Beef (2023)
I am shook...
Watched on a whim and was richly rewarded. I had kept seeing this in the feed but never read what it was about assuming it was going to be about the meat industry or a butcher or something like that. Bless my whim for where it lead me. I had no idea where this was going but I was immediately locked in. Quick binge with so much going on, so much packed into 30 minutes. Amazing how two people can destroy everything dear to themselves by showing to lack of self control. From momentary lack to full-on premeditation. Totally shocking behavior.
I laughed and cried. I grew incredulous and angry. Self-controlled anger-no monitors were injured by errant shoes flying through the air. Really, my emotions were all over the place. I highly recommend this series. This is supposed to be a limited series, and as the ending was perfect as it is, I am totally okay with that.
The Jurassic Games (2018)
Enjoyable
I liked this movie, it had some interesting happenings. Nothing new but still entertaining. Of course, I went in expecting it to be some ripped-off hybrid of Running Man and Jurassic Park, and I was not wrong! 👍🏻
The Guilty (2021)
Jake, no! What were you thinking?!
Good story with an interesting plot twist. I would have rated it higher except for Jake's (Joe) wretched performance.
Flora (2017)
Not your usual romp through the forest
Some monsters are big and some monsters are small-very, very small-and those can be the most frightening of all. Movie kept me nicely tense worrying about who was getting it next and how. Good acting! Beautiful scenes and well-done costumes and effects make-up with enough period artifacts scattered about to help me transcend my living room. However, some scenes and scene transitions were confusing, some of the characters were not well defined, and rather detracted from an otherwise worthy effort.
Jurassic Galaxy (2018)
Pitch Black done on a very low budget
Movie has so many similarities to Pitch Black that we gonna watch it again and make it into a drinking game! The camera effects are low key but effective, esp. when one of the characters looks down while hanging off a cliff. The acting is for the most part, mediocre, the storyline recycled (drink!), the CGI meh, but kudos on character development.
Kill Switch (2017)
Great idea for a movie
Majority of the movie looked like a FPS video game and was really cool. Especially how the FPS's eyes and ears reacted--wow! The general plot line of the movie was interestingly different. I liked this movie for these reasons but I was also very confused at times. It was like I was the one being concussed repeatedly instead of the FPS, but maybe that is what the director intended.
AJ and the Queen (2020)
As perfect as RuPaul is flawless
A binge feast! Casting is perfect. Especially comically delightful were Tia Carrere as Lady Danger, Michael Leon-Wooley as Louis, and Izzy G as AJ. AJ does cuss and throw tizzies but she was practically raising herself with no real adult guidance until she stole her way into The Queen's life. Izzy G did a great job of bringing AJ to life and holding her own in the scenes she shared with the flawless RuPaul as The Queen.
Doom: Annihilation (2019)
The ending is freakin' A+++
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It is kind of a mess in places--wha? were those zombies? demon zombies?--but the production values are high enough to make it work. The sets and effects were awesome, like when they are landing on Phobos with Mars hanging in the background or when the BFG fires. The story kept my attention and had me pulling for some characters to survive until the very end which got me all amped up and running around my living room in a fit of adrenaline-induced anxiety.
Medical Police (2020)
Has its moments
Suspend judgement until you see it. I found it amusing, even funny sometimes. Just do not go into it expecting the comedically satirical magic of "Airplane", "The Naked Gun", or "Police Academy" and you will not be disappointed.
Another Life (2019)
Entertaining. Different.
Somehow this works: a bunch of seemingly expendable twenty-somethings and their sleep-suspended replacements, a pouty AI, and their neurotic captain warp their way across the cosmos to possibly save Earth from aliens who have delivered us a giant crystal antenna. Are they friend or foe?
This answer may not be as entertaining as their journey, fighting alien threats and themselves en route.
