Happy Endings (2011)
The Cast Is Perfect!
The chemistry between the six main characters is award-winning! Like seriously! They work so well together, as a group they are perfection. As individuals, they are also pretty amazing. I seriously DO NOT have a favorite character! I love them all!
And people often compare this show to Friends, they even do on the show, but I love this show so much more.
*ALEX KERKOVICH (Elisha Cuthbert)* In one episode, they compare Alex to Rachel, but I love Alex so much more! She is the cutest little idiot EVER! Whether she's impulsively spending $300 on a talking cotton candy machine, stuffing her face in a plate of ribs, or just trying to make a joke or reference that isn't QUITE spot-on, she instantly stole my heart with her stupidity.
When casually dating her ex-fiancé, she tells her friends: "The last thing we want is for things to get complicated like in 'It's Complicated.' So we're just gonna go with it, like in 'Just Go With It,' and be friends with benefits, like in 'No Strings Attached!'"
*JANE KERKOVICH-WILLIAMS (Eliza Coupe)* The older sister of Alex, Jane is the type-A perfect one. Obviously, this makes her a lot like Monica from Friends. But no, Jane is like Monica 2.0. She's hard-core crazy. When her husband Brad comes home not wearing his engagement ring she know instantaneously because of the "distinct clicking noise" it makes when he opens the door.
She also constantly goes crazy trying to improve the lives of her friends: "I'm gonna say this because I am one of your best friends, and I don't wanna overstep, but every choice you make in your life about everything is monumentally wrong."
*BRAD WILLIAMS (Damon Wayans Jr.)* The business man who is married to Monica: Chandler. No! Now my sister may spurn me for saying so, but Brad > Chandler. Brad and Jane are SUCH a better couple. Chandler was too insecure, but Brad is not, he's fun a lovable. And the passion in Brad and Jane's relationship is always strong. Their friends often cringe at how inappropriate the couple gets. "You know I likes mah sex. Loves me some smush." He's also very charming. "I'm like Lance Charm-strong." And Brad acts feminine ALL THE TIME (he loves romantic comedies) but he's comfortable with his sexuality, unlike Chandler, maybe it helps that Brad has a GFF (Gay Fat Friend).
*MAX BLUM (Adam Pally)* The chubby best friend of Chandler = Joey. TWIST! He's gay. DOUBLE TWIST! The gay character is not at all stereotypical. In fact, he is the least flamboyant of the three guys on the show. Like Joey, Max loves his food. But Max has zero ambition. His life has been described as "unsabotagable" because he has nothing going on in his life. Max speaks his mind and he loves to pick on friends, but takes offense when they call him chubby. He likes sports and and is a lazy slob. He is so adorable and lovable, when he shows his soft side, he's like a big cuddly bear (And in one episode he acts like one).
*DAVE ROSE (Zachary Knighton)* The nerdy guy who is in love with Rachel: Ross. Dave isn't necessarily better than Ross, but he's different, in a good way. Dave owns his own food truck and is obsessed with V-necks. He is determined to be the cool guy of the group, but he is not. He is funniest when the group is making fun of him.
*PENNY HARTZ (Casey Wilson)* The other girl in Friends is Phoebe, but Phoebe is not Penny. Penny is her own person. And being someone who was obsessed with Phoebe growing up, you can trust me when I say Penny is so much better! Penny is the desperately single girl of the group. She can never keep a guy. Her friends always tease her, one time making a bet on how long it would take for her mention her new boyfriend. She has her own lingo, abbreviating words like relationship to "relaysh" and pronouncing vowel sounds differently like "a-mah-zing" and "this soocks" and "roogh stoof". "I know it seems like I have my life together, but I am a mess, okay? Psycho! I will, like, friend your mom on Facebook and start showing up at events I was not invited to!"
So in conclusion, I HIGHLY recommend watching this show. And although the character dynamic can be compared to that of Friends, each character is so much better!
The story lines are so creative too! In one episode the group awaits the annual fight of Brad and Jane that means the end of winter. In another, Penny discovers she speaks Italian when she's drunk. There's one where Penny dates a guy with the last name Hitler. In the season three premiere, Penny is in a full-body cast, and Max drugs her so he can seduce her hot physical therapist Kent. And of course "The Kerkovich Way" which is hard to explain; just watch it, and you'll love it. All the episodes are on YouTube.
I especially recommend the following episodes (in chronological order): Pilot Like Father, Like Gun Dave of the Dead The Code War The Shrink, The Dare, Her Date, and Her Brother Makin' Changes Everybody Loves Grant The Butterfly Effect Effect The Kerkovich Way Big White Lies Cazsh Dummy Spillionares P&P Romance Factory Fowl Play/Date Kickball 2: The Kickening The Marry Prankster In the Heat of the Noche Brothas & Sisters
Once Upon a Time (2011)
I love this show to death, but...
This show really makes you fall in love with the villains: Regina (The Evil Queen), Gold (Rumplestiltskin), and Captain Hook. You feel their pain, you understand them... or you just their hot. Those three are definitely my favorite characters. Especially Gold and Regina. Flashback tales of their past are heartbreaking, and their acting is always flawless.
I love this show to death, but I love romantic-comedy Ginnifer Goodwin so much, and I HATE that this show is keeping her from doing more rom- coms. Snow White is a great character and Ginnifer is always an amazing actress, but Snow lacks the cutesy quality from "He's Just Not That Into You" that made me fall in love with Ginnifer Goodwin. I started watching Once Upon a Time for Ginnifer, but I continued watching for Lana Parrilla and Robert Carlyle, and upon his joining the cast, Colin O'Donoghue.
The rest of the cast is also great and delivers amazing performances. Honorable mention to Emilie de Ravin, Jennifer Morrison and Barbara Hershey. The story lines are interesting, and the creative team behind the show always provides delicious twists on classic fairy tale stories, always adding more to the characters you thought you knew. The show has a unique method of storytelling, intertwining scenes from present day with scenes from the past that provide exposition for the characters that explains their behavior in present day. Altogether a great show!
