The Bold Type: Pilot (2017)
Actresses look like they're fresh out of high school?
Why are the main characters looking like teenagers, when they're supposed to be career women (not girls)? Are we 20 and already done with college, work experience and up the latter? In what world does that make sense?
Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey (2020)
Way too long
The movie is way too long. Some songs and scenes are definitely not necessarily and I don't understand how no one saw that before releasing it. The ambitions with this movie are too high and it's just a mess because they want to include way too many elements in it. My 2 stars are for costumes, hair and special effects. The costumes and hair are Oscar worthy.
The Prom (2020)
A walking cliché
The movie really lacks depth and emotions.
Meryl Streep is absolutely great and gorgeous as usual but James Corden, as much as I love him, honestly, but his acting in this is God awful! Absolutely terrible! Nicole Kidman is really trying and for the most pulls through.
The songs are also a musical cliché.... Exactly what you'd expect from an amateur musical- I am shocked that with this level of A list actors that the songs weren't better. I can't even remember a single one...
And the character Emma lacks depth too. She's always smiling even though her world is crushing down and when she cries, it looks so shallow with your typical facing the camera, back turned to whoever is with her, and pretty crying. Absolutely unbelievable! (The girl can sing though) It's like they want her to constantly be this happy go lucky person but it's just not realistic for a teenager to be that way when facing a crisis!
I was pleasantly surprised by Michael Keegan's musical debut though. I love that he was in this movie. Thank God for him and Meryl Streep. But seriously don't watch it. It's horrible.
Swiped (2018)
Is this even a professional movie?
The level of amateurism in this movie is astounding! From the acting, the story line to the sound techs! Everything is a horrible train wreck! I only watched it all the way through to please my 15 year old step daughter. And frankly I'm worried that she watches this crap! Women who think the only way men will have anything to do with them is to sleep with them, not even want to know anything about them and throw them out like trash the second they're done? Women who think it's important to get attention from men? And don't get me started on toxic masculinity in this one! It's absolutely unbearable, aweful and an abomination! Do not waste your timea please!
Eighth Grade (2018)
I wanted to like this movie so badly
I really thought this movie would be great. It wasn't unfortunately. We meet Kayla and I think most girls/women can recognise that insecurity we use to have as a young girl. But the movie just stagnates a bit until the car scene towards the end that dramatizes the story all of a sudden but doesn't really leads us anywhere, leaving us questioning what it's purpose was. I think the movie can help us relate to the younger generation and help us remember that it is a difficult age- especially emotionally but story-wise? The movie is hopeless and leading us absolutely nowhere. Too bad.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Oh Tarantino.... no....
Truthfully I wasn't sold from the start on this movie but as a Tarantino fan, I ended up budging. Honestly I could've done without. This movie is so random, I don't even know what to say. One of the things I think we all enjoy about Tarantino is the way he can build up a dialogue to let us into a characters personality. Unfortunately this movie is nothing but never ending scenes of Leonardo reanacting scenes from Darltons' movies/shows, leading us absolutely nowhere. It truly feels like Tarantino just wanted to geek out with this one. Introducing random characters like Bruce Lee for no apparent reason, but us fans we know, we know Tarantino likes him so it kinda makes sense, but to the story? Noooooot really. This movie is exactly that aaaaaaaall along. Two and a half hour of random scenes. Don't waste your time watching it.... I just gave it 5 stars for the ending and acting but that's it!
Ps; can we get the old Tarantino back? The one that uses "old" actors? Not huge names like Leo and Brad? They're great but it really kills the whole nostalgia, original and authentic vibe he use to bring us. Quentin, have you sold out just a bit?
