy nor should it be recommended.
I wish, they made her go into an epiphany where she actually wanted to lose the weight, went on a diet and exercised and saw a counselor for her emotional issues instead of just using it as a very convenient sub plot.
I also, wish the weight loss was more realistic, you can't be overweight all your life and then lose weight through unhealthy means and look like a fitness model with a flat stomach and a perfect beach body I'm sorry you just can't. If anything you would look like a smaller version of your old self, you'd have stretch marks and chances are you will gain some of that weight back after your crash diet.
Please, don't try to imitate any of this weight loss by yourself. You will increase your chances of getting metabolic syndrome and messing up your metabolism. If you have any binge eating tendencies then see a proper dietitian, nutritionist and a therapist to work on the emotional aspects of your binge eating.
Leaving Neverland (2019)
Overhyped
Before I review this title, please allow me to start by saying that I was born in the 90s, I am much younger than the two main subjects of this documentary and I was still a child when the allegations and the court case started so I came to this documentary having no background or insight about any of that. I watched this thing with no biased opinion whatsoever, in fact this is my first time even watching anything remotely related to the allegations against Michael Jackson and I was willing to take everything into prospective.
My thoughts about this docu/series is that it's lackluster. It's more about how these two ordinary kids ended up not only meeting, but befriending one of the biggest celebrities of that time, if not of all time than it is about the supposed allegations.
The allegations are just personal anecdotes that are thrown in the mix, with little proof or evidence to back any of them up. There is very little emotion coming out of the alleged victims, most often than not they come across as emotionless when they're retelling the story of how they were victimized as children. In one instance, one of the alleged victims talked about how MJ introduced him to masturbation and he even had a hint of a smile when he was recounting these "horrific" experiences.
They also mostly spoke about him with great fondness. Their family members spoke about Michael Jackson with great fondness. I mean no one seemed to be upset or annoyed by what he did. Most of the time, it was just a cloud of yeah everything was normal, they were just doing kids stuff.
My personal thoughts on this whole situation is that this documentary didn't convince me of anything. I had watched many documentaries in my time, that were pretty convincing on other subject matters, I don't know about other documentaries that are related to this issue that might be more convincing but this one was simply not.
The only thing this documentary convinced me is that, these families sexual allegations or not were exploiting Michael Jackson as much as he "supposedly" exploited them. Remember, we can't tell for sure if Michael Jackson did or didn't commit these acts although I'll be mostly leaning toward NO, but we know for sure that to these kids and their families it was just all fun and games. They found a celebrity who is super famous, wealthy and had connections and that automatically made their ordinary lives better. So, yeah of course they would push their kids more toward him and his company.
Velvet Buzzsaw (2019)
Another Crappy Movie By Netflix
I thought this was going to be interesting, but it totally missed the mark, The acting was lame, the story plot is unoriginal and highly predictable. I can't really blame the actors for doing a mediocre job it's not like they had much opportunity to begin with given the script. Every single character is one dimensional, the love triangle is thrown in for no reason and doesn't add anything to the already crappy storyline. I guess the movie's premise is that everyone who tries to benefit from some dead artist's work is a greedy piece of s** and deserves to be cursed or something like that. I didn't care much, I don't care and I am totally irritated by how boring this movie is. This is 1 and a half hours I won't get back.
The Open House (2018)
Stupid and Lame
This movie is a complete waste of time.
Now, most movies have three acts. Act I. II and III but this movie only has II Acts.
In the first one, everything seems fine then goes bad in the second one everything gets worse and then it ends. There is no explanation for any of this, no background no nothing. It seems like half of the movie was cut off for some reason and only the unexplained bits are kept.
Ugh, worst movie ever.
Leave No Trace (2018)
So... what was the story again?
The plot is quite simple. Man and his daughter live in the woods, nonconformists society we get that.
Problem is when the authorities don't, so what do they do? They take our two main characters and offer them shelter, clothing and a house as well as a real opportunity to integrate into the community.
Girl wants to say, Dad doesn't because he doesn't wanna be "one of them" and dresses like them or whatever...
And that's it.
I got bored halfway through, watching two people just wandering off in the woods from one place to the next to escape society.
I also got bored with the dad's character and his selfish desires, I get that you want to live a solitary life away from civilization and responsibilities sometimes I fantasise about that too. But then isolating your only child from the world doesn't seem like a good idea, depriving her from any real human interaction seems lonely and awful.
What is going to happen once her dad dies? The dad of course, doesn't think about any of that except his own agenda and we are never told why! Usually with these type of eccentric or shall I say unusual behaviors we are at least given a motivation or explanation but seems like this movie couldn't think of one.
