Ready Player One (2018)
Good one time watch
I've not read the book so cannot compare with it. This movie will be fun for those who follow the Hollywood movies and have at least a basic knowledge of the video games of the past.
The movie is more like a game going on throughout. There are innumerable implicit references to other hollywood movies and explicit references to numerous video games. The balance between fun and serious story moving is good.
I am not an avid hollywood watcher but the movie kept me hooked throughout its length. I would recommend it as a one time watch.
Mary Kom (2014)
A bad treatment to an amazing real life story.
I will be honest with my review. I entered the hall with a lot of expectations already knowing the fact that the real life Mary Kom has had gone through a lot of struggle to become the champ, the first time, and once again after her marriage. But this movie does not justify her struggle one bit.
I was never able to connect to the life of the protagonist and a lot of things didn't make any sense. For example, the first condition Priyanka Chopra keeps before marriage was that she wouldn't leave boxing. But she ties her boxing gloves to the back of her marriage car so they're trashed by the road. Was it a 'Goodbye Boxing' move? Further, I see only the husband doing everything after the marriage... a fact hard to digest for a considerably backward North-East region. Sometimes I felt the director should've kept the movie's name "Onler Kom" because he was the real hero for the most part. But no, the ever caring husband who's killing himself to keep any bothering stuff away from Mary decides to reveal about the 'hole in the heart' situation of their kid on the final day of the World Championship. And if someone doesn't know, this heart problem is kept under observation for a long time and immediate surgery is never recommended.
The action was rubbish, as was the storyline, as was the soundtrack, and as was everything in the movie except the actors who've done a decent job. I feel betrayed, and heavily disappointed. If the director was able to display even half the real story of Mary Kom, a winner from not just a backward area, but a place where people reside in fear from both - the terrorists as well as the Indian army, I would've loved the movie. I've wasted my time and money on the movie.
Gali Gali Chor Hai (2012)
A huge disappointment
I'm rating on the basis of my expectations with the movie. The movie shows the Indian system exploiting the gullibility of the masses.
Good things about the movie:
1. Actors are good and have done a commendable job
2. Some would like Veena's item song
Bad things about the movie:
1. Monotonous story and very depressing throughout
2. Ends abruptly without giving a proper conclusion. But still you'll be happy that at least the movie is over.
I would rather recommend watching "Office Office" serial which gives a great portrayal of corruption in the Indian offices along with unique characters to tickle your funny bone.
