Music (2021)
The sound of ableism
3 years of research for the movie and we got this.
A missed opportunity, shallow and offensive.
Ill informed, and add the scenes where Music is restrained, which are cruel and dangerous.
Insted of using real autistic actors, which would add depth and understanding to the character, we got excuses.
Such a tone deaf movie, which is ironic because Sia is a musician.
The fact that Sia's telling people with autism to watch a movie that could cause sensory issues while claiming she's researched autism is just really infuriating
Is it just me or Sia referring to Maddie as "her little dancing muse" comes off as really creepy?
Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)
How to not make an ending
I like to think that the Long Night deserved at least 5 episodes alone, they could have created an amazing story arc. But no, it all cam tumbling down with a finale that leaves so many plotholes. Arya's journey with previous motiffs were all for nothing, Jon basically goes Dances with Wolves in the end.
It feel like the writers were in a rush to end the whole thing, no fan service whitstanding. No character development to justify how it all ended. Just a rushed mess that basically ruins 8 seasons of enjoyment.
Game of Thrones: The Long Night (2019)
How to hijack expectations
The series served as a milestone for good writting and unexpected turns.
But not this episode. I won't go into spoilers, at this time it feels pointless.
8 years in making, building up to a battle of epic proportions. But all we got was a cop-out.
The way this "epic" episode played out gave no room for character development. It didn't play its chance to offer backstory to the main villains, the white walkers, just a missed opportunity.
In the end you felt you didn't care for anyone, just a mess of an episode.
Dark and soulless, how a show comes close to the end, and you have no reason to watch the last three episodes.
All we received in terms of fan service, was spit in the face.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Overhyped for nothing
What can we say? The best part of this movie is that we won't get any more Avenger movies.
I won't go into spoilers, to ruin the fun for someone. But in my personal view, the movie does the series no justice. I'd say it buries it.
From overused tropes and reused cliches, Endgame feels low budget, with lazy writing, lacking character development.
Also, I can't wrap my head around the fact that so many reviews on IMDB come from users with fresh accounts, a few days old, that give this movie stellar ratings.
My oh my, how the mighty have fallen, and silently accepted "vote brigading", probably for a few bucks for some server expenses.
The Maze (2011)
Monumentally hypnotic
The Maze is a documentary like no other, I can tell you that.
Right from the start we're given a in depth glimpse into William Kurelek's maze, animated with great love. As the life events unfold, as we're left wondering, so too the story unfolds.
Like William stated: " the painting is that of a man with anunraveled head lying in a wheat field. A curled up laboratory rat, representing his spirit, is trapped inside a maze of unhappy thoughts and memories", so too you'll find a call for introspection.
The documentary follows Williams life, from a simple boy born in an canadian-ukrainian family, a troubled life, up to the point of him becoming Canada's most celebrated artist.
We should all give thanks to mr. Robert Young, from the moment he started creating the documentary in 1969, and the moment the longer version was found, and put so respectfully together by Nick Young and Zack Young.
Nick and Zack have rephotographed the original paintings and with the use of modern visual effects the results speak for themselves.
The score works superbly with what the Young brothers have so masterfully put together, you'll find moments of great depth.
The interviews, Williams thoughts about life, the people around him add so much flavor to an already great documentary.
One last detail, the documentary does little to dissipate the air of mystique surrounding William Kurelek's life and art, rather it welcomes the viewer to empathize with him and experience his art.
The Traveler (2010)
It's worth a try
Seeing how this movie racked up such poor reviews, I decided to give this movie a go. And honestly, it's not that bad, the first half of the movie is really intense and gripping, Mr. Nobody's whistling of "Lacrimosa", and overall demeanour boosts the tension, high as it is already, and the character seems well fleshed out.
Sadly there are a lot to complain about, and this isn't coming from the perspective of a movie snob, with impossible to reach standards, but more on how the movie drags on...painfully long on some moments.
Take for example the flashback of the homeless man, beaten and killed, you're gonna see that moment on and on and on, till you're close to quitting the movie.
Another moment that drags on is the death of deputy Jane Hollows(played by Camille Sullivan), which simply goes on for too long for anyone's liking, it just ruins the whole pacing of the movie.
If you watch this movie without any expectations, you might get a few surprises, and consider the pacing worth it. But if you're expecting a pure horror/thriller, just don't watch it, cause it has numerous cliches that have been used and re-used till they seem quirky.
To conclude this review, it's a movie that delivers some genuilely tense moments, and it leaves this impression on how good it could have been if the director would have trimmed the movie down a bit, taken down on the repetitions, and made the finale more intense. The first half of the movie is where you'll get your thrills from, the second half seems like they wanted to fill the magic 90 mins quota, which is a real shame, cause the movie really had potential.
Black Panther (2018)
Mediocre at best
Given the hype that surrounds this movie I wasn't surprised to see it's just a mediocre flic at best.
What's more shocking is the no bad review crusade, really? I'm glad I live in a country in which I'm not afraid to voice my opinion, be it bad or good.
This movies is loaded to the brim with every trope of the genre, up to the point it feels ridiculous.
If the movie would have steered away from this leftist and PC insanity, and tried to stay faithfull to the source material it would have made a good movie.
But what it does is that it tries to be all things and all people, while pleasing none.
As a final note to the delusional people, this isn't the first black superhero movie: Blade trilogy, Luke Cage, Nick Fury etc.
