48 Angels (2007)
Not Cryptic nor Symbolic but a Clear Message
Excellent film for family and to teach Christ's Golden Rule. The cinematography will not disappoint nor will the music--both get 10 stars. The acting is good but not epic, so I give the film 9 stars. The story, however, should stick with you for a while and have a positive effect-- especially for Christians: zelie417's review is right on but I would like to add to his/her analysis regarding the end of the film:
********* Extreme spoiler follows: *********
Seamus narrates the very beginning of the film. He says, in essence, "our hearts can become hardened." Seamus also narrates the very end of the film. He says, in essence, "our hearts must break to heal."
Seamus already knows Jesus and does His work. Although Seamus dies in the end, he still gets to meet God (the geese). He also gets his miracle: through Seamus, James and "The Man, 'Darry'" FORGIVE the men from their past Catholic/Protestant Troubles. The last scene is James' heart breaking and the start of his healing and relationship with Christ-- a Very emotionally moving moment.
Shadow in the Trees (2007)
Good Story from Young Filmmaker
I lost a parent 5 years ago and thought the film was helpful. Chris W. Smith tells a very personal story in memory of his late father. The story is excellent and has moral value.
This is not a Hollywood production--thank God. The film is the product of a beginning filmmaker on a budget, yet there are MANY good scenes and the sound is good.
I agree with some of the reviews regarding scenes that could have been edited out or shortened. The acting is OK, but I have seen much, much worse on Netflix. I didn't think the lighting was bad either, and some of the macro shots were quite good.
Chris W. Smith uses sound and glimpses of a creature in the style of M. Night Shyamalan that kept me in suspense; there are plenty of spooky scenes and worth watching.
Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011)
Megan Fox Dodged a Bullet!
Unfortunately, I didn't: I sat through the whole film. Excruciating. You'll need plenty of aspirin to get through the first half of this stinker. If you u-n-w-i-s-e-l-y choose to see it through to the end, bring arsenic.
Here's what I liked about the film: I am a fan of Transformers, so I had to see it.
Here's what I disliked about the film: the acting was mediocre, at best, as the film was poisoned by the failure to convey the slightest amount of chemistry between Shia LaBeouf and Rosie Alice Huntington-Whiteley. Pathetic. The story--if there is a story--was incoherent. If you feel the need to visit the restroom you won't miss a thing, unless you want to reminisce the musical score from Inception or the many ripped-off lines from Star Trek. Even the special effects were ruined by the stiff neck I received from keeping my head pointed straight ahead for 157 minutes in order to see clearly through the 3D glasses.
This epic fail is 2 hours and 37 minutes too long. Shame on you Michael Bay!
