Modus (2015)
Too "American"
This doesn't meet the higher standards I'm used to in watching Scandinavian shows (The Bridge, The Killing, Borgen, etc.). Frankly, it comes across as a a more lazy American version. Too bad.
The Great Hack (2019)
Spinning spin
Ironically, my offer of an opinion on a movie will inevitably mean there's a strong likelihood that it is being data-mined (along with any other tentacles to my online data). Overall, I'd say this is an important film to watch for the topic. But I had serious problems with the movie continuing in the same fake news, propaganda, psyops, it claims to expose. There was entirely way too much time spent on Brittany Kaiser's revisionist history. And there's some self-serving (perhaps always near the surface) focus on those investigating and reporting. I think overall, the documentary was a bit heavy-handed with its messaging that ignored the very reasons why these things happen in the first place. Money, money, money. Solid film, but not a home run.
First Kill (2017)
Just don't.
I like Bruce Willis and until recently didn't realize the full volume of is work -- both very entertaining and not. Unfortunately, he was the best part of the film and that's not saying much. Christensen needs to find another line of work; he can't act his way out of a paper bag. I recognized him from other so-so roles and looked up other movies. Sadly, he doesn't seem to have improved. The generic wife, the smarter-than-his-parents kid, the caricaturization of a "mountain woman" the aunt -- all could've been played by muppets more believably. In fact, a muppet/comedy version of this film would have to be a major improvement over this.
