No Time to Die (2021)
Bond film uniqueness has been lost
Having been a Bond fan for ever I was truly disappointed with this latest offering.
What Bond brought to the screen: coolness, success without too much effort, humour, light touch, self deprecation have all been lost.
This could have been any modern action film with a character named Bond.
The film traded on the past without adding to the myth.
Daniel Craig unfortunately takes himself far too seriously & again he could have been any character, in this film he just happened to be called James Bond.
Aside from that, with the notable exception of Ana de Armas and Naomie Harris all the newcomers weren't up to the roles. The new 007 import acted like she was made of cardboard. I appreciate the producers want to tick as many boxes as possible but priority should be to acting ability.
Overall I wish for a return to basics in the next film, both with Bond & with the tone of the film. I might well be disappointed.
The Gentlemen (2019)
Excellent Guy Richie film
Guy Richie back to his best.
Excellent storyline & great characters
All the main leads are outstanding, Colin Farrell stealing the show
with Hugh Grant & Michelle Dockery tremendous.
Sit back & enjoy a roller coaster ride through Britain.
The 2nd (2020)
Appaling
A script written on the back of a cereal packet
By far the worst this about this film is the acting
Never seen heard dialogue with every line delivered in a monosyllabic drawl
Love Thy Neighbour (1973)
Do not waste your valuable time
The TV show was absolutely appalling, I cannot believe someone thought it a good idea to commission a film.
Unbelievable
John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019)
A mere shadow of the two previous films
I had been looking forward to the latest John Wick since the end of the slightly lame second film.
Unfortunately this film is more like a cartoon.
Seems like some suits in LA have killed the golden goose, where as the first film at least has a raison d'etre for the revenge, this one jumps straight in without any scene setting or back story.
Hey' guys lets get straight to the fighting & violence 'cos that's what the punters want, let's make another packet at the box office without having to put any thought or effort into a credible storyline.
I love Keanu Reeves but he seems to have gone walkabout & reverted to monosyllabic grunts.
By far & away the best actor was his dog, now there is a star worth watching.
Instant Family (2018)
American cliché of how life could be like
Mark, what in God's name possessed you to be in a film like this. Absolutely appalling schmaltz from start to end.
If this is what is deemed to be worth making for the cinema then please take me away in a box now.
Sentimentality aimed at the easy emotional string, I cannot believe some of the other reviews.
They must have been written by people from the good ship lollipop
The Girl in the Spider's Web (2018)
Poor poor poor
Unfortunately not a patch on the original Swedish films, Claire Foy might be a fine actress in historical dramas but quite what she is doing in this limp imitation is anyone guess. Noomi Rapace she certainly ain't nor indeed Roona Mara
Real shame that studios continue to firstly re-hash films / characters that have already been done to perfection but also re-cast characters with actors unsuited to the role.
Superfly (2018)
Why remake a classic
Hollywood has become increasingly lazy in terms of originality. Nowadays it seems that it's far easier to trawl through old stock & think they can update it to appeal to today's audiences.
I name but a few: The Italian Job, Gone in 60 Seconds, Total Recall, Arthur. The list is endless & with very few exceptions all have been a waste of time, effort & money.
This film is no exception, the original is a 70's masterpiece, to try & retell that is just downright lazy.
Watch the original if you want to see a good film.
The Hatton Garden Job (2017)
Appalling
A travesty of a film. What could have been a great story about OAPs robbing Hatton Garden has been turned into a cheap by numbers cheeky cockney heist. The script is one that must have had the actors pissing razor blades, it is appalling. There are some excellent English actors in this; Phil Daniels, Larry Lamb; I was upset that they have been reduced to acting in this level of film. If you like early Guy Richie films do NOT be suckered into watching this facsimile of a film. Save your money & time and wallpaper the lounge.
