Ratu ilmu hitam (2019)
Brutal Paranormal Movie
A family and other people are invited back to the orphanage they were in when they were younger but past secrets arise when sinister events unfold.
You mostly care for the characters. I couldn't believe the things the characters had to endure because in most paranormal movies, the characters don't really get hurt.
Gory and brutal but the story was lacking in my opinion.
Fright Night (1985)
If you're looking for the Bible of Vampires...
Here it is!
If you're tired of emotional "cute" vampires, watch this!
If you want cool effects, watch this!
And if you love characters who don't make dumb decisions in horror movies... Well you get where I'm going with this.
Captivating, likeable performances by everyone (though am I the only one who hates Evil Ed)?, just the perfect amount of humor sprinkled in here and there, and cool make up / special effects towards the end of the movie.
Tom Holland blends practically most genres into this 1 movie which I'm sure is one of the many reasons why people love this movie, as well that the writing is very quotable.
If you watch this movie... then"you're so cool, Brewster!"
Mayhem (2017)
I tried liking it
So, let me just say that I had kinda high expectations with this movie because of its well received reaction by audiences and I just love Samara Weaving.
This movie was a huge melting pot of genres but it just wasn't funny to me nor was it horrifying. It really only had bloody bodies flying around and forgettable fight sequences. I think my problem was that the plot didn't interest me.
I really tried liking it, but I'm glad most others enjoyed it.
April Fool's Day (1986)
Watch it without knowing anything
April Fools Day is about a group of college friends being invited to their friend's mansion for the weekend when some friends start to go missing. There, that's all you need to know.
Wow, I love a horror movie that showcases great chemistry among the cast. It really makes a horror movie stronger and makes ya root for the characters to live.
Now, I was pretty disappointed that there wasn't much onscreen kills but stick with it cuz this is a really fun horror movie that doesn't take itself seriously.
Ils (2006)
Tense!!!
I don't want to overhype this movie, but my body honestly stayed tense and frigid throughout this whole movie!
Sure, this movie doesn't have a whole lot going for it, but my gosh it sure does know how to scare people with the eerie sounds and not knowing where the attackers are at any moment.
In my opinion, this is much better than The Strangers with characters who don't really make dumb decisions.
Prom Night (1980)
More than just a disco party
This may have the best dance sequence in any horror slasher movie, but this may not be a good horror movie to most.
The film opens up with a tragedy amongst kids and fast forwards 6 six years to them getting ready for a prom.
The movie is absolutely fantastic giving us the personalities of each character. I loved the chemistry between Jaimee Lee Curtis and her onscreen brother. The writing/acting also gives life to the side characters too which was great considering the minimal characterization in most slashers. We also get to see Jaimee Lee Curtis disco dance for about 3 min!
Now to the big negative: I kinda did forget I was watching a horror movie. The first onscreen kill doesn't happen until literally 1 hr into the movie... Yikes. There really isn't any special gore, so if you want a gore fest, you'll be severely disappointed.
All in all, I had a fun time with this movie, dance sequence and all!
Clueless (1995)
Brittany Murphy ruled!
This movie is a staple teen 90s movie. It doesn't really have a strong plot, but you just go along for the laughs and silly characters.
Brittany Murphy made me laugh more than all of the other characters combined. Alicia was great too, she reminded me of the iconic Buffy Summers.
One of the biggest things I wasn't a fan of was the rushed ending. Seemed like close to the 3rd act, a couple of characters made a 180 in personalities, but then by the end all was well and returned to normal. Also I wasn't really a fan of the romance between 2 characters in the end, I just didn't understand that dynamic.
But this movie made me laugh a few times and turned my focus off my real life.
Wishmaster (1997)
Your average 90s B movie...but better
I don't like wasting my time on horror B movies but this one was filled with interesting gore sequences that kept me intrigued, unlike most slashers. Yeah the writing is kinda cheesy, and for some reason the main actress (Tammy Lauren) bothered me a bit (probably cuz she's a beautiful blonde who I usually attribute those actresses to be bad actors, sorry!) but I'll admit her acting was pretty decent. And man Andrew Divoff was fantastic as the djinn; his voice gives me the chills.
The directing is typical of a bad, cheesy B movie but stick around for the bloody, Clive Barker inspired gore effects.
Night of the Demons (1988)
This house isn't haunted, it's possessed!
This movie is so 80s and kinda cheesy but that makes it all the fun! The movie starts off with a pretty cool animated intro. It's Halloween night and a group of teens are invited to a Halloween party at an old mansion which is purported to be haunted (ahem possessed) and chaos ensues.
The soundtrack is great if you like 80s rock. And the makeup is not bad but I appreciated that they were practical. I wish there was more character development for a few of the characters but you get enough of what their personality is. Also, comedy is sprinkled in it which I liked.
All in all, if you want to watch an underrated horror movie, go for this one!
Dog Pound (2010)
Leaves you crying and screaming
First off, go watch this movie right now! Warning: it can be hard to watch
This film was such a different film that I've ever seen. With its brutality and never ending revenge, it grips you. When angel and Davis died, my heart sank because I sympathized with them.
This film has such AMAZING performances by all the actors and the characters you either sympathize with or not. There will be characters in this movie that you just hope the hero will retaliate.
I haven't seen Scum yet, but I definitely will
I RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE!!!
