Most Haunted (2002)
bad, boring, fake
I generally like this genre of TV show, but this is just all around bad TV. When I first got satellite TV I noticed that the Travel Channel frequently airs the "haunted shows". I looked forward to it, but quickly discovered that this show is not worth it. The locations are somewhat interesting, but everything is so staged, fake, and melodramatic it is nauseating. Every little dust particle that flies by is a spirit orb! Derek and his supposed possessions are obviously the sad (to the point of pathetic and comical) attempts of a man who dreamed of a career in the world of dramatic stage acting. I'd have to b#tch slap him just for acting stupid if he started that crap around me. I would strongly recommend "Ghost Hunters" on the SciFi channel instead. They deal in evidence, not theories, melodramas, and so called spirit mediums. They sometimes come up with nothing (so does Most Haunted), but that is part of their point. They want to prove that it really all may or may not be real, and can sometimes just be logically explained.
The Naked Chef (1999)
Not sure about this one
I don't know if his tongue is too fat for his mouth or what the problem is, but if you didn't have to hear him talk in his near lisp voice, this show might be tolerable. That, coupled with the fact that the American ear often has trouble understanding British accents anyway, sometimes makes this show irritating. Some of the dishes are good, but he does often work at such a frenzied pace that it becomes an overload to try and keep up with what's going on. Can be somewhat entertaining at times. For awhile you could occasionally catch it airing on the Food Network, but the last time I saw it was at about 4:00 in the morning during an insomniac moment. I think it's been relegated to a late night time slot, right before the infomercials begin.
The Office (2001)
typical British tripe
I heard that this supposedly has somewhat of a cult following in the USA, so I watched a couple of episodes on BBC America. Not even remotely impressed.
The British sense of humor often doesn't translate well to American audiences, and vice versa. If the American version ever makes it to TV, I'm betting (and hoping) it will bomb. I would describe it as more irritating than funny. As with a lot of British television, you practically need a translator to try and figure out what they're saying, due to some of their heavy British accents and referrals to things which only the British can relate to. I understand some people like BBC America, but I'm sorry, I've tried and there's nothing there worth watching so it basically gets quickly passed over with the remote control.
