Epic Movie (2007)
You should know what this is!
Let's star off by telling you what this movie isn't, it's not a big budget classic comedy film that'll be on the top ten list of anyone. It's not a block buster that'll stand the test of time. It's not The Naked Gun or Hot Shots either.
So what is it? It's funny, it's what you expect in a knock off of the big budget block busters that it makes fun of. I've read numerous reviews from people who spent their entire review trashing this film. This was evidence to me that they clearly had no clue what they were going to see.
Any time a film is not made available for critics before being released you should know it's not the greatest movie ever made. My suggestion is you watch this film understanding what it's not and just lighten up a tad.
Peter, Paul & Mary: Holiday Concert (1988)
Classic Christmas Songs and Classic Peter, Paul and Mary Songs
I came across this holiday concert back in the early 1990's on PBS and watched it every year until they stopped airing it. Thankfully I had a VHS copy so I was able to continue the tradition of watching this several times during the holidays. I recently purchased the DVD and am once again enjoying this concert. Peter, Paul and Mary are well known for their numerous hits during the 1960's and their voices blend very well. They are backed by an orchestra and concert choir. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves great music and talented singers. The trio seamlessly switches from traditional Christmas carols to songs they composed as well as to songs they took the top of the charts. Be prepared to wipe tears away as they sing Blowin In The Wind, or to recall your childhood when Puff The Magic Dragon is sung. Among my favorites is Children Go Where I Send Thee as well as Silent Night and the Cherry Tree Carol.
The Comancheros (1961)
Great John Wayne vehicle
I recently replaced my tired old TV with a hi-definition TV and this was among the first movies I watched and I must say the Duke in hi-definition is awesome. This is a great western with some comedy thrown in to keep it from being too dark. The story focuses on Wayne's character as he brings a wanted fugitive from Louisiana in for justice only to be hit over the head with a shovel and losing the fugitive. Stewart Whitman is the heartthrob in this one with Duke playing more of a fatherly role. Plenty of action and a wonderful soundtrack from Elmer Bernstein leaves nothing to be desired after viewing this film. I've watched this movie too many times to count and can never get enough of it. Word is Michael Curtiz was ill during filming and the Duke took on a lot of the directors duties but refused a co-director credit showing just how honorable the Duke really was. Thanks Duke and company for providing me with many of my favorite films including this one.
