Mistresses (I) (2013–2016)
6/10
Enjoyable but not realistic
25 March 2022
I don't know the British version but I just found out this show was on Disney+ and remembered I had started it but never saw seasons 3 and 4. I went back to the start and am currently watching season 2. I'm French and the only thing I can't stop laughing about is the name of April's shop. On the first season, it was called "Maison par la mer", which seems like a litteral translation and doesn't mean a thing in French. I guess someone told them and now it's called "Maison sur la mer" but it's still not right.

Plus the whole plot is not believable. The show is still enjoyable if you don't have anything better to watch and if you like the kind of little music you hear on "Desperate Housewives". It's on all along.

I guess it tends to be the same kind of show but fails trying because the script and the stories are not very suspenseful.

Don't hope to see a new version of the movie
1 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I guess a lot of people watched/will watch this show out of curiosity to compare with the movie. I was 13 when it came out and it was the first "horror movie" I was seeing in a theater. I found it kinda scary at the time. Now, can we compare the show with the movie? Definitely not. The only thing they have in common is the name, period. Is it a problem of generation? No, it's just not the same plot. Is it scary? No, even for a 13 YO. Is it any good? Meh... Not really. Too many useless sex scenes and OMG a twin named Allison!! Doesn't ring a bell? It actually has more in common with shows like "Pretty Little Liars" than the movie it's supposed to be based upon. And maybe I'm getting old but I found every scene to be very dark, even in broad daylight.

Grey's Anatomy: Silent All These Years (2019)
Season 15, Episode 19

Powerful episode
11 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I've just rewatched this episode I had totally forgotten. It's different from the others. Usually, you have doctors running everywhere, people hurting, blood, etc. We had some exceptions through the seasons but this one is really special. Silence is a big part of it, especially the silences between Jo and her biological mother. I like the show but I never really had a favorite character. Now I think it's Jo. Her story made her who she is and in spite of everything she went through, she keeps wanting to help and to believe in others. The topic of rape is not an easy one. I think they did great.

Good but lacks logic
12 April 2021
The story is true and pretty good but the whole thing (I am currently watching the 6th episode) is not logical on a few things. For instance, the languages. Tahar Rahim (Charles), Mathilde Warnier (Nadine) or Stacy Martin (Juliette) are good choices because they're French but why Marie-Andrée (not "Andrèe") isn't a French actress? Or at least a French Canadian? She's neither and, as a French person, I need the English subtitles to understand what she says because she did everything phonetically. From what I've read here, it's the same problem with the supposedly Dutch characters. Why do they talk to each other in English like Charles and Marie-Andrée? Only because the actors are English speaking actors and it's easier for them, so why didn't they chose French or Dutch actors? I don't get it. It's also very hard to keep up with the timeline and the numerous characters.

2 Broke Girls (2011–2017)

The first seasons are great
5 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I've just rewatched the episode in which Caroline can't pronounce "macarons" correctly (sorry but I'm French, I had to say it) and it confirms the feeling I had on the whole show. I really liked the beginning of the show, it really made me laugh, but from season 4 or 5, it's like they were trying too much and the repetitions made the show almost painful to watch. The worst episode for me is the first of season 6, when Sophie is supposed to be giving birth. I really found that one ridiculous. And people shouting every time Sophie comes in, come on! She's not that good and the character becomes more and more unbearable, like all the characters at the end. They tried to make it less predictable but they just made it kinda stupid and took off any natural comedy. I still love Kat Dennings though.

A bit disappointed rewatching it
11 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I was still a teenager when this show was on in France and I'm not even sure I'd seen the whole thing at this time but I remember I'd really liked it. I was a big fan of "Party of Five" and JLH's character then and maybe I was not really objective. Rewatching the first episode, I realize now that it's fine but not really realistic. The girl arrives in New York and bam, in one episode, she finds a place where to live by crashing in Jennifer Garner's apartment as if it was normal, finding people to help her right away or listen to her story and a boyfriend. OK, she lost her luggage but what a day! Those things do not happen in real life. It's like a Christmas movie but worse because you don't expect it. I know it's just a show but I was pretty disappointed. I guess I'm just too much of an old lady and a killjoy now (LOL).

Different perspectives.
17 January 2020
I'm French so I guess I have a different view because I know who Gad is. He really is one of the most famous French speaking comedians and really makes big shows. It's funny because he makes fun of himself, of his own life with his kids (his first son really is a model) and also of Americans through his own vision. It is full of clichés on purpose and on both sides, which makes it interesting.

Gilmore Girls: French Twist (2006)

Not French, bad twist
11 December 2019
OK, how can I say that nicely? I'm French and I'm almost happy to find out this episode is the lowest rated ever. I love Gilmore Girls with all my heart but why did they decide to rebuild Paris in the 70's? Have you seen the cars in those cardboard cut-out streets? It's a shame. If you want to make it realistic, do it properly. And I'm not even talking about what happens in this episode. That does not save the whole bad Paris move at all. This season is really not the best in my opinion.

Pretty Little Liars: Til DeAth Do Us PArt (2017)
Season 7, Episode 20

Quite disappointing
28 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
OK, so I'm almost 34 and French, which means that I was already 27 when it started. Not quite the targeted audience, right? But still, I got hooked from the beginning and I was really looking forward to this ending. I've even been defending the show since the first episode saying "Yes, they are still in high school and it's not very realistic, but there's more to this show than just another teen plot." I was not that wrong... till the end. Why is I. Marlene King so obsessed with twins? Allison and Emily getting twin girls, Jessica and Mary, now Spencer and Alex, please make it stop! This is so easy and not believable at all. OK, twins run in the family, which explains Allison's twins as they're all family in the end, but why so many evil twins all of a sudden? It's like she thought she found something "good" and couldn't stop using it. The idea was not that bad but I would have liked to see more of Alex's appearances, like how many times did she really replace Spencer?Where was the real Spencer during those times? It should have been more focused on AD and how she managed to take Spencer's place. And what about the fake British accent? I really love Troian Bellisario and her acting, but that was pretty bad. The ultimate frustration for me was obviously the very end and Mona's fake French trip. This was so full of clichés!! What about the "béret"?? Seriously?? Have you ever been to France? And that accent, for God's sake! I couldn't have gotten a word of what she said without the subtitles. That was really disappointing. I still love the show and I still admire the writing and the acting, but this end won't stay in memories, or maybe for bad reasons. Nothing's pretty and little anymore.
