Fargo: Bisquik (2024)
Man says ending is fantastic!
Either the best or 2nd best season of Fargo (season 1 may be better). When the main plot was wrapped up so quickly I was a little worried but it did not disappoint.
A show we thought was about a crazy, narcissistic wife beater vs a wealthy debt collector who would do anything to win and be right turned into something so much deeper.
Fargo always seems to have that speckle of "supernatural " whether it's UFO's, fish falling from the sky, etc., but it usually on the periphery. This time it is the grand finale!!!
Our man from over the pond embarks on a speech for the ages as our reunited, happy family is making dinner. The back and forth from a legendary story to chili and biscuits is some of the best writing I've ever seen. The message at the end is timeless. A nice ending to a series full of violence and self indulgent people. Great job!!
The Untold History of the United States (2012)
What?
Only made it through 2 1/2 episodes. Why? According to OS Russia won the war in Europe on their own and they also caused the Japanese to surrender in just one day by entering the Pacific campaign. According to him, the dropping of two atomic bombs on Japan had NOTHING to do with their surrender. They were used to having cities destroyed. This is a Fairy Tale at best, propaganda at worst.
The Greatest Showman (2017)
Outstanding!!!!
Coming from someone who is not a big musical lover, this movie was outstanding. Great story. Great acting/singing. Perfect pacing. Memorable quotes. Actually wished it would have been a little longer as it was that enjoyable. Even if musicals aren't your thing, give this one a try.
Dunkirk (2017)
Some good some bad
**May contain spoilers** First off, this movie is nowhere near a 10/10. The lack of character depth/development alone bars it from approaching that. In fact, the only character you every really care about is Farrier (Tom Hardy's character). He seems to be the only character that that is still taking the fight to the enemy while everyone else is just "surviving". Some of the other characters die but you just don't really care. You can't distinguish them from any other soldier/sailor you see.
Next, though I admire Nolan for trying something different with the three different setting/different timed ride, it just didn't work for me. He definitely tried to bring it together toward the end of the film but for the majority of the film you were just trying check off a list in your head that the sea scene was in this order compared to the air scene compared to the Mole scene. Again, good idea but it maybe was just a little too cute for its own good.
Last, the visuals and music were outstanding. The scene of Farrier's plane coasting toward the end of the movie was just fantastic as well as most of the battle scenes.
In closing, I think this movie needed much more character development, dialogue (I can only remember one line from the movie "You can almost see it") and perhaps a reason to actually cheer for all of these poor souls left stranded on the beach at Dunkirk. Worth seeing but not an all-time great.
