Secrets & Lies (1996)
Very emotional
I think this is the most intriguing realistic film I've watched so far. The actors were great, especially Brenda Blethyn and Marianne Jean-Baptiste whom we lived every single scene with them ad if it were our own. Their tears and reactions to all the secrets are very sincere and painful. Take into consideration the real shock the actors themselves had as the secrets, that the director kept secrets from them, were unraveling all through the film.
Cast Away (2000)
A modern Robinson Crusoe
A person who gets trapped in an island after his plane went down. The film doesn't only tell the story of the man's life on the island but also the story of his life before and after. The Fedex ad is rather annoying and exaggerated.
Orphan (2009)
One of the best horror films I've watched
I'm not a fan of horror but this film is one of the best. It's about an orphan who appears to be very clever, talented and well mannered. As she moves to live with her new family, they begin to face some troubles.
The Water Diviner (2014)
The only dedication that made me cry
A story about a farmer who searches for water in a deserted area, as well as for his sons who presumed missing in war.
Flightplan (2005)
The horror of losing a child
It's intriguing how someone can manipulate our minds! I thoulght of leaving the film in the middle because I thought the idea was extended in a boring way. I decided otherwise when there was a plot twist the film suddenly became interesting.
Basic Instinct (1992)
The most modern classic film
How did I get the impression this film is the most modern classic film I've seen? The unnecessary dramatic music, the choice of an old male with a young female, and the unrealistic depiction of a femme fatale. It looks like it was made for a different age.
Flatliners (2017)
Good
I'd been obsessed with NDE for a while and this film is giving me a new perspective. The film unexpectedly takes a spiritual turn of events after a scientific perspective.
Medianeras (2011)
What's not to like ?
The poetic language of the film, the well-thought of ideas, and the artistic concepts are great. It's very brilliant and creative watching it only once wouldn't give it justice.
Venuto al mondo (2012)
It keeps geeting better.
The only reason that I didn't fully enjoy the film was the handsome character of Gojoco that was misleading. He seemed to be in love with Gemma that I had the impression it was about 'their' love story and hence was waiting for them to fall in love till the second half of the film. The film keeps getting better with every passing minute till the very the end. "The wierdest love stories are the best" it was said, and I say war stories are the best. It expels our deepest feelings and fears.
The poetic title of the film made me wondering about the meaning behind it all through the film. What is it that was born twice? first I thought it was pietro who was thought to be born by two different women. But then, at the end, it was still Pietro but because he was born in two diffferent circumstances. A very lucky war kid indeed.
Touched with Fire (2015)
Extreme
It felt like it's promoting for such kind of love. There's been times during the film where I was like "I want to experience a love like that". I rarely watch romance unless there is an idea behind it and this film was radical, a ball of energy, and actually enjoyable.
The Conjuring (2013)
One of the most scary films I've seen
I'm not a fan of horror films but I had to watch it when I read it was based on a true story. To what extent the truth was told? Some of the events seemed unbelievable to me. It's too terrifying to be recommand, but if you are a fan of horror then you should go and watch it.
Hannibal (2001)
Hannibal is not as tough as he seems to be
I'm a huge fan of the triology of Hannibal Lecter (The Silence of The Lamb, Hannibal, and Red Dragon) and I find Hannibal which is done by Antony Hopkins is particularly interesting. This film, however, was the least interesting one. Maybe because there are many details taken out to fit the time duration of the film which weakened the plot.
Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (2001)
Do you find different culture's comedies funny?
Have you ever had a glimpse of what your life would be if you live somewhere else? I honestly never experienced this while watching a film and when I did, while watching Amelie, it seemed so real to me. The actress is one of the best and the film wouldn't be as successful as it is if it weren't for her.
A Quiet Place (2018)
A brilliant idea done poorly
The film is not deep enough for my taste. The idea though is really good it should have given more thought. A world where sound is prohibited wouldn't be the world as we know it. People will develop new techniques and tools, soundproof houses for example! They never wear shoes, their feet shouldn't be as neat as they were in the film. Those details really ruined my ability to enjoy the film. I'd really watch another film with the same idea but different story.
Personal Shopper (2016)
One of the best horror films
I'm not a fan of horror films normally but this film is very enjoyable. It gets more and more interesting with every passing minute. It's the first time I hear of the term 'medium', but I happened to know a medium myself who can feel the presence of spirits. It's more common than I thought I guess, I'd really recommend it to those who are more interested in the metaphysical part of horror.
La migliore offerta (2013)
One of my favorites
I decided to watch some random movies by Geoffrey Rush as I came to the conclusion that he doesn't choose to be in random films. He chooses his films carefully and I watched a few of them and there was nothing that I didn't like. This film in particular is the best. Some films feel like a waste of time, but this one was so good that it added years to my life. So intense that I experienced another life. Relationships, confusion, love, dishonesty from the beginning to the end.
I Origins (2014)
The idea is brilliant but...
I read many good reviews about the film and I was excited to watch it. The idea is really brilliant but the way the story handled this idea was less than expected. There is this strange sensation and unpleasant feeling when the movie reached to the end.
About Time (2013)
Lovely and clever
It's very brilliant. A film with a moral lesson put in the nicest way poeeible. I found myself going back in my mind in time to moments where I would act in a different way, which you can make up for now.
The Holiday (2006)
Very good
Which one did you like? The cosy cottage in the English countryside, or the modern villa in LA? Which character of those men did you like? The funny one, or the one who cries when reading poems or watching films? It's a enjoyable film that raises such questions and speaks to you directly.
Brain on Fire (2016)
House World
It's like an episode from Dr. House. The story is good and sad at the same time, definitely intriguing.
Pollock (2000)
Not very inspirng !
I don't think I'm in the place to rate a biography film. What I kept thinking of, however, all through the movie that not every life should be turned into a film. Some artists' lives should be seperated from their works. The film tells a very unpleasant story that exists behind great art works. I'm a fan of the art work here but definitely not the artist.
Django Unchained (2012)
Very good. Go for it.
Such movies make me lose hope in humanity as a whole and have faith in individuals.
Final Portrait (2017)
Plain
I watched the film a while ago and honestly I remember everything except the end. There's nothing much to remember about the film because the artist always stays in his studio painting and repainting. The whole film, however, resembles an experience I went through recently with someone moody I didn't really get along with (I was the writer and she was the artist) and I left her unsatisfied. Maybe that's why the end seems blurry to me.
Nuovo Cinema Paradiso (1988)
Simple
A boy who was obsessed with cinema all his life even after he grew up and lived far away, it was always part of him. A very stretched idea that could Have been told in 10 minutes.
Frida (2002)
It was about her love life more than her art
It was a little disappoiting for me to see that it was focused on her relationships more than her art. It was a good film but the title was a little misleading. She is famous for her self-portraits, unusual style, eyebrows and for her hairy body which I didn't see in the film. It should have been 'Frida in Love' or something like that.
