Evil (2019–2024)
2/10
Promiscuity ruined the show in my opinion.
20 June 2022
A very interesting start in first episodes of season 1. The show balanced between science and religion, the main antagonist was evil in the typical sense of the word but was unclear whether he was evil/possessed/etc. As understood in the Christian religion. These were the good qualities of the show (see others' references to X-Files). Then the hints of sexual dynamic started to spill through the holes between the main protagonists. Season 2 only increased this, the main protagonist became a completely different person in this sense (evil and unlikable) and, as such, lost all my sympathy. With that in mind, there is nothing left for me in this series as I don't care for evil 'heroes'. As I understand, third season ups the ante even more, so there are no morals left in the story. It's not a story about the good forces fighting against evil - it's just evil all around. Not sure if that was the point but, if it was, the authors surely miss that most people want to see good deeds, be good and do good. This teaches none of that so yeah, no thanks.

Clearly most people reviewing this have not taken LSD in significant amounts.

I have. And the movie is the epitome of a bad trip which could easily happen. You see, human society is the convergence of many people that have egoistical concerns. It's amazing that we manage to keep this world together despite all the differences. A lot of it is due to law and moral values that are based in major religions but not everything. There is a social contract every step of the way which is crucial for the world to work.

LSD is a dissociative. At certain concentration it makes your ego separate from your perception of reality and throws in a decent amount of visual and audial hallucinations. You no longer are you and the world is no longer what it seemed to be. A very real notion that the world might never be the same again visits you time and time again. This can be a very positive introspective experience where you realize the socially acceptable limits of your ego but it can also be a frightening one if you have not been the best person you are. We live in a "me, me, me" age where over the top exhibitionism of our accomplishments or just vanity is looked up upon (thanks to popular media for that). LSD cuts right through this mirage. And the movie shows just how horrible it might be if every single person realized this at once, in fear of it forever staying the same. A true nightmare, if you will.

Overall, I think that it has both artistic and real-life value but it succeeds in only portraying the negative side of dissociative use. To put things into perspective, there should be a diametrically opposite movie that would show the other side of the coin (inherently positive experience) and, thus, the waking life of our realities would be smack in the middle.

Globalism. Do we really want it?
19 January 2020
I literally started sobbing when the scientist called the main protagonist to disclose findings of the study. Think of all the sorrow and ruined lives that happened for the name of profit. It's horror in real life.

And already I can think of a bunch of people who, to my recommendation to watch this, will shrug and say something along the lines of "we will all die someday". This is the world we live in and this is how we approach issues of magnitude that's just incomprehensible to the average Joe. With ignorance.

Not the defence attorney who took on Dupont. If for anything, watch this to gain some courage through the actions of a man who put his career and family on the line to stand up against Goliath. We owe him at least that.

Our world is complicated and this movie shows how it would unravel with another layer of complexity within it.

Scary and exhilarating to see how one would be forced to become a monster to survive in a world which is full of distrust and hate towards different. The pragmatic husband character works very well with the curious girl who just wants to be normal while the best part, in my opinion, is the build-up of facts which make you realize what is real and what is not in their world, including their powers. Perhaps a bit too slow and cringy in the beginning which might put some off, but definitely escalates to in-your-face instant karma events and other thrilling scenes which make you cheer for this supernatural family every step of the way. Overall, this is definitely a contender for a universe of its own and smart money should start to invest in this now! Sure beats the new brainless 'Star Wars' tv show in my book.

Joker (I) (2019)

Wonderful main protagonist development but felt more like a prequel to Batman.
29 October 2019
The cinematography is outstanding and leaves an impression that's hard to erase. The focus on how Joker became himself pays off and makes total sense in the end despite it being detriment to society and, as such, prone to criticism from society as an invalid cause by axiom. So this film had to be made as an antidote to Batman universe backdrop. His interactions as a person with characters you might meet any day of your life are genuine and without shallow disguise.. which makes the movie so tragic. Nevertheless, this is not the full picture. I personally enjoyed The Dark Knight's "developed" Joker much more though am very thankful to the author of this movie to put the effort to make this. A must watch.

Nice thriller but probably only in IMAX 3D

Me and my girlfriend had a blast. The 3D effect went a long way to enhance the experience to the point of VR level. You just feel like you're there. That ups the stakes of every situation, no matter how seen before it is. So from beautiful vistas of Budapest to accelerating motorbike chases to 1st person POV firefights and accompanying sound effects, this flick is a winner in my book.

