Batman and Harley Quinn (2017)
Batman with a less serious tone
With all the serious world-ending action flicks coming out, DC has really outdone themselves this time. They decided to make a comedy, Harley Quinn style. This movie is more of a homage to the fans of the DC universe. They wanted to have fun and we, the viewers, also had fun watching it.
This movie has serious and sad moments, but still retains the comedic value that is Harley Quinn. I personally find this movie to be gold. It's a much needed breath of fresh air and I recommend this movie to all viewers, though it is obvious that this movie is focused towards long-time fans of the DC universe.
Seriously, this animated movie is amazing.
The Messengers (2015)
Kinda like 7th Heaven, but with low-grade cgi and mediocre sex appeal
This show starts off really well. Well, sort of. Enough for me to continue watching with some interest. I am now on the 5th episode, more because the story is interesting enough so far... but it's the little things that get to me.
Minor spoiler part...
The little things like:
-how they show peyote in a bowl, then suddenly they are back-to-back having the trip? Why leave out the part where they drink it? It's just ridiculous to leave out the actual drinking of the drug, but to still imply it's usage.
-the guy in the wheelchair... The set-up for sadness is so cringe- worthy.
-the girl's reaction to being seen naked (albeit briefly) all throughout the episode tell me that this show is geared for kids.
-the mom who lost her kid and her reaction to seeing her possible kid is a stretch at best (though this one is more of a major plot issue, I guess)
-the odd clues and visions that god gives the group... So many things wrong with this. It's set-up in such an obvious "let's try and try and fail and succeed and try and fail, until... finale?" type way. If god wanted to test humanity (as an all knowing, all seeing, omnipotent being), then these types of tests are rather retarded. These clues and visions and treasure-hunting could have been made far better with just a bit more time and thought.
- the cops getting the kid (who actually is a terrible actor) made no sense either.
End of spoiler part
So overall, this show appeared to be something interesting at first. It gave us a story that was a bit cliché, but not enough for it to be turned off. As you get further into the show, it get's bad. Worse. Awful. I do not drop shows easily. I'm mostly sad about not knowing the story, but it's just *so* bad. Maybe I'll finish it someday. But I don't know if I can sit through two seasons.
Edge of Tomorrow (2014)
Glorious
Firstly, I would like to say that this is the best damn movie I have ever seen. I have seen a lot of movies, both good, bad and far in between. This movie has it all, from stunning graphics to emotional acting to gripping story. I would pay for this movie over and over.
Secondly, while I have seen this idea before (groundhog day) and in a few other movies, this was a new take on the idea. It is refreshing to see a science fiction movie that is dramatic, not stupidly comedic (meaning stupid puns and lame jokes) and yet still gives a slight air of reality. The movie really made me feel as if the re-dos were happening.
The real kicker for me was the cycle of emotions that the main character (tom cruise) was being put through, and therefore putting the audience through. Brilliant job from him.
This movie is absolutely glorious. Well done people.
Gallowwalkers (2012)
Awful, but still better than watching How I Met Your Mother.
This movie is something else. I started watching this movie thinking it was a very popular Hollywood flick. HA! Don't get me wrong, the movie IS entertaining. But for different reasons than being a good movie. The action scenes make no sense, and they remind me of WWE shows. The main character is portrayed as the best gunman is possibly all of history and he become so in only 5 (ish) years without a mentor? Right. The gore is fine, but sometimes just ridiculous. I think the part of the movie where the guy hides as a goat was where I figured out how horrible it all really was. How did he get there? How could anyone mistake a man for a goat? I am in awe at the director and producers for letting that fight scene slide through. Sure, there is suddenly a guy on barn! I think they either cut out 90% of the explanation or they just didn't care and thought the audience wouldn't care either.
The costumes for the most part are pretty good, particularly the skinless dude. Wrong color, but still nicely detailed enough.
I would say that the only well acted scene would be the rape scene. At least the audience can feel anguish for her character. The rest of the movie is more humorous than dramatic.
I finished the movie and I didn't regret seeing it. If anything, you get to see some lovely boobs. I suggest it is worth watching. But it is certainly not worth paying for.
G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013)
Generic action flick. One major fault.
The movie by in large, without taking in small details, is not too shabby. Its entertaining and good enough to fill your time. Now taking in to account the smaller details, there are TONS of plot-holes. So many that you may in fact not care in the end about them. For all we know, the director was trying to keep a fast pace without worrying about the small details. But, in my opinion, its the small details that make a really good movie.
*here is the spoiler*
So, the biggest problem I have with this movie (and honestly I can't believe no one else reviewed about this) is the London part of the story. Effectively, London was the test dummy for the bad guy's weapon. Action flicks need lots of destruction to be good, so that's fine. But, what really got me wondering is why there was no mention of it after the heroes saved the day. There were medals, honors, and prizes awarded, but no mention AT ALL of the destruction of London (some 8 million people dead). Even if they had just mentioned something in passing. But no! Bad guy kills off 8 million people and all the movie says is "you wont get away with this" and that's all that is mentioned about it. I can't properly express how off putting that is.
As I said, there are lots of little details which make no sense. Frankly, it looks like the creators were getting lazy while making this movie. It will definitely not be a memorable movie, but it is good enough if you are just in it for the action. Good stunts, good scenery, decent acting, just horrible plot holes. 3/10 (btw, if they had done a better job with the ending by mentioning the destruction of London, even by making a joke and saying "oops" I would have given the movie a 5/10)
