King Kong Lives (1986)
Underrated movie
I am surprised that even many kong fans didn't like this movie. It may not be in the same league as King Kong and Godzilla. But it is an entertaining flick all through. It is also the most moving and touching of all kong movies. I watched it in a theater when i was a kid and have fond memories so I may be biased. But it is not as bad as most of the reviews are saying. If you are looking for a Godzilla like stomp city monster destruction flick or Kong climbing a empire state type of monster classic then this is not the film for you. This is just a simple monster movie with fun action and campy acting with some emotional punches thrown in. So overall a good adventure film that makes you nostalgic of your childhood days.
Gojira vs. Supesugojira (1994)
One Cool movie
Don't expect a star wars. With these films you never do and never should. Just like most of the godzilla films this one too is campy cheesy entertainment. Earlier i was very critical about the film. But watching it again i realized it was fun and not to be judged too harshly. In fact it is an underrated movie. Even among godzilla fan circles. This film is nonstop entertainment from beginning to end full of monster action and special effects which we Kaiju fans love to see. It has one of the best destruction scenes of all G films and Space godzilla is one hell of a monster. If you are a Godzilla fan, add it to your collection now.
Gojira-Minira-Gabara: Oru kaijû daishingeki (1969)
Godzilla doesn't take any revenge but sure does has some fun.
In the garb of campy humor and eccentric plot, Godzilla's revenge aka All monsters attack is actually a film dealing with a very serious matter. I have a personal understanding for this film as I myself was a latchkey kid in my childhood much like Ichiro the kid lead in the movie. After returning from school I used to find myself completely alone at home as my parents used to go to work. So I deeply connect myself with Ichiro and feel what the movie is trying to tell. Alienation compels Ichiro to create his own fantastic world which exists in his mind where he is free to let his imagination run wild where he meets minilla, watches godzilla battle other monsters etc. These visualizations in his mind is nothing but the fallout of his cumulative feelings and repressions spawned by loneliness, emptiness and frustration (in this case owing to being bullied). They can have a positive and negative repercussions. A negative one will send the kid into despair and depression. Fortunately for Ichiro it works positively as he is inspired by minilla and Godzilla to overcome his fear and face and defeat his enemies. Apart from such a subjective story the movie is very entertaining and fun (especially minilla's antics). As for the stock footage I haven't seen many previous godzilla movies to this point and with respect to story it really doesn't matter. This movie is highly watchable and i recommend it to kids and adults (parents) alike.