All we know is that he doesn't want to be around civilization and that's it. We also never find out what happened to the girl's mother.
As a result, the plot falls flat and boring.
Sorry to Bother You (2018)
Just Meh
Unfortunately, it seems like the writers or director of this film didn't know in which direction it wanted it to go.
Was it meant to be science fiction? Drama, Comedy? A political commentary. Who knows? What about just adding different elements from all of the mentioned above and in the end this is what you get. A mixed bag of everything with no real resolution and an unfulfilling ending.
Yes, this movie has a lot of loose ends that never get tied. It seems like the makers were really undecided, so they left it up to the viewer's imagination. Not to mention that the twists and turns are so far fetched, they're almost surreal.
This could have been a good movie, and it isn't horrible per say the production is wonderful the acting is alright. The story elements are its downfall.
I'm not sure what the bigger picture is supposed to be.
Love, Simon (2018)
7.7 Are you kidding me?
This movie was such a snoozefest. I have no idea how it generated such a high rating on IMDB.
This is nothing but your average cookie cutter of a high school/teen movie, you could literally swap Simon's character and his identity as a homosexual with anything else and it wouldn't take out much of the plot.
Rich and privileged white boy, living in a luxurious mansion with liberal parents. Liberal high school educators, and accepting friends freaks out, why? Because, he is a closeted homosexual and is scared of coming out even though he knows nothing bad would happen. His head won't get chopped off, his parents won't disown him, his friends won't make fun of him .. everything will be fine yet he feels scared. Then one supporting character, stumbles upon his secret and blackmails him ...... fast foward sometime later, his secret is of course revealed and throw in some complication with his friends and some minor bullying and then viola.. Simon redeems himself, his friends are content with him again, his family accepts him, he finds love and his classmates don't care about his sexual orientation..
The end!
Now, I don't know about you but I never saw that coming! "sarcasm"
I didn't care about Simon or his issues, because he had no real stakes anyways. Maybe, you could change the setting to a less accepting environment of gays and then it would make for a much more compelling story. Simon's sexual orientation had no qualms or significant consequences either ways which made the story just too passive.
Cam (2018)
Nothing
I watched this film out of boredom rather than real interest and these are my thoughts on it .... Nothing
It's like I watched a whole 60 minutes of nothing.
Very generic.
Forgettable acting.
Setting is lame and the ending is rather anti climatic.
Way to build a hype and not live up to it.
14 Cameras (2018)
Dumb and Stupid
Yes, I'm ashamed to admit that I watched the prequel 13 Cameras as well right before I watched this travesty. I was bored and there wasn't anything interesting to watch so I just viewed this one.
First of all, the creepy old guy is effing creepy I mean I understand they had to make his character sick but seriously his appearance too? I'm very sure that in real life creeps don't appear to be creeps, they might seem very normal and yet our bad guy here gives everyone the creeps the moment they meet him. He smells bad too apparently and his mouth stinks. He also never really talks, except in a monotones voice and sometimes he just mumbles or cringes to show his dissatisfaction I suppose. Not sure, if he is the quite type or if he has a limit vocabulary range.
Anyways, where did he get the money to buy all these fancy houses? are they even his? If so, then why is he living in a dump? He has like 2 or 3 real estate all with swimming pools and eight bedrooms yet can't be bothered to enlarge his own living quarters.
Apparently, he likes to take care of his victims too. You see, instead of the usual physical or sexual abuse. Our guy here just locks them up in some warehouse and feeds, bathes them even. Why does he bathe them if he reportedly stinks? I mean isn't it risky to take them out every now and then for a quick bath?
Also, it's just frustrating to see this guy get away with murder, kidnapping and invasion of privacy nonetheless for too long. Apparently one of his victims have been locked up for years on end. I just can't believe that no one reported them missing or that no one suspected him since he's the landlord after all and all these murders are happening on his property.
I thought, this movie was gonna be a wrap but apparently it's not. We still have a sequel it seems. One that I will not be watching.

Sierra Burgess Is a Loser (2018)
VERONICA WINS THE CAKE!
I don't know what coming of age stories represent to you guys, but to me it is all about character development. I remember when I was a kid in high school and how I went through my own transition from a shy, nerdy kid to a more outgoing, outspoken person.
You could almost say that high school is nothing but the first hurdle in a long series of upcoming hurdles that we all face in our lives, some of them maybe change us for the best or the worst, but ultimately we all grow and change somehow.
