The Captive (2014)
Wrong Sequence
Why show some of the key moments early and out of sequence? They only act as spoilers for later in the film.
Atmospheric enough but spoilt by the spoilers in the actual delivery of the plot.
The Hateful Eight (2015)
A Brilliant Slow Build Western
Typical Tarantino - only better. Up there with Django & Inglorious for slow build tension and plot build as only Tarantino seems able to do.
In his top 3 for me. Highly recommended. Worth the length of the film to invest in the characterisations.
Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector (2020)
Too Quick, Too Convenient, Not Believable
Poor casting and very poor plot lines. Start off each episode as potentially complex and then seem to run out of time.
They then bring up some glib and far fetched solution - Like knowing where Parakeets live in NYC and recognising a logo on an old building etc, to bring the episode to a swift conclusion.
Annoying and lacking any credibility and all over the place. Pathetic really. Cram less in and let the plots evolve, but don't go for a Series 2 please.
Finally, most of the cast are poor. Imperioli in particular is terrible and can't warm to the main female lead at all.
Crashing (2016)
Binged Watched Back to Back
Fantastic find..... Sharp, witty, urban and gritty with a wicked set of characters and some fantastic characterisations too.
Why only the one series. Easily as good as Fleabag (also great).
Phoebe Waller-Bridge is a genius. Highly recommended.
We Hunt Together (2020)
Dark & Interesting
Three episodes in and really enjoying the dark energy of this series.
The main characters are well played and the dynamics work well too.
Recommend watching it - better than many "cop" series on more mainstream channels.
Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool (2017)
A Great Find
Watched because of the cast list and wasn't disappointed. A beautifully crafted film with great performances from Annette Bening & Jamie Bell.
Highly recommended.
