Circumstance (2011)
Moving & Heartfelt
After watching Circumstance I have mixed feelings about this movie. I did like the portrayal of this middle class Iranian family. The love that the parents had for their children was very apparent. And also the son's and daughter's love for their parents. I think the film should have been a little longer to show how the son became a little fanatic about his faith. I could not see why he did.
I feel that Shireen seemed to fall in love with Mehran when he showed his vulnerable side to her and how much he love her. I think she grew out of her homosexual tendencies.
What I didn't like was the portrayal of anyone who was religious as fanatic. I'm sure there are Muslim fanatic in Iran just as thee are Christian fanatic in the USA. But there is nothing wrong with believing in God.
I don't want to see Morality Police here in the US like was shown in the movie, but I do wish we had more of a moralistic people here in the West. This may sound very strange but in the state of California the law prohibits licensed mental health professionals from offering therapies aimed at making gay and lesbian teenagers straight. These are young people who want the treatment.
Drunk in Public (2012)
Drunk In Public
This film is tragic and a little funny at times. The sad part is to watch this young, handsome, and very likable guy spiral into oblivion. He looks like a cross between Jeff Brides as The Dude in The Big Lebowski and Nicolas Cage as Ben Sanderson in Leaving Las Vegas.
What I saw as funny was how Mark would look right in the camera after having maybe 2 days of sobriety and say "I am done bro. I'm never going to drink again." And before the sun goes down he's arrested for being drunk in public.
My prayers to him and people like him.

Pickpocket (1959)
Pickkpocket
I picked this DVD up from my local library. What caught my eye was that it was on of 'The Criterion Collection'. I did like the movie. Jeanne (Marika Green) was very beautiful. This movie was very emotional. I felt sad about the story and wished the main actor Michel (Martin LaSalle) would change his pickpocketing ways.
After watching the Special Edition Features I have a better idea why this is such a great movie. The director Robert Bresson is very unique. If anyone wants to see another movie on pickpockets there is one called "Harry in your Pocket" 1973 with James Coburn. It is amazing that pickpockets has it's own profession. I will watch my wallet in airports and walking downtown.
