Who Is Erin Carter? (2023)
Worth a viewing.
All in all the series was good to watch, the acting was above expectation.
The story once you suspended your belief was entertaining.
There was plenty of action plus great location shots.
The only possible reservation I had was that the last episode went fully OTT.,the heroine became almost an indestructible super-hero. She took on an army of bad guys and despite being shot, beaten and bruised she won the day.
But that is nit picking, if you want a fast moving uncomplicated story, this could be for you.
I'm hoping for a further series as the last episode hinted at a return to the heroines former undercover life .
Red Eye (2024)
Watchable series.
Despite quite a few low marked reviews,I found the series entertaining.
The actors played their parts well and though one or two scenes were a bit far fetched, all in all it was a competent achievement.
Some of the plot was a bit predictable, but watch enough tv shows and you will find most have utilised previous shows efforts.
The aeroplane scenes were well done giving tension to the storyline.
Some of the points that I wondered about, were would a London to China flight have only two cockpit crew with the Captain constantly leaving the'secure area' .
Also if I was flying to China could I please have a four engined plane please?
All in all a watchable drama.
3 Body Problem (2024)
Great visuals.
I would give it 10 stars for the visuals and actors, but for me the storyline was somewhat chaotic and hard to follow.
Perhaps the viewer is required to read the book first.
The depiction of the red guard era in China was stunning as was the creation of the Chinese transmitting station.
The story has obviously much more to tell, apparently it is hoped that a second series will be shown in 2026.
This is something that hasn't been confirmed.
The time between the series presents its own issues in whether or not there is enough viewer interest to warrant this.
I would watch a second series and perhaps I could concentrate more on the storyline and less on the stunning visuals.
Coma (2024)
Good actors but bad acting?
I was looking forwards to viewing this as I liked the three main leads.
However a poor script ;often too repetitive gave the series a lack of drive.
The police were once again portrayed as inadequate buffoons.
The young actor who played the lout showed only a characture of what was a pivotal role ,though again this was the script rather than the actor.
The story could have been told in one episode
My version was that Simon should have told Paul that it was his(Simon's) boss who hit the boy.
Then when Paul had dealt with this person,Simon could have anonymously phoned the police with details of the offence. Paul would be arrested and locked up and Simon was off the hook having only to deal with junior psycho.
Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2024)
Gave up.
I was looking forwards to this series. Sadly it failed to hold my interest beyond part way through episode 2.
The cast were somewhat unengaging and had no chemistry.
As I mentioned I couldn't watch beyond episode 2 so my apologies if the magic suddenly happened in the later shows.
A lot of Amazon TV content seems to have the same 'throw money at it' reasoning behind the production. Perhaps more thought should be used in the choice of actors and also a better script would have held my attention for longer.
Let's hope that Amazon learn that all that glisters is not gold.
There is huge investment in Amazon's production, but somehow they very often fail to impress.
Your Honor (2020)
Dreary dark dismal.
This series went downhill from episode one with many annoying characters and an overblown plot.
The Baxter clan would fit into any future Adams Family movies.
I couldn't decide whether it was the writing or the acting that caused the annoyance.
Bryan Cranston is usually a superb actor but I feel he was misguided to lend his talents to this.
I very nearly ditched the series at the end of the first episode but foolishly carried onto the end.
Is it the fact that the more streaming services that appear, that the standards go downhill?
Or am I just too picky with my hopes for entertainment.
Let's hope that the next offering will impress more than this waste of talent.
Yellowstone (2018)
Good Series
I am enjoying the Yellowstone saga, currently starting series 5 after watching the 1883 and 1923 series.
Though some of the performances are a tad OTT ,I still find the episodes entertaining.
The actress who plays Beth is very good( though I think UK viewers might think they're watching an early incarnation of Patsy from Absolutely fab.)
Cole Hauser is also very good in his role though I thing makeup has overdone the hair dye.
Luke Grimes look of angst makes me think his haemorrhoids aren't relishing another ride on horseback.
The supporting cast are also excellent and Kevin Costner is well Kevin Costner!
OTT entertainment.
1883 (2021)
A great series!
This western series made for exceptional viewing, all the cast(bar one) carried the story along at a cracking pace.
Each episode showed the hardship and brutality of the American west in the late 19th century. One of my favourite actors Sam Elliott was born to play the part of the Wagon master. The other actors also excelled with Faith Hill and husband Tim McGraw giving standout performances. I also thought Lamonica Garrett was also excellent.
The only downside(for my English ears) was Isabel May's narration and indeed character;I struggled to understand most of her dialogue due to the presumably adopted accent,I actually looked for subtitles atone point.
Being new to the Dutton saga I decided to watch the three series in chronological order and have now begun 1923 and oh boy Isabel is at it again with a new narration. Hopefully I will still enjoy this series as much as 1883.
