The Life of David Gale (2003)
Watch it.
This film is hugely underrated and absolutely astounding. The build up to the climax causes the heart to race while the conclusion induces speechlessness and a desire for retrospection.
It is not light entertainment. It is, however, a thought provoking, character driven, intellectual film that demands an attentive, open-minded audience willing to explore the ideas expressed. The script is ironclad gold and the performances are gripping, particularly that of Kevin Spacey.
It is pertinent for you to know that I am writing this review as a Conservative (Republican to you Americans) in favour of the death penalty. Personal politics should not darken your opinion of the film; do not enter into the viewing with an already closed mind. Suspend your beliefs for a couple of hours and engage intelligently with the material.
