The Purge: Election Year (2016)
For those who can think and see how humans do want to murder/purge
This movie only took $10 million to make. It profited $68 million take home after the 10million. So yeah, it made profit first off. 2nd, I love the bloody horror side to it. But most of all, I agree with the running theme to purge. The concept in the movie that we have blood lust is correct. God did send his son to be sacrificed. So to some degree, we need to murder to cleanse our human souls The strong will survive.
We've made a country of weak people, because we cater to the weak and poor. I really enjoyed the nail being hammered away at the idea of a society purging off the weak.
Now this 3rd installment had more humor laced in with a added black guy (deli owner). But the writers over did it a tad, and it got a little old with him talking about black people this and black people that. A little less of that, and it would of been funnier. But I appreciate the effort to bring humor into something so serious.
People want to see this kind of movie, because we are of the flesh, and it's in our nature to want to see taboo things such as what this movie brings to the screen. It's sick, but not too twisted. It's honest about how we would be if we could get away with murder one night of the year.
Micheal bay directed it btw. That was interesting to see his name on the credits. It's a huge hit in my book of great movies. So don't listen to all these other critics putting it down. They are simple minded individuals who can't see past their own two feet.
Super (2010)
This is like one of those books you just can't put down
From start to finish of this film my eyes were stuck to the screen. I can say this - on a shoe string budget this film has a lot of big names in it . No, it didn't rake a lot of cash in at the box- office. It did horrible actually. But this isn't a go and spend $12 type of movie at a theater. Heck, I saw it on netflix in 2016. I don't even remember this film back in 2011 being out in the theaters. But I freaking love it anyways!!!!
A lot of blood and gore, but hey, that's more realistic if you can stomach it. That being said, I enjoyed the psychopathic sidekick that Frank met. She is a beautiful girl and a blast to watch on the screen with all her energy. Plus a very hot and crazy sex scene with her in it.
Over all it was a very interesting film to be involved in on a Sat night alone on the couch.
American Hero (2015)
Great acting but not enough action sequences
This movie isn't something I'd watch again. The action is slow to get going. It's more of a story about a semi detached comedy that you see a white man in a black man's world. He even has gold teeth lol. I do like how the story takes us on a journey of an addiction riddled baby daddy story but with a white man who's very talented and intelligent.
His ability to move objects with his mind was almost 2nd to main plot, but it made it slightly more appealing to watch and to keep our attention. I kept hoping to see cars flying through the air at bad guys, and bodies of bad guys but I didn't till the very end, and it was for 2 min and it wasn't satisfying enough. It seemed like a low budget film leaving me wanting more out of the action scenes.
Idk.. it wasn't bad, but Good enough to keep watching to the very end and then write a review about it
Are You Here (2013)
It is a hidden gem of a film
This film had me glued to the screen. Owen did a great job here. His role was spot on his usual charming and witty character. Zack was his typical bipolar super interesting and intelligent self. The story had a lot of great points. It spoke to me in many ways about mental illness and friendships. Owen and Zack play best friends that feed off each other's negative choices and are each others crutches. The step mom was a 60's inspiration hippie type. Ben's sister was played well by an actress who usually plays a comedy role. But her face does look creased and stressed and fits the uptight Role wonderfully. Of course the two women clash. The director shows the contrast of city and wandering tumbleweed hippie very well. I do see how the story could confuse some. But life isn't a Hollywood film and they are trying to convey this in the story. Life isn't black and white, good nor bad. We just are here. The voices start to show us Ben really is crazy and he starts to see this too and decides to take his meds. He loses his insanity but also loses his creativity and slips into a normal life. But at the end sees this. It does leave me thinking if he will return to the farm and start the hippie commune...
