How I Met Your Father (2022)
More of the later seasons of HIMYM
Deciding to give the show a fair chance, I am eight episodes into the first season and the sad part is that it is more of the later seasons of the original, which ended up being forceful and un-original. The characters are very shallow, and I personally have grown out of this kind of writing. I hear there is a forced attempt to bring in characters from the original show as well in one or two episodes.
To sum up, this is a very predictable show with not a really clear direction to the plot. Every episode also ends up running three or more sub-plots which end up being lukewarm. I am disappointed in myself for even thinking of giving it a chance.
Kapoor & Sons (2016)
Definitely a very beautiful film!
It took me six years to finally sit down and watch this film and I would certainly like to rate this amongst the highest "mainstream" Bollywood film. The various plot lines interject and crescendo very beautifully to live a lasting aftertaste in the viewer's mind and heart.
Gehraiyaan (2022)
Akin to tides, it ebbs but falls flat.
Gehraiyaan shows promise, and an honest effort, but apart from beautiful visuals and a captivating soundtrack, there isn't much to say about the film once the credits roll. Praise upon the cinematographer, Kausal Shah; Kabeer Kathpalia (OAFF) and Savera Mehta who provided the music, and Nitesh Bhatia for seamlessly editing the film.
Le sommet des dieux (2021)
Beautiful film that's about more than just mountaineering.
I had been really looking forward to this film since I saw its trailer and am delighted how truly "international" this film is. Japanese animation, a story geographically covering Asia and Europe, and brought by a French studio. Beautiful and thought provoking, but also led to an internal fear of missing out the "living" part in my life.
The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)
A self-help film which gets better with each subsequent re-watch.
The story of Chris Gardner transcends time, nationality, and race. I watched it for the first time as a tenth grade student, and while I was impressed by the man's story, it took me another decade to understand the film, having understood the meaning of the titular words "Pursuit of Happiness". It is a must watch for every human being.
Masaan (2015)
Why are we doing all this? Why any of this?
The above question is what the movie leaves me with, every time I watch it. It's hard to come by films, especially mainstream Bollywood ones, which check all the boxes that help make a 'film' into 'cinema', and Masaan manages to fit into all of these defining moulds, and break them successfully.
Without getting much into the plot of the film, Masaan is a story which stays with you for a lifetime, like the greats of The Shawshank Redemption. The film is an extreme closeup of the Indian societal and casteist construct, for both foreign nationals wanting to learn about modern day India, and natives oblivious of the burgeois.
A certain Chekhov's Gun-esque element beautifully blends the stories of the two protagonists.
Watch it once, and the watch it again, because the film leaves you with a feeling of completeness, and nothingness alike.
What If...? (2021)
Average at best!
I was expecting something like DC comics' Tales from the Dark Multiverse, with a darker, grittier setting which goes on to show why there could only be "The One" Earth which is prime, but with this show, the outcomes are more or less the same, regardless of the changes they touted up in trailers.
I was even hopeful to see this somehow being connected to MCU, considering Loki's finale but this really is nothing but a beautifully animated cash grab.
One can binge it for its decent animation quality but it really doesn't have much to offer.
What We Do in the Shadows (2019)
If you liked The Office, you'll love this!
Can't understand why the movie that led to this show, and the show itself are hidden beneath the likes of shows with generic plotlines like Friends, HIMYM and TBBT. If you're a fan of mockumentaries like The Office, this series will fill the void that it has left in your life. The dry humor is on-point and the actors are each very distinct. Love the parallel plotlines and the overarching story in which nothing really changes as compared to shows which boil down to the same hodgepodge. Do watch and review this!

Jojo Rabbit (2019)
I burst out laughing and spat saliva on my keyboard!
What can I say, Taika Watiti just keeps giving one banger after another.
It's a film that takes you through a mockery of history, and yet you feel yourself living it. The style in which the Holocaust is touched, is, and I know it is a cliched adjective these days, but, a masterclass in itself.
Johansson is a delight to look at, as always.
Jojo Rabbit is easily amongst one of the best films of all times list.
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017)
Goosebumps during the last sequence.
Took me so long to finally get down to watching this film, but I did so in one sitting. A great, beautiful (ironic adjective I know) film which truly deserves the accolades it received.
To add, usually I don't like it when writers take 'creative liberties' with the story and change the actuality of the events as they were, but seeing how bleak the actual affair is, and was, it was justified to be done so in this case.
Druk (2020)
Says a lot, and nothing at all.
When I sat down to watch this film, the premise seemed fun, but made me wonder why this simple film was amongst the Academy nominations for the year, and as the plot progressed, it became clear why.
This is a film that will be felt after a certain age, or having gathered a certain number of experiences in one's life. It makes you smile, and pause your own life's story for a minute, and leaves you feeling fulfilled. Great film!
PS - Mads gave a genius performance as always!
Big Little Lies (2017)
Rich housewives with an amazing plot!
The first season has so many feathers in its hat - a stellar star cast of the most beautiful women, a location which is dreamy and exotic, soundtrack which makes you want to Google and play it for yourself, and a great plot that is usually absent in recent shows films and series with a cast this large. I enjoyed every second of it, and so will you.
Great watch with female leads after Mare of Easttown.
Sharp Objects (2018)
Impressive acting with an average plot at best!
I picked it up expecting a plot similar to Mindhunter, and a women-centric narrative, similar to Mare of Easttown. While the trio of actresses have each given great depth to their characters, the plot is average and drags on unnecessarily.