Miss Americana (2020)
Every has problems and if they don't they look for them
I'm not a Taylor Swift fan but I thought I'd watch it anyways ( people can surprise you sometimes) aaaand it was honestly exactly as bad as I thought it would be. You see Taylor talking about her perfect childhood and she of course makes it in the music industry quickly because let's face it she's white, skinny and cute. Aaand then the whinning starts about how hard it's all been for her. As a woman I can relate to some of the things she says but honestly someone needs to give her a good old slap in the face and tell her to snap out of it. Because hearing her whine about all the pressure of the business, Kanye, etc. It gets old real fast. She demonstrates how utterly blind she is to her own privilege- she's rich, she's her own boss, she can do what she wants, when she wants to, she can have any guy in the world, etc. She's clearly had a good support system in her parents since she's not ended up losing it like Miley, Britney, Lindsay... She needs a dosage of real life problems if she wants to be relatable and this whole pretending to be brave because she's "stood up to her record company" because she wants to voice her political opinion all of a sudden is bs. A loooot of artists have been very vocal about it for decades, even artists her age and lower, she's only doing it now cuz it's trendy, thus continuing to be a good girl trying to be liked. Oh the irony....
En frygtelig kvinde (2017)
How this ever got nominated for anything is beyond me
As the title gives away, this movie is about a horrible woman. However I'd say it's very much about the lead character as well. The director and creator of this story, revealed in an interview that this horrible woman was created as a mixture of all the women he's been with. Which makes sense when you know it. When you don't, the lead woman seems like a sociopath who likes to toy with her boyfriend. Objectively it's easy to follow. But the movie lacks complete insight and to go to greater depths with the characters. The lead role, the man selfdoubts himself so much, is obviously so miserable and only tells her off after weeks of being fed up with her, that leaves you not feeling sorry for him at all. All you can think of is how weak he seems to be. Hereby why, we're lacking depth. If we could see, better understand how she little by little takes away his self esteem or takes over or like a typical deranged and manipulative person, she'd toy with him. But no, all you see is her getting meaner and meaner and never apologising for it. Which only leaves us thinking that the lead character is an idiot who just doesn't stand up for himself and frankly the ending just let's us know that he is just that. Too bad. The lead actress however plays superbly.
Paper Heart (2009)
This movie is trying to be something it's not.
I watched this movie, thinking I'd be watching a documentary about love, moreover it doesn't hurt that Michael Cera is in it. I usually really enjoy his movies. However I was left feeling very disappointed and cheated. I really do not believe for one second that Michael and Charlyne were ever dating. For starters Charlyne is an extremely bad actress and how convenient is it not that they meet, just as they started this documentary and we get to witness their "relationship" growing? The whole thing feels fake and set up. We have Nick insisting (in a very too obvious way) that he wants to catch everything on tape. I am left wondering what it is he is hoping to catch? At no point do we witness anything between Michael and Charlyne! There is no chemistry, no spark. It's all awkward (a bit too forced and indie if you ask me) and even their first kiss feels forced. As a director, if their relationship was real, Nick should have seen this and pulled the plug on going in that direction. This movie is about finding love and trying to figure out what love is. Yet the only thing it focuses on is a really bad "relationship". Charlyne & Nick travel around, and interview people, yet we don't really get any answers. I feel that the right questions have not been asked. They even go to Paris, "The city of love". Why don't we see anything from there? All we see is Charlyne walking around. Why aren't there any interviews? Why haven't they tried to find out what love is there? It makes absolutely no sense to keep on focusing on Michael and Charlyne when in Paris. Charlyne seems sweet but she lacks charisma, she's obviously awkward and shy (not in a good way) and doesn't shine through. We follow her through a whole movie and we never get to see the true her. How can that be a good choice for a leading person? Michael (and Nick at times) does all the fun things, he is his usual quirky self, which also makes you wonder how real this all is. These "romantic" moments feel forced and acted unfortunately, and I never see any true signs of attraction between those 2. The ending leaves you with a sense of confusion and meaninglessness. I feel that I have wasted my time, this movie is all cute anecdotes and doesn't ask or try to go further in the question of what love is. I feel a great let down, because I usually love Nick and Michael tremendously.
