Monarch: Legacy of Monsters: Will the Real May Please Stand Up? (2023)
CW Writing at its Best
So it's been glaringly obvious as these episodes have progressed that the writers decided to Kentaro as a weak cuck. The nerve to have Mae, his estranged girlfriend (or whatever), making a moving on his step-sister, who is no angel herself as she's been initiating herself, just seems like this weird throuple that nobody asked for in a monster movie. This show has def ran off the rails, as it feels like Gen Z wrote this crap in a nod to polyamorous relationships. They had one job today do...write a good sci-if show, and instead we got Melrose Place with the occasional guest star-Godzilla. Luckily a few of these episodes are actually pretty good-when the main characters are running for their lives.
That '70s Show: Too Old to Trick or Treat, Too Young to Die (2000)
Hitchcockian Deja Vu
The episode has some great Hitchcock call backs like Rear Window when Fez is spying on his neighbor after essentially being wheel-chair bound due to falling off the roof. Then the Birds moments with Kitty was priceless, along with the Vertigo-like scenes with Eric and Donna. Lastly the Psycho scene was pretty funny and enjoyable with Laurie and Kelso. I feel sorry for anyone that hasn't seen these movies, becuz the hilarity of these moments in this episode is so much funnier recalling the original material from the movies. This was a great episode that definitely could be considered a deep cut for those that love the classics.
Resident Evil (2022)
Teenage Angst meets Zombie Apocalypse.
The kids make the first episode almost unwatchable. Jade is annoying as hell. Billie is redeemable because she has better acting chops and is written better. The angry crappy kid towards their overworked parent is just a trope that needs to die in shows-especially one based on a dystopian world. I might watch one more to see if the highschool CW vibe fades.
Superman & Lois: The Inverse Method (2022)
Side Eye At Allison Mack
Totally felt like the cult indoctrination part of this episode was a tale of woe for those naive enough to fall for a motivational speaker with an agenda.
Another Life: D-Day (2021)
Casting and Story - The downfall of this show
The cast is not likable, to the point where most of them are annoying constantly, and that's likely attributed to terrible dialogue writing. Each episode spends more time on showing soap opera deceitful characters than being a compelling episode of storytelling. This is sci-if at its worst.
The Expanse: Hard Vacuum (2021)
Naomi Shines
The season has been way different from the norm because the crew is not together, and on individual paths of inner enlightenment. This episode was very Naomi-centric, but it's by far her best work of showing an emotional range and determination combined with self-doubt, perseverance and ingenuity. I loved this episode...and it was her Ripley moment minus monsters.
The Rookie: Consequences (2021)
Wokeness has Entered the Building
Whelp, Nolan's attorney just played the if you were black hand. I expect this season to further play the cat and mouse game of good cop vs bad cop with internal affairs playing the part of real world public...unless the head guy is dirty too. 🤷♂️
Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (2020)
Authentic
The moment I started hearing Sigur Ros songs, I was in...and not just one song-they really crushed it with the soundtrack and vibe of Iceland.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Out of the Past (2020)
That original Noir vibe
Great name for the episode that harkens back to the original movie feel with Robert Mitchum and Jane Greer.
Star Trek: Picard: Et in Arcadia Ego, Part 2 (2020)
Sometimes throwing in the kitchen sink leaves you asking why?
Such a great ending to a wonderful season, but the moment with Rafi and Seven-why? You gave zero indication and zero time on there being an attraction as opposed to developing the relationship with Jurati and Rios. It was almost like a, hey let me throw in some LGBTQ on this in this universe to please everyone. It's obviously fine that 7 dating both sexes-but save it for season two, don't waste it in a trifling moment as the credits begin to roll to the sound of music.
Jessica Jones: A.K.A. Everything (2019)
Not Worth a DVD Release
There's something to be said why only Season 1 was released on Blu-ray. The show just continued to get worse after that, and this season was just boring and the writers literally made you hate Malcom and Patsy even worse than I already did; and as for Jessica-they just made dislike her hypocritical BS. Worth the watch ONCE.
Love, Death & Robots (2019)
Heavy Metal Applauds
Been waiting this mature style of japanimatiion like films forever to hit the US...this series is a homerun with a edge only also found in Black Mirror and Phillip Dick's series.
The Walking Dead: Bounty (2019)
Alpha is Scary
This is a perfect adaptation of the comic villain Alpha-her presence, with no action whatsoever commands attention. She'd totally take Negan's bat. (I love this actor)
The Gifted: Monsters (2019)
This Feels Like 1991 All Over Again
This show had that nice fresh Bronze era feel to it first season with a touch of the modern era (with the Purifiers and extinct X-men, but then this season took a nose dive and just continues to get more Dawson's Creek every week.
They Shall Not Grow Old (2018)
Home for a Veteran - A Looking Glass for a Civilian
I saw this today on my local city - felt incredibly lucky since the other viewing place was 50 miles away. Stay for the 30 min Peter Jackson discussion after credits roll-it's as enjoying as the documentary and revealing of the passion and reason Jackson took on the project.
Glass (2019)
A Strict Marvel Comic Book Fans Dirty Secret
This last movie of the trilogy cements the vibe of pages of Icon or Image comics brought to the silver screen...less of a Marvel movie, more grounded in reality with a touch of science and biology; and a whole lot of self-belief-if you believe you have powers, you can make it so.
Star Wars Resistance (2018)
Disney Can't Get Star Wars Right - So Stop Until You Can
This show may be for kids, but it suffers in natural comparison to Rebels.
Star Trek Continues (2013)
Right Where TOS Left Off
These 11 episodes were amazing, and to think each episode was made over a span of years. The plots were exactly from the TOS wheelhouse and definitely identify even with today's societal woes; and I really liked their ability to weave the moral to the story tales, as was common with the TOS. Loved it-DVD, yes please!
Black Mirror: Bandersnatch (2018)
BAITANDSWITCH
So brilliant, you need a scribe to keep track of choices you made, and then watch again to take different paths-great group watch interactive TV instead of playing Taboo.
Travelers: Trevor (2018)
Saving Grace
Thus episode was all about Trevor, but it's a head-fake...it's really about Grace and her love of French Fries, metaphorically speaking. 😏
Bumblebee (2018)
Honarary Breakfast Club Member
This movie has so much heart. Perfect mix of nostalgic 80s era songs, references and vibe; and a softer feel of a relationship between B and his new companion. If only the makers of Solo understood this is how you properly hook your audience into caring about the bond of machine and human, not that mess with L3 and Lando.
