Fallout (2024)
Starts ok, but gets better
In the first episodes the main characters didn't do it for me, but rather the visuals and the setting/ambient is what kept me watching. It was my "1 episode before sleep" series. They really nailed down the visuals and the atmosphere, I cannot stress this enough, it was awesome to see the game portrayed so well in live action.
As things progress, you start to find the characters a little more interesting, especially the ghoul, who was already better than the 2 main characters from the start. As story moves along, I start caring a little more about the 2 main characters, but it isn't until the last episode of s01 that I feel more connected to them. Speaking of which, that last episode was awesome, it alone is what earned the rating a bump from a 7 to 8.
If you played the games, it's a no brainer, you should watch it. If you haven't, give it a try and maybe try to stick with it even if episode 1 doesn't help, it slowly improves and reaches its finest at the season finale.
Sisu (2022)
Incredibly Stupid Movie
There are good movies set around ww2, then there's this thing. To be honest, I find that using world war for this type of movie is disrespectful. This tries to create some sort of Finnish John Wick, setting it during ww2, except that ww2 was not a joke and this movie is so absurd it's almost a parody. Sure, there are absurd action movies like John Wick, but that one is actually enjoyable, this one is much more absurd and disrespectful. It shouldn't have been made around ww2 if it was meant to be such a silly movie. I find it that a terrible setting was used to exploit cheap action and plot. It's still watchable, but it's not a good movie and the level of absurdity continues to escalate until the end, which makes it harder for you to go on. I completed watching, but regret doing so.
Athena (2022)
Meh, could have been better, fell short
I'll keep it short.
What's Good:
- Pace
- Camerawork
- Visuals
- Sense of chaos
What's Bad:
- Coherence
- Logic
- Cliches
It starts well, it's fast paced and full of action. The camera work following you through nonstop feels good, walks you around nicely. However, around middle of the movie there is a turn of events that doesn't make much sense. Someone changes its mind way too quick about something, losing total coherence with the act, which seems to be completely forced just as means to justify some sort of cliche meaningful reflection-- there isn't one. The movie would have been better off if it didn't go that route and had a more logical ending.
Arctic (2018)
Good setting, but insults your intelligence
The setting, cinematography and acting are very good. The beginning of the movie is also pretty good, it makes sense and you feel like there has been some pretty clever decision making by our protagonist-- he seems to be a pretty smart guy up until that moment. Then, something happens and it goes downhill from there.
***SPOILERS START HERE***
Once the helicopter crashes, he takes the wounded woman into his plane. Ok, so far, so good. However, WHY ON EARTH does he proceed to trail to a place that MIGHT have a base, almost immediately, carrying a wounded woman on a dogsled? I mean, after a crash, a search party usually follows and goes on for at least a week! But hey, let's not wait to see if a search party comes in this awesome warm plane with bed, food and HUGE SOS SIGN. Instead, let's try to hike for several days with a nearly unconscious woman? Yeah, that sure makes a lot of sense.
Even if he didn't want to wait for a couple weeks, he could have just freaking trekked to the location lightweight much faster and then had help sent her way (in the warm ass plane, instead of putting her through freezing temperatures). And that's just the tip of the iceberg, there's so many things that don't make sense in this movie. I'm not going to even list them all here, but some of them are too insulting! Like for example, when seeing a rescue helicopter, why not use your FLARE and signal them for a while until they see you? No, let's just get out of their sight and move down the hill to waste an incredible amount of precious time pushing up an unconscious woman up the hill again, to THEN LIGHT UP THE FLARE. But hey, that's not good enough, how about we BURN DOWN our *RED* Jacket and risk hypothermia in case they don't see us? Well, that's just too stupid.
There's so many things that offend our intelligence. Like the bottle of precious desinfectant that he is literally doing little marking to make sure he saves it as much as possible. Why the heck does he pour it directly on the woman and leaves it running outside of the needed area? Why not putting it in a cloth and applying? At least make a contention area to make sure it doesn't get wasted! There's just so much waste of precious resources that make no sense. Especially considering the start of the movie that gave us the impression that we were dealing with a clever fellow that made a nice setup for himself. It doesn't make sense. It's irritating.
I like to watch survival films, sometimes I learn something from them, but this one just made me feel more stupid.
Love Stinks (1999)
Myself and my wife thought this movie was hilarious
Really, the beginning is a bit boring, but when the Chelsea starts freaking out, it just becomes hilarious and very entertaining. Maybe a lot of people think it's inadequate to make fun of marriage or they're stereotyping the women or whatnot, but that's just stupid, this is a comedy-- it's not supposed to be politically correct! My wife said she even found some similarities with the 'psychoness' of Chelsea and still laughed hard at the movie. I guess it's just how comfortable you are with yourself to enjoy it.
Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe (2022)
It's ok
As a fan of the original series, I'm happy this was made, but it's more of a nostalgic thing. Christmas or Halloween specials were the better ones, the Do america movie was also decent and had a good soundtrack at least. Speaking of it, a lot of this movie just reminds of Do america... chasing them thinking they're smart, misinterpretation of going to score... And overall it feels a bit toned down. It isn't bad, certainly worth a watch, but overall not on the same level as the original, more on par with the 2011 revival.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Movie for kids
Watched 40 minutes of it, couldn't watch the rest. I guess if you're taking your kids to the movie its alright, but for me, as a grown adult, I found it too silly.
1883 (2021)
Could have been a good show, but they decided to go with a chick flick
The main problem with this show is the main character, other than that, the show is actually pretty good. If we cut her out of the show and her stupid reflections, it would probably be an 8/10.
