Fight Club (1999)
Different and unique!!!
David Fincher's Fight Club is one of the coolest films I have seen. It is fast-paced, well directed, well written and well acted. The pace of the movie is excellent. The average movie-goer may not understand it.
What people don't see is the themes this film deals with. It deals with insomnia and the insanity of the protagonist. It is anti- society, anti- consumerism, anti- corporate companies and anti- today's lifestyle. I think The Narrator suffers from insomnia because he has to work a lot, something which is quite common these days. He is fed up of his lifestyle. He finds peace by visiting cancer groups. I think he is a bit like Travis Bickle: lonely, insomniac and insane. And just like Bickle, he becomes violent. I think it should be seen as a satiric thriller. That way it will be appreciated and understood better. Brad Pitt is excellent as Tyler Durden. I think his biggest strength is his ability to bring any character to life. He has done that in many of his films. Edward Norton also did very well and so did Helena Bonham Carter. The editing us top notch. The writing is excellent. Watch it. Strongly recommended. (9/10)
The Social Network (2010)
David Fincher does it again!!!
OK so we have a movie on face book, or should I say, on how face book was found. Initially I had no interest in it at all but later when I read some reviews I thought I should watch it. Needless to say, much of the story is made up. If you want to know the made up parts of the movie read the trivia section as I don't want to give any spoilers. The writing is brilliant, especially the dialogs. The movie moves at a good pace. The characters are great: silly, spontaneous, talented twenty-something year olds. David Fincher's direction is excellent. He is known for his thrillers and serial killer movies but he has done a stupendous job here in a completely different genre. There is never a dull moment. The score is fantastic. Cinematography and editing are top notch too. The performances are superb. Jesse Eisenberg gets into the skin of the character and proves his brilliance as an actor. Andrew Garfield is also great as his best friend. You do feel bad for him at the end of the movie. Justin Timberlake comes as a surprise package. He is brilliant as the antagonist. The others are also good. Armie Hammer also did a good job. Watch it!!!! (9/10)
Heat (1995)
great movie!!!
HEAT(1995) is one the best crime movies ever made. It stars two of the greatest actors in the world: Al Pacino and Robert Deniro. It also stars some good character actors like Val Kilmer, Hank Azaria, Danny Trejo and Jon Voight. The movie is set in LA and is about the lives of detective Vincent Hanna( Pacino) and thief Neil Mcauley (Deniro). It's not a typical fast- paced cat-and-mouse thriller. It spends time in developing characters. It tells you about the problems in the characters' lives. The performances are excellent. Everyone has done a terrific job. The best scene of the movie is the coffee shop scene where Hanna and Mcauley come face to face. The shootout scene was brilliantly executed. Michael Mann's writing and direction are superb. There are some unforgettable lines in this movie like : "Great ass" and "Brother, you are going down". WATCH IT. (9/10)
Shor in the City (2010)
Different!!!
Shor in the city is directed by US based Indian filmmakers Krishna DK ans Raj Nidhimoru, who also directed 99. This film tells three stories, all interconnected in some way about people from different sections of society.
It doesn't have too many known faces, but all the actors have done a great job. Tusshar Kapoor comes as a surprise package and delivers a memorable performance. Direction and writing are brilliant. Cinematography is good. The city of Mumbai is well captured. The screenplay is taut. I recommend this film to everyone because it is different, fast paced and also has some humor. 8/10
Goodfellas (1990)
A masterpiece
Goodfellas is one of Martin Scorsese's best works. Based on a true story, it is about the rise and fall of Henry Hill( Ray Liotta), Jimmy Conway( Robert Deniro) and Tommy DeVito( Joe Pesci). It is fast paced, stylish and full of memorable scenes.
Ray Liotta, Joe Pesci and Loraine Bracco give excellent performances. Pesci steals the show as the violent gangster. Robert Deniro also plays his part well.
Direction is superb and so is the writing.
This is definitely the best gangster movie after THe Godfather and The Godfather part 2.
Watch it. Strongly recommended (9/10)