Where Eagles Dare (1968)
Dated action film.
I last saw this movie as a teenager,as a fan of Alistair McLean books and Eastwood movies, I enjoyed the cinema version.
I recently watched it again on tv and how dated it has become
The British actors were a who's who of yesteryears tv 'stars'. All appeared around 20 or 30 years older than the characters they portrayed.
Burton looked ' tired and emotional' and Mary Ure was weighed down by her eyelashes!
Even Clint Eastwood looked like he was slightly embarrassed by the proceedings wishing to be elsewhere.
They say that you should never revisit the past and I guess that goes for old movies too.
Jack Ryan (2018)
Season 3 improvement
Series three was an improvement on the previous series.
Some good acting and intricate plotting was marred(for me) by the often unintelligible dialogue due to the character's accents, both real and assumed.
I am a fan of James Cosmo but felt he used a heavy brush for his characters accent.
But fair play to him ,at least he didn't go down the Sean Connery route with an all encompassing Scottish brogue.
All in all it was an enjoyable outing for Jack Ryan. I look forward to future episodes in series four which is hopefully going to be made in the not too distant future.
Well done to all concerned.
Most Dangerous Game (2020)
Contrived mishmash.
Was this meant to be a black comedy?
I watched it in the 'movie format' and not the episodes version.
It was as nutty as one of my old Granny's
fruit cakes.
What Christoph Waltz was doing when he signed up I don't know....
Best left unwatched.
The Terminal List (2022)
Splendid entertainment.
This series was an unexpected pleasure to watch, having almost given up on some of Amazon's series,I found this was almost perfect.
Good acting throughout and a star turn from Chris Pratt helped move the storyline at a rapid pace.
More of this please!
Cosmos (2019)
In its own way....
In its own way this movie is quite the dullest waste of time that I have seen.
Filmed in that unappealing low budget way that seeks to chic.
Not very good.
Eliminators (2016)
Good action scenes if somewhat OTT.
A perfectly watchable action film with a limited budget.
The actors do there jobs ,although the action scenes are marred by the apparent ease in which the hero absorbs numerous beatings to win the day.
Shadow in the Cloud (2020)
Absolute drivel!
This was a very poor film. I've seldom seen any that compare. Pointless story and clueless acting,of the Neighbours and Home and Away standard.
Would have made a good spoof.
Please avoid.
The Holiday (2021)
Long and weary road.
What a load of overblown bombastic tosh!
The story as such could have been told in one episode.
Coupled with the awkward performances and the overly dramatic directing,it was a pain to behold.
As for showing Malta/Gozo the production might as well have been filmed in a quarry in less than sunny Wales.
Left Behind (2014)
Dire!
As my old Grandmother would have said "Nutty as a fruitcake". Poor acting balanced by a dire script.
Nicholas Cage is a bad actor his only saving grace was being surrounded by actors of an even lower calibre.
Avoid!
Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard (2021)
Salma's show
A funny movie. The cast are excellent with Salma "potty mouthing" her way to stealing the film. Samuel L Jackson and Morgan Freeman are great.
All in all a great watch.
Wrath of Man (2021)
Good movie.
I found the movie enjoyable ;with good action scenes .Jason Statham does what Jason Statham is good at.
Not too happy with the time switching of the storyline but that's just me.
I wish Scott Eastwood could get away from his famous father's mannerisms ,for me the younger Eastwood jars any storyline he appears in with the almost caricature imitation of Clint's expressions.
Otherwise a good movie.
The Wheel of Time (2021)
Seems a lot of Trollocs.
Early days ; with only 2 episodes viewed but that's probably enough.
Poor acting and poor dialogue.
A Lord of the Rings wannabe!
I will be avoiding further episodes, but perhaps it's aimed at a younger audience.
Hotel Mumbai (2018)
Excellent movie.
An excellent movie depicting the real life tragedy of the terrorise attacks in Mumbai.
The cast are excellent in this dramatic movie and shows how everyday people can perform selfless acts to save others.
Tenet (2020)
Glossy mishmash.
Well even after reading several 'explanations',I still found it unbearably muddled with a muted soundtrack during conversations.
Kenneth Branagh should avoid attempting Russian accents unless subtitles are used.
Elizabeth Debicki was positively depressing.
All in all not an easy watch.
Assault on VA-33 (2021)
Poor acting worse stunts.
Poor acting worse stunts.
Dire!
Michael Jai White wasted.
Close Range (2015)
Scott deserves better.
The film is an almost parody of the shoot em up genre. Towards the end there is even a supposedly tense 'Will he won't he go for the gun scene, together with suitable discordant music.
Scott deserves better.
Robin Hood (2018)
Robin Hood for the Assassin's Creed generation.
Mad bad but somehow watchable. You can see the budget in the effects, but the script is a little lacking.
