Captain Fall (2023)

Dark and not funny

So I watched the entirety of this animated series with an open mind. An outrageous parody of villainy with a large number of references to bond. Making jokes about horrendous crimes and the lack of competence from those who are supposed to stop them. Captain fall is a patsy who is so innocent it's beyond the joke it's portraying. Steam rolling past lovable doofus to incredibly awkward moron with cartoonishly evil selfish and cruel parents. The main female lead. A powerful deadly femme fatale who appears to be playing our protagonist can't seem to decide whether she likes him or if she's just using him. This might have lead somewhere had the series not been cancelled.

But given that the bulk of the content supposed to be humourous was just dark jokes intended to poke fun at death, sex and criminal enterprises. As well as cruel families. It just misses every mark imaginable.

Hazbin Hotel (2019– )

This show cropped up on YouTube some years ago. With the release of the song addicted. Ever since then I've been hooked on it. So if any show deserves a prime rendition it's theirs. I for one hope the songs are as good as their originals. If this is as good as the original it will blow up immensely. If your looking to be interested in this show. Go and watch the YouTube versions. I hope they start doing a few of their works. Such as hellovaboss and lacksydaisy. The characters are intriguing. The protagonist is quirky and the storyline is fun and new. Very interesting. I for one loved the original.

Believer 2 (2023)

the movie the original wanted to be.

This film takes the baton from the original film and completely remakes the ending. Becoming what the original was aiming for. Believer 2 Is a more entertaining movie while believer 1 is slower and more thoughtful. The combination of these two movies creates an atmosphere akin to the coen brothers. If I had just seen the believer I would have just carried on like nothing happened. But believer 2 gave characters a much needed exposition. Gave us an explanation of ambition and obsession. A satisfying conclusion. In contrast to the originals mystery ending which was frankly annoying. My only complaint is that when making the original they clearly didn't consider the sequel ahead of time so while the sequel does it's best. There are some rather obvious inconsistencies. Which can't be helped.

One Piece (2023– )

Most faithful.

This is an abridged one piece esque version in the true spirit of the original. The most faithful live action adaptation i've ever seen of anything. They really stripped one piece down to its bare bones and focused on the main thread. Staying true to the core essence of what one piece was all about. As a true one piece fan. I believe this is a beautiful and amazing addition to the legacy that oda has given us. I am a slave to comparison so for me this version is near perfect. But that's a damn sight closer than any version of any anime has ever gotten before. A true stand out series in every way. Each actor is an embodiment of the character. This show is a diamond.

Nimona (2023)

A brilliant film. Not for kids.

Call me old fashioned, however the subject matter and mature content as well as the more modernised attitudes the story portrays are far too much for younger audiences. Over all this is a fantastically funny and really well made animation that should be enjoyed by a much older audience. Other than shameful marketing advertising this to an audience too young for its contents. The movie itself is amazing. The character development throughout the movie is very well crafted. The dialogue has been expertly designed to elicit both tears and laughter from the audience. Nimona herself is the life of the movie. Her character is absolutely electric.

Re: Mind (2017–2018)

Very good story

Unfortunately this series doesn't explain itself and relies on the supernatural to clear up all the loose ends. Had this show been longer. I don't believe it would have scored so low. The character development and storylines are in depth for each character and there's a full vivid world here. However between info dumping and plot bombardment. They've left very little to know room for practical explanation of what's happening. So focused on the what. That they left out the why and how. A very clever series that is harmed by its own mystery. The set pieces are very carefully set up but the audience is left with a lack of conclusion.

Redo of Healer (2021)

Borderline Hentai with a plot.

Great story that leans a little too heavily on the sex scenes. Very violent. The sex scenes are effectively softcore Hentai. Only half of which are plot based. Some of it seems like it's there for the sake of being there. Which makes it less of a story and more pornographic. However the storyline itself is strong enough to hold its own and would have done a lot better if they'd toned down the amount of gratuitous scenes to accommodate what was required by the story and the plot. Character development and dialogue are all very well crafted but are sadly let down by the constant need to push the story into sexual territory.

Intergalactic (2021)

British all female reimagined lock out

The script is laughable, so British it hurts. Whoever wrote this was like. Oh I know I'll turn lockout into a TV show led with black women. Upon reading the bad reviews I thought. Oh it's just bigotry. But no. The script is so British. It's apaulling "Shivved" "stitched up" "pig" "fed" and other such British cop hating prison speech.