This is not to say that I was expecting an action-thriller as I am fond of the slow-burner genre, but this story has no real depth, with it just being an account of the present lives of the characters.
I had much higher expectations from something Amy Adams stars in, but to reiterate, this is a lukewarm show, with the saving grace being the show's cinematography.
Mare of Easttown (2021)
One word - BEAUTIFUL!
I am a HUGE fan of slow-burning shows, and needed something to binge over and fill the void of True Detective and Mindhunter, and this surpasses True Detective in terms of keeping the script packed.
I was sceptical about Kate Winslet being used to reel viewers in but I was proven wrong as she is a legendary actress, even more so now.
Thank you HBO for this beautiful mini-series. Glad to have things not turned into cash-grabs and mindless sequels post-Netflix era.
Free Guy (2021)
Ryan Reynolds cracked the code!
I really like movies which explore the "video game fourth wall breaking" genre and it took Ryan Reynolds to finally make a successful film out of an intriguing idea.
I've seen Adam Sandler's Pixels, Pixar's Wreck It Ralph, Spielberg's Ready Player One, and I have to say, this has the most satisfying story out of all the movies in this genre that have been made so far.
A great film without any gaping plot holes. Bravo Ryan Reynolds!
The Mandalorian (2019)
Impressive and easy to jump in for non-fans.
I haven't really seen Star Wars and catching up on the large list of films seems impossible to me now, but I decided to give this show a go judging by the hype it generated when it came out - and I was SO impressed. The storytelling reminds me of classic Westerns, which I believe is what made Star Wars a success in the first place. The props are amazing and the technology they used to create this show is currently leading the industry. I recommended it to my friends who were Star Wars noobs like me, and they loved the story, and Baby Yoda even more!
The first two seasons are really perfect and I am optimistic for the coming spin-offs.

Forrest Gump (1994)
Tear-jerking in every chapter.
I saw this movie in 2021 once again to see if it holds up well, and I was crying the same way I did as a boy years ago. A timeless, feel-good film for people all round the globe. There's a reason this is amongst the best of the best films ever made.
Banshee (2013)
Solid 8 barring the last season.
This show has the best pilot episode I've seen till date. Once it takes hold of the reigns, it never lets go of them.
Solid writing from back when shows used to be good, and not cash grabs, which it did turn into one for its last season, which made me strike a point off its rating. Other than that, it is a must watch, solid entertainer for people of all genres.
The Suicide Squad (2021)
DC has finally broken its curse!
With a tightly-knit story where each character gets a decent amount of well spaced screen space, and the viewer receives exposition in bite-sized pieces, this is one of the first few, fresh films from the DCEU which I am very positive about after having seen it.
It's nicely paced and doesn't take itself too seriously (neither is it too comical). Loved the chemistry between Idris Elba and John Cena. Cena is really trying to establish himself as an actor and his efforts bear much better fruit here, than in F9 Saga. Margot is GORGEOUS than ever, and really shines on her own, more so than her "solo" film. Goes to show that an actor is only as good as the script that they get.
Great watch for a fun weekend. All the best DC!
Loki (2021)
Great for fans of the MCU, but offers nothing for a casual viewer.
Before I begin, let me get this out of the way - I am a die-hard MCU fan, & have watched their movies numerous times, and haven't missed any of the Netflix and phase IV shows, and yet, this feels like a long advertisement setting up phase IV, rather than diving into the character's depth like WandaVision did.
The series begins with a strong and emotional moment for Loki, but that doesn't quite lead to anywhere. I really liked how WandaVision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier told great stories along with an apropos commentary on the society, but this one is just a great story and nothing more. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Black Widow for it just being a great story and nothing more, but watching this series felt like it subverted Hiddleston's talents while introducing new characters.
Points to Marvel for trying to portray inclusiveness on-screen in a way that it blends with the story, rather than it being another Disney's virtue signalling schemes.
Black Widow (2021)
People are hating on this unnecessarily while this is easily one of the top five Marvel IPs
Films like this recieving negative reviews is the very reason why production houses don't invest in female-centric movies and instead, push woke films.
This isn't a Ghostbusters or Ocean's reboot but a genuine attempt at telling a good story, with a woman in the front. The woman part comes later, a good story comes first.
You wanted to watch a commentary on the Cold War? Watch an actual documentary, or read a book, this is, was, and will be meant for entertainment. The viewer has to understand that Marvel Studios is now trying to please three generations of movie watchers - children, to reel in for selling merchandise; teens, for future films; and adults, who simply won't stop crying and complaining about everything.
Iron Man, Captain America IS GONE! Come to terms with it!
Speaking of the movie itself - phase IV is really off to a great start. Gone is the forceful, out-of-place humour MCU was criticised for. This film has some genuine moments filled with grief, and joy alike. Also, this film takes the final film of phase I, and flips it on its head, which is a very brave storytelling technique. Come on! Give it a shot, and don't go in with unrealistic expectations, and you'll come out with a few good laughs, genuine tears, and a well-spent time. Isn't that what films are for?
Lupin (2021)
Another Money Heist-esque illogical cash grab.
I picked up the show simply because of Omar Sy but what a huge disappointment this turned out to be. This isn't as illogical as Money Heist, but the getaway techniques and tricks don't make sense here either. We've had enough of shows and films where everyone in the world is stupid except the protagonist.
Sir (2018)
A beautiful haiku grounded in reality!
Tillotama is brilliant as always in this spellbinding film about a girl from rural Maharashtra being "brave" in the urban city of Mumbai. This film can be absorbed and enjoy any time, and in any mood. Do watch it.
