The Lone Ranger (2013)
Hi Ho Silver - back to days of my childhood
Years ago I would go to a theater - and leave some coins at the ticket window - along with my sense of reality. I would then escape the world - and enjoy another reality. This movie takes me back to those days. I loved the movie.
I think that Depp/Tonto 'owned' the movie for the first two hours - with the Lone Ranger being drug along in various stages of willingness. Furthermore - Tonto had all of the good lines.
At about 23 minutes from the end of the movie, Tonto gets out of the driver's seat - to make room for "The Lone Ranger". Minimal dialog, lots of action, chases, pithy one liners and a great sense of joy and satisfaction all occur in a short 20 minute window.
For me - one of the great movies of the past several years.
Yes, historical inaccuracies abound, and the guns often seem to never run out of bullets, laws of physics are suspended and silliness prevails. BUT - remember you were supposed to leave 'reality' at the box office - before you entered the theater.
The Pirate Movie (1982)
Cute movie
I think this is a cute comedy - a clear variation made in 1982 of the Gilbert and Sullivan 'Pirates of Penzance'. This movie lends itself more to teenage girls. It is a fun movie! My daughter loved it - probably because it gave her someone to look up to or fantasize emulating. My daughter liked the costumes. There was no swearing, no blood or violence. It was good clean fun. The music and singing was a big hit for our family while watching it. The movie was not a big hit, the acting was not great, no-one got any big awards. But it was a feel good movie that was exciting for young teenagers to watch. It took a long time to come to DVD. I wish it was available on Vudu.
Delivery Man (2013)
Yes, Wozniak was a real screw-up - but ...
I saw this movie in a theater. Without going into the details of the movie - let me tell you how I feel about it. I really have never been a fan of the star - Vince Vaughn. I anticipated that his character David Wozniak would be a total screw-up - and would stumble through the movie, messing with the lives of his biological children. I was HALF right - he WAS a royal screw-up, but as he 'stumbled' through the mess of having 533 children - you could see him grow, and improve himself. He sought to be a better man, a better father, and a generally better human being all the way around. This was a fabulous feel good movie. Seeing this movie gave me a better outlook on life. If a screw-up like David could turn around - and at least head in the right direction, then so can I and others. The portrayals by the other actors seemed genuine and believable. I wouldn't take younger children to this show - it would probably take too much explaining. I WILL look at future shows Vince Vaughn in a different light. I liked the movie enough that I bought it on DVD as well as loaded it up to VUDU.