Too long, too much teen awkwardness, phony evil guy, too much bromance for Stark and other nonsense. I must be getting old but I do remember the first Spider Man movie to be enjoyable. This just seems like a cash cow with underdeveloped kids as the main audience. I sure hope my kids won't find this junk worth their while.

So yeah, don't pay money to see this unless you want to see more of this cgi nonsense in the near future.

"I will not take any money for it and upload it online for free"
10 September 2019
In a global culture that's obsessed with wealth and fame, this movie is a refreshing reminder that some things are just there to be enjoyed... for free. Just like that, with no price tag or strings attached.

If we appreciated things and people in such a manner, perhaps we could have another golden age of music where artists are being treated like human beings rather than disposable cash cows. And surely all of us would be way more merrier. Hey, Jude!

It just doesn't entertain that much, even for a Hollywood blockbuster. The recipe is overused - two badasses who hate each other and should make up to save the world against some deadly adversary. And there's a girl, of course.

Jokes are bland, you don't really feel for the characters as they are caricatures of themselves, the characters don't grow in any meaningful way, the enemy is overpowered to a magical degree, etc.

Did we watch the same movie?
19 March 2019
Thought that together with my girlfriend will have a pleasant evening by watching a nice movie about a couple old-timers. The evening was pleasant not because the movie was nice but because we turned it off and enjoyed each others' company in another way.

Seems like yet again one can't trust the reviews and ratings on IMDB. If you have a sense of humor that's more advanced than a three year old's, avoid this like the plague.

The 12th Man (2017)

A story about humanity.
28 May 2018
There's a lot to be told about WW2, it seems. And it should be told, over and over again. People still haven't learned what war is, how it doesn't help anyone except those in the very top, how it ruins lives, property, nature and our ability to trust each other. Some study I read said that there has never been less trust between people of same or different nationalities/cultures/etc. as there is now. That's really heartbreaking a new megalomaniac is peeking just around the corner. More than one, in fact.

Today we have weapons to destroy our whole planet and enough media manipulation to make everyone not notice it (think Middle East). Just recently a part of Ukraine was annexed, now we (Baltic states) are next on the scopes of the big, ignorant neighbor. When will we learn?

This is the message I received from this movie, that is, we have to learn to trust each other, stand up for what's right (no pun intended), not tolerate people being oppressed because of politics, being politically correct or the pressure of economically more powerful allies. Unless we learn - and fast - I'm afraid next big conflict is inevitable.

The movie itself was a bit too long, 1h30m would be fine for such a story.

Just like the good old days.
22 September 2014
I thoroughly enjoyed this flick and was still impressively entertained by Mr. Brosnan, just like with 007. The story has multiple levels, keeps you guessing and second-guessing people's ambitions and allegiances. Acting is nice, not too shabby. Action is well paced and promotes the idea of 'intelligent agents' with weaknesses (that they actually figure how to avoid). As to the story itself - yes, it's a lot of this and that, which we've seen a lot, but suspend your belief for a second and you might just see how much heart was put into this movie - and they really don't make them like this anymore. So, if you're a fan of Pierce, loved his 007 acting and enjoy some political drama, this will not disappoint you.

Awful
15 December 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Where do I begin? Of course the length. It's just ridiculously long, without anything that would make the viewer interested in, without principles or a cause. The main protagonist is a dumb little girl who can't even fathom her convictions, let alone hold on to them. She has a guy loving her, working in the MINES, while she's pretending not to like the parade of her and her "victorious" boyfriend from the games and all the posh show-off that happens. When the guy opens up to her and shows her that more than *she* matters, and the fact that he won't just run off with her, while all the rest stay in misery, all she can do is just leave. Then there's the other (long) part of the movie where she just starts to create this whole different relationship, while her lover is left behind the screen. What sort of morality is this movie trying to portray? Is this what the western world is moving towards to? Just awful.

Dirty Wars (2013)

Most people don't have a clue.
19 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I always had a feeling that the major media's version and the political affirmation is a bit one-sided, but never did I have a clue about what's really going on. I've also listened to what Naomi Watts had to say and the parallels are obvious - the world is shoving the control of grand processes in the hands of a bunch of elite, who are being represented by the White House, USA. I always knew that my brief passage through an American prism of beliefs in a high school in FL was truthful in it's lesson for me that the belief that "America is the best country in the world" will lead those young naive minds into nowhere. I'm not an American and I have no *need* to participate in "writing to your congressmen" or any similar actions (you Americans should), though I suspect that sooner or later Europe will wake up and what then? Will the civilized portion of the world be able to suppress the ambitions of megalomaniacs and shrink them down to due process?

Do we really want to see our reality as a failed civilization?
