Dominion (2018)
Should be mandatory viewing for those of us who eat meat.
Excellent cinematography built on actual insight into the industrial production of meat, but keep in mind that it is obviously propaganda (e.g. explicitly showing workers who go out of their way to mistreat animals, sad and dire tunes to accompany the slaughter.) The presentation is fantastic; it is both a good movie, and good propaganda.
Regardless of how the film chooses to depict industrial meat, the brutality of that system is clear. It doesn't matter much that the movie isn't neutral, the content of the imagery is itself enough to give the viewer something to think about.
One should be forced to contemplate if they think the means justify the ends of the consumption they engage in, this movie shows just what those means are. I never knew how a slaughterhouse worked before this movie, now I do and so now I can make an informed decision.
Occupation (2018)
Aliens invade small-town Australia...
... and after crossing the vast expanse of space, they land, line up and walk in formation while shooting at tents.
The top review right now says "We normally get low budget dramas but for once, we were given something to rival Hollywood in terms of sci fi blockbusters".
No my friend, no you did not.
Cell Count (2012)
Don't watch it. Just don't.
The movie sounds promising, it looks promising and it disappoints about as much as a movie possibly could. The first 20 minutes had me on the edge of my seat, not because it was exciting, but because I really thought it would be a good movie.
Then it got progressively worse until the very end. The only thing I can praise is the half decent acting and the extremely promising premise. Everything else is awful, what really got to me and what inspired me to write this, my first review on IMDb, was the plot. It's as if someone, after the first few minutes, came in with a hammer and started bashing the writer slowly but surely until at the end of the script he'd simply lost the capacity to write a coherent story. I don't want to go in to too much detail beyond that because the movie simply does not deserve it.
Avoid!