Most of the script has been Abridged by the F word.

And the rest of the dialogue is just ridiculous.

All characters are just fan fic alterations of their lock out counterparts. Most of the inmates appear to be Angry feminists for whatever reason. Overall this show appears to be a Waste of an opportunity.

No worse than a cheap neeson or Willis flick.

Vagrant Queen (2020)

Brilliant sci fi

Needed a bigger budget for VFX or a much better VFX team. This show has everything a good sci-fi needs. Feels like a cross between firefly, defiance, dark matter and farscape. Can't believe the second season was cancelled. It's a real shame that a show this good is being hated on. The practical effects are severely let down by the visual effects. The script is good. The actors are great. Terrific villain The concepts and story telling are brilliant. It's also very funny. And who doesn't love puns... It's really reflective of our society how shows like this are unfairly picked on for ridiculous reasons.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)

Watch till the end.

So many people attack things without finishing them. This show is hilarious. It's great. The effects team was clearly over worked... But that can be forgiven. True to the she hulk of the comics. Which is important. People in this day and age are spoiled. Unappreciative of brilliant shows. Feels like no one understands the hard work that goes into these anymore. Hate and prejudice seems to proliferate everything you watch now. This show at least allows a break from that.

Hope she hulk gets inducted into the avengers like the comics.. the attention to character detail is great. (horrifying origin story aside.) Why they decided to change the origin story is beyond me. Really hurts the story. But if you can forgive that. It should be smooth sailing. Some real sensational she hulk vibes.

Mahoutsukai Reimeiki (2022)

Light and funny.

Decent enough. Stories good enough to keep entertained and characters are unique enough. Seems to be an unofficial sequel to grimoire of zero. At the very least it wasn't boring.

I Am Groot (2022– )

So I figured that I am Groot would be for kids. I expected it to be light. So when I watched it and there was seriously dark undertones and twisted endings. I was just sat on my couch with surprised Pikachu face.

Wondering.. why? Isnt this for kids?.

Night in Paradise (2020)

I've spent a life watching a large variety of genres. In varying languages. Believe me when I say. This. Belongs on the list with killer, hardboiled, a better tomorrow, bittersweet life, oldboy and eastern promises.

Ms. Marvel (2022)

Would have been better if they'd stuck to the original and hadn't changed both the story and Kamala's powers. Instead of a modernised Feminist Teen superhero I Carly Effort. But pretty decent show for people who don't judge.

Brilliant film... Absolutely hilarious and fantastic. Doesn't abandon the comics or the true spirit of fun! People are way too spoiled and jaded and expect everything to be super serious. Highly entertaining!

We need more movies like this one!

It's a genuine shame. That this film. Is incredibly lack lustre. It just has no pizzazz. An overall good movie that's completely missing the engagement of its audience.

Interceptor (2022)

In the same vein as most last person standing action flicks. Die hard, the rock, under siege. Astronomically cheesy and patriotic. Dancing the line of comedic farce. Reminiscent of 90s movies.

Will probably have been a much better movie if it was Sandra bullock, Hilary swank or Charlize Theron.

If you had told me.. an old actor down on his luck. Had made a movie about being an old actor down on his luck and the plot of the movie was a story about writing the plot of the movie. I would have told you that's ridiculous. But it worked.

Uncharted (2022)

It's a moderately funny, explosive action film. If you enjoyed Uncharted the games. Don't bother. Yet another failed attempt at adapting a video game to a movie. Nolan north appears In the movie in one scene. Just watch that on YouTube and avoid the slog.

Moonfall (2022)

It's Blockbuster entertainment... A concept sorely missed and seemingly lost in this modern era. High Concept complex ideas without substance is the seed to all great entertainment. The audience of today is jaded and spoilt.

Great film. The actress who played Kate was useless but then again most female leads usually are.

Tig notaro was an absolute gem. She stood out in this film. The graphics are... Standard by today but phenomenonal in comparison to earlier films.

The acting was about average of an action movie.

People of today seem to have missed the point of dime a dozen action blockbusters. They are called dime a dozen for a reason. Overall great film.

Super Me (2019)

As a writer myself I am astounded at the profound level of deep thinking Imbedded in this story.

It's a shame that so many amazing movies are lost on audiences incapable of understanding the story.