Now, this movie is clearly about Sierra Burgess and how she's portrayed as this victim of bullying, victim of ridicule, victim of fat shaming and yada yada. However, aside from her superficial looks, the creators totally ignored her character flaws to a boot. She's a catfish, she lies and manipulates her way into the life of former mean girl Veronica who comes from a less fortunate background as Sierra. She then proceeds to lie to this other guy who is nothing but sweet and compassionate to everyone around him, if anything this whole movie is about the manipulation of Sierra Burgess and how she uses people to her advantage one way or the other. In the end, she doesn't even have to change or redeem herself in anyway! She just gives a whimsy apology to those she hurt, lied to and deceived all this time and then viola, everything is forgiven! Not only does her best friends forgive her, she even ends up getting her happy ending!
On the other hand, Veronica goes from this bully queen to someone more compassionate and more caring. Despite her crazy household life and Sierra's drama, she does the right thing over and over again. If anything it is Veronica that changes and goes through character development not Sierra. Yet, the movie creators only focus on Sierra for some reason even if she stays flat out the same the entire film.
Black Panther (2018)
"Death is better than bondage"
As a self proclaimed movie buff I feel a little embarrassed to say that this was my first time ever watching a Marvel Motion picture. I have watched the Marvel shows on Netflix but nothing else.
My initial thoughts are what a marvelous movie. I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't think I'd like this as much as I did. The more you get into this film, the better it gets. The beginning 1/3 of this movie was a bit generic, it seemed pretty ordinary until then but as soon as you get into the second half of this film the plot thickens and you are hooked. It had depth, it has dimension. It has a great message behind it. I loved the characters, the cinematography was amazing. This is a great film to watch if you're a sucker for science fiction and a bit of soul in it.
Brilliant!
Tomb Raider (2018)
Better than the once starring Angelina Jolie
I remember watching the movies released with Angelina Jolie in them more than a decade ago, that was my first introduction to Lara Croft as a character and I remember hating her for years to come, not that Angelina Jolie was a bad actress or anything but the plot in those films were tremendously obnoxious and the character seemed beyond comical.
This movie is a big improvement over that, is it realistic? No, but it had elements of realism in it. Lara Croft is a more relatable character in this version of events, she's a human not an action figure. A person with motives and aspirations. Some of the other characters got on my nerves but I think the ending wrapped it pretty well.
Since this is the first movie, the plot for sure could have been better but it deliveres what is it promised to do. A cohesive plot, three diemnsionl characters and entertaining action scenes. It's a bit nostalgic since it reminded me a lot of Indiana Jones but with a strong female lead instead.
Looking forward for a sequel.
The Greatest Showman (2017)
Good Musical. Inaccurate History
I both loved and disliked this movie for completely different reasons. I loved this movie in part because it's enjoyable, entertaining and for the most part it delivers on what is promises. The songs were fun, they were catchy. The acting was pretty good. It is a feel good movie with a lot of touching scenes. However, the story is meant to be loosely based on the life of PT Barnum and the story in the movie bares little resemblance to the actual life of the real PT Barnum, whatever is based on reality is very mundane and vague that the movie producers could have easily made this film about a fictional character that had ambitions to kickstart a circus and it would have been completely fine. Most of the story here is fictional anyways and for good reason. The producers have took liberties in sugarcoating this movie from the actual exploitive nature of its history and turning it into a fun loving and for the most part family friendly musical. Gotta give them props for making a bleak and unpleasant experience joyous but nonetheless that doesn't completely eradicate the fact that this story is meant to be based on PT Barnum who isn't a very lovable character.
Anyways, just thought I'd throw this trivia out there for anyone thinking of watching this movie. For the most part this is still a good movie to watch with touching emotional scenes. I do recommend you watch it, but bear in mind that it has very little links to actual reality of what PT Barnum was like as a person.
The Shape of Water (2017)
Good Movie, Wrong Oscar Choice
After winning Best Motion Picture of the year, against some pretty tough competition I just had to watch this movie and see what is it all about. I had a faint idea of what the story was going to represent. I knew already that it was about a woman falling in love with a sea creature (this isn't exactly spoilers) but I didn't know what to expect so I didn't have high expectations really.
The film was good, the story was ok. The cinematography was great. It is a beautiful movie and an even better love story. I can see it appealing to a variety of people, it is original and less cringe worthy than a lot of romantic movies nowadays. I can't really complain much about this film, I found it very enjoyable in fact and would recommend it to anyone.
Did it deserve Best Motion Picture of the Year? In my humble opinion: No, it did not.
The fact that this movie was a feel good, cookie cutter of a film is exactly why it should not have won best motion picture. The story isn't revolutionary or controversial. I can think of a few other films that are more influential and have great substance to them. The Shape of Water is just a love story and that is it.
I wish the academy would have picked another film, but I wasn't surprised that they picked this one out of the all the other once either.
