Lacked closure...
4 August 2019
A remake of the 1956 sci-fi classic, this '78 version stars a young Jeff Goldblum and Donald Sutherland. Philip Kaufman isn't all that well-known as a director, but did a decent job on this film. While I was not all that found of the story, I did stay entertained. The plot is basic. Alien seed comes to earth and start to grow, as they grow they also begin to replicate the town's people's bodies. The story is unfinished. It lacks closure, but maybe people don't need it. I do. I get where the story was going, but there are too many questions unanswered and I need a part 2 because I need that closure in a film. And because of that, I don't want to give it a bunch of stars. I'm way to confused to love it.

Lifeforce (1985)

Odd and oddly sexy
4 August 2019
Lifeforce is an 80's sci-fi film that borderlines on a zombie apocalypse. Astronauts find an alien space ship and three well preserved aliens in human bodies. In order to survive, they most take the souls of humans by kissing them. The film is odd, and oddly with a woman taking those she wants in order to maintain her life. It is all about taking as many as she can. The film is directed by Tobe Hopper, who is known for his horror films. This film could be considered horror, but it didn't have the same graphic film as his other works. Overly dated and special effects are very 80's but keeps you entertained for about 100 minutes.

No Way Out (1987)

Good Suspense Thriller
4 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Kevin Costner stars in a military and political cover-up in this mid-80's film with Gene Hackman and a very popular Sean Young. Sean Young was one of the IT girls in the 80's and so were the bad soundtracks. This movie was filled with it. Anytime you had a scenery scene, it was all about the horrible music. Film on the other hand was good. It was suspenseful and had me on the edge of my seat. Plus, who doesn't like a young Kevin Costner. But...let me say that you need to watch til the end, you will be surprised at the ending. That is what makes a good suspense thriller.

Revenge (I) (1990)

Costner and Stowe - A great combo
4 August 2019
After watching NO WAY OUT, I had to see another Kevin Costner movie from his youth. This is where Revenge comes in. Revenge is suspense thriller about a retired military pilot (Costner), who goes to Mexico and friends a powerful Mexican mafia man. He also falls for his new friend's trophy wife. If I was Costner in 1990, I would fall for the trophy wife too. I never realized how hot Madeleine Stowe was when she was younger. She played a Latina and oddly, it worked. I believed it. The movie had good flow, suspense, and kinda sad. I really enjoyed this film and need to boost watches of both Costner and Stowe. Can we have more of them together, because they were super together.

I wasn't on the edge of my seat.
4 August 2019
With two big names in the 70's, Robert Redford and Faye Dunaway, Three Days of The Condor made a desirable watch. Directed by Sydney Pollack, this film is about a CIA agent who finds his agents dead and he no longer knows who to trust when he is being shot at himself. The story lacked originality, but for the 70's maybe it was ahead of its time. It also lacked suspense and a desire to keep watching, even though I did. They kept too much a secret in the plot, but it was so much that I didn't care because I didn't know what really was going on. Personally, I like to have the plot set up early enough that I am on the edge of my seat hoping he would be saved from the bad guys. I wasn't on my seat, I was falling asleep. Wished this had been better.

Mean Streets (1973)

Had high hopes for this film
4 August 2019
Mean Streets is one of Martin Scorsese early films where he took audiences to the streets of New York with a mid-level mobster (Harvey Keitel) trying to work his way up while maintaining a friendship with a low-life slug (Robert DeNiro). DeNiro's portrail of Johnny Boy is probably what led him to classic roles in The Godfather and and Taxi Driver. He is brilliant in the role. I don't think the film would have had such an impact without his contribution to the movie. Keitel is good, but DeNiro makes it. What I really didn't like about the film is that the dialog is so in your face, loud, and messy that it really distracted from the story. So much that I hardly knew what the plot was about. I had high hopes for this film, but there are a lot of better mobster movies that are better.

A Good Cry at the end
4 August 2019
This is probably one of the only Pixar films that I had never seen. It wasn't very promoted film and I can see why it isn't one of the popular ones. The Good Dinosaur is a film about a family of Brontosauruses that have 3 kids. Out of the three baby dinos, one of them is a little small and slow. He can't compete with his brother and sister in achieving greatness. He gets lost when he flows down the river. As he tries to find his way home, he meets and friends a cave baby, who is out on his home. The two of them head toward home and the story is about their journey home. Its a happy, funny, and sad film that is exactly what Pixar is about, but there is so much down time that I can see where kids would lose interest. I enjoyed it very much and had a good cry at the end.

The Evil (1978)

Lack of substance
4 August 2019
70s Horror was not that good for the most part. The Evil is about a a man who purchased a mansion and its is possessed. Why? We really don't know. All of his friends and colleagues who have come to help clean up the joint, die of various deaths. This is not a spoiler, but a standard in every bad horror flick. The movie lacked a true storyline of who, what, where, when, and why. I really needed more substance.