Good:
- Production Quality
- Interesting Characters-- unfortunately, the MAIN character, is not
- The challenges faced during the trail are quite interesting (that alongside with Thomas, "Captain" and "Dad" are basically what kept me watching the show).
Bad:
- Story centered around main Character Elsa. Her reflections/narrative are awful, they slow down the pace of the show and basically drags down everything. It gets so annoying to the point I often found myself standing up and leaving the TV while they're happening. Unfortunately, this happens too often. It almost made me quit the show.
- It seems like they decided to have the show directed towards things that would make sense to teenage girls, but the funny thing is, I don't think this is the setting they would be much interested in.
- Some events are very unrealistic.
Bimilui Soop (2017)
First Season = Perfect! Second Season = Incredibly Boring, stopped watching
The first season I recommend to everyone and anyone, it's amazing! Don't ever start by watching the second season, it's very boring, I stopped on the second episode of it and decided to skip through a bit the third and fourth, then finally gave up. It doesn't even feel like the same series, it's just too damn boring.
The Last of the Mohicans (1992)
More of a Romance than anything really
Beautiful scenery, interesting historical moment, good soundtrack, but the movie is a romance more than anything else... and I don't like romances. If you also don't, then probably skip this one.
Der Fall Collini (2019)
First 1h is boring, but the movie is good
I had given up on the movie the previous night around the 35minute mark, then today I sat down at the toilet and started reading reviews. I saw couple them saying the first 45min-1hour was boring, then it became better. After I got out of the toilet I became determined to watch the movie again and they were right: the film gets much better after 45min. My goal here is not to review, but just to give the advice that you should either be patient or just skip the boring part-- the movie is pretty decent.
Er ist wieder da (2015)
Too stupid, couldn't get past 16min
Gave this movie 16 minutes of my time, nope, not able to watch it. Didn't find any authentic reactions either and not going to stick around wasting my time. I'd say you can watch if you like really dumb comedies, I found it completely unfunny and idiotic.
L'immortale (2019)
Not good
I'm a fan of the series, but this movie is definitively not like it. It basically feels like it's been dragged out for way, way longer than it should. By the time you get to the ending, you'll be nearly asleep to even care about the only wit card the movie had to play with.
This could have been edited to an episode's length for sure, it feels like they were dragging it out just to use most of the recorded material. Editing (mostly cutting, lots of it) for sure could have helped the movie, but ultimately couldn't save it.
The childhood parts intersecting with the current story are annoying, and in my opinion, poorly executed. For sure they could have done a better job there, perhaps to start on the kid and then move to the adult with quick childhood flashbacks. The childhood story is 90% of the time not even interesting, heck, the actor chosen to portray Ciro doesn't even resemble him. Did they think putting an earring on the kid would make him look like Ciro?
Furthermore, I like the series because it's shocking, raw, violent and several of the things that happen resemble real life-- especially if you live in a violent country where drug related gang conflicts occur. This movie does not have anything that resembles reality, it's a poor work of fiction and it fails to explain some of the fictionized events that are important to the story.
Only watch if you are a fan of the series, and even then, might not be worth it. EP01 of Season 5 will probably give you what you need to know in a minute or two, most of this movie is pretty forgettable.
An Inspector Calls (2015)
Outstanding!
It's way more interesting than the plot says and it just keeps getting better. Not a review, just some words of encouragement: go and watch it!
It Chapter Two (2019)
Awful, not even close to the first movie
I liked the first movie, it was entertaining, well done and had some good jump scares. This second movie, however, is awful. I had to come in here and write my review after the movie to bring some justice-- don't trust the rating! The first movie is far, far better than this. As for the movie, it begins nicely, but after the first monsters in CGI appear it just goes downhill-- I honestly couldn't believe how ridiculous and bad the CGI was, seriously. It didn't seem to match the movie so far and sure as hell didn't blend with the live action on screen. It was forgivable though, especially with the joke soon afterwards.
Unfortunately, the movie does not get better. The majority of it is spent in scenes that are "individual to each character", which I will not go into detail to avoid spoilers. But they are boring, not scary and do not add to the plot. Hey, I thought we were going to see a group effort to get rid of Pennywise, right? Like in the first movie! But no, I guess the writers fell short and had to make up a stupid excuse to make movie with these stupid individual scenes. After several of those, it seemed like it was finally moving forward, but it just went on and on and on... I did my best effort to stay as much as I could because I wanted to see the conclusion, but after 2 hours of this nonsense, geez... what a test of patience! It has been a long time since I've walked out of a theater during a movie, but I couldn't stay for the end of this one. It came to a point where my patience was stretched enough to the point of no return. I walked out of the theater with a little over 2 hours in the movie. Avoid this one on the theater, see it later at home if you want, so you can skip, fast forward and go past the b/s.
Thoroughbreds (2017)
Very slow paced
I kept waiting for something to happen that would agitate the movie. It never happened.
Us (2019)
Good Trailer - Bad Movie - I registered just to write this
So I went to see this after reaching out to IMDB and seeing a very interesting trailer. Turns out the movie is decent up until the same revelation that the trailer does-- after that, it becomes total garbage. What is shown on the trailer makes it seem to be a movie with a cool, smart, witty idea for a movie, but it's definitively not a smart movie. It tries to be suspenseful, somewhat horror, thriller, some action with little touches of comedy. It fails on all aspects, to me personally it is more of a comedy, because it's very bad. I mean, I've seen worse, but it just carries on the nonsense for way too long. Just avoid it, IMDB averages work most of the time, but not for this one.
Go watch Get Out instead if you haven't.
