Who Doesn't love Tim Curry/
9 January 2009
I wont say this is the worst film I've ever seen and I understand it is just a movie and you have to stretch your imagination but for a post apocalyptic world it was pretty clean. The young actors gave it a good run but you have to give credit to the fact that Tim Curry makes this movie worth watching. He is so wonderfully over the top in most things but he was a little more subtly over the top in this one. No offense to Dean O'Gorman but what the heck was the narration all about. I guess in stead of showing emotion he was being stoic and explaining it? If I was an eight year old I probably would have thought it was a good movie. It has all the right elements for a great kids movie but it just didn't quite make it

Another Winner from Showtime
8 January 2009
OK I have loved Toni Collete since Muriel's Wedding and have long thought she was an excellent actress that could make you believe that she was actually the person she was playing. She has done a lot of disversified work but I can only say she is brilliant in this show or at least the pilot. She did an excellent job at portraying poor Tara and I for one can not wait for more. Who doesn't like easy going John Corbett? His character is no big stretch yet but he has plenty of room to work on in his reaction to his wife's situation. The two young actors as the children did a presentable job. The only character I had a problem with was the sister. If Tara has suffered since a child why is the sister so dismissive. I can understand anger but whey would she not believe her sister? Again good job Showtime for yet again bringing a show that makes you wait with anticipation for the next episode

People Read Your History Please

I won't say this is the best horror film I have ever watched but it is certainly not the worst either. Interesting story line about the plague doctors (who by the way wore masks shaped like bird beaks to keep plague at bay) and an unknown cult. In this day of conspiracies it is reasonable to think it could have happened. It had some really decent gore in it and is an OK way to spend a couple of hours. I must say Gina Phillips is making a career out of making horror films and most of them have been good enough to watch. Like this one. You have to keep an open mind with most horror films now days and this is definitely worth a quick look when you've got nothing else to watch. I bought in the 2 for $10 bin @ the local big name super store so at least I got my money's worth. And the ending was very interesting

Why can't the directors get the guys to emote!!!
13 December 2007
I've seen better and worse romance movies. This is is about as good as most. Mario Lopez is stunning with his clothes off but come on guys woman are always believable in romance novels because they can look sad and lonely or hurt or in love. It would just be nice if the male leads in these comedy/dramas could make you believe that this person makes them crazy. If you don't believe the guy, you don't believe the movie. Make the kisses just a bit more lingering or the looks a bit more smoldering, especially if you want them to feel real. That being said the cast did an OK job with it. The whole dinner part revelation scene seemed forced but hey, it has a happy ending didn't it?

I really tried to like this one
18 November 2007
I mean I REALLY tried to like this one. I am a sucker for romances( and I mean sucker)and Jenna Elfman can be a great comedic actor but she doesn't seem to be giving it her all in this drama. Randall Batinkoff is just beautiful. Samantha Mathis sings really well and is usually pretty good in these types of movies and then there is the now seemingly ever-present Bruce Davison. With a cast like this you would think what a winner. Sorry it just didn't happen. It's a romance for crap sake and you just don't feel it for anybody. Why does she care? Why does he like her so much? No tension no spark and why did Jenna keep putting her hand over her mouth at the end? If it was to stop herself from screaming I could understand that because I know I wanted to. I mean if you have 90 minutes to waste (and I mean waste) feel free to watch but if you are expecting anything other than something to waste that time with don;t bother.

What the heck was this?
2 September 2007
Maybe I was just not wasted enough for this film. As mentioned in an earlier review the story line sounded very promising. The cast was excellent I mean Andrew McCarthy did an excellent job as usual and Robert Patrick was good and Nick Mancuso can play the crazy as well as anyone and Portia, well she was not at her best(so much better in Arrested Develpement). I kept watching it hoping it would get better. It didn't. I mean come one when you are sneaking across a maniacal doctors compound why would you run right for the spot light? Would you not slink against walls and trees trying not to be seen? Also stated in an earlier review too bad MST300 is not on this would have perfect for it. And come on some FBI guy tells you to stay put and you keep running after him, I'm thinking, not. What happened, no really, what happened?

An Excellent Interstitial
21 July 2007
I dispatch for law enforcement and we would have officers come up to our building every morning to watch this show. After ten to twelve hours of people yelling at us we would sit back and enjoy this excellent farce. We watched this, thought it was excellent in it's stupidity and at 4 in themorning it was something we looked forward to. The episode with the LT going to arrest the elderly lady for shop lifting and her house is littered with air fresheners and her son walks back and forth behind her with suspiciously limb shaped packages just made us laugh. The episode with the drag queen Charlie Brown teaching the only female officer how to put on make-up and walk in high heels was a hoot and who can forget the "ugly baby Dale" sketch. You may have found it boring but at the time it came out (before Reno 911 by the way) it was fun to watch. WE LOVE GORDIEVILLE. Besides the fact it gave our officers some great ideas for practical jokes on each other later.

Not bad even if you have seen it before
14 July 2007
I will agree that Kevin Sorbo has come into his own in the acting arena. He is quite the leading man in the made for television romance field. He does well with the material. In fact everyone one in the film did well with what they had. Cynthia Watros is lovely as usual as the ever present whore with the heart of gold. Nick Chinlund is always good whether he plays good guy or bad guy and what can you say about Wings Hauser. He is always wonderfully psychotic even if he is playing it low key. I got a little annoyed at the dialog between the male and female leads, they just did not have enough together time for me to believe that they were made for each other in that redeemed way these films have. All in all an OK way to spend 2 hours.

Weirdly Watchable
21 June 2007
By no means was this a prefect film, but oddly enough it was very very watchable. The look of the film kind of distracts by its digital look but if it had been filmed any other way it probably would have been noted as bad. The leads were nice looking and the storyline was decent. The sets looked like they were in someones garage but were well done for what they were. The acting was OK. Not as bad as some and the acting could have used a little more rehearsal but the actions scenes were pretty good. Really enjoyed the costume of the main bad guy (girl) Nikki. Well worth a look if you have nothing better to do on a Saturday night.

A Must See
5 June 2007
I just watched this on Sundance Channel today. All I can say is WOW. It makes you really think about not only the language we use in our ever day life but how old words gave rise to new meanings at a time when even being outside when you were not supposed to could get you killed. Victor Klemperer made a wonderfully detailed diary that is brought to the screen with wonderful moments of joy mixed in with the pain and horror of what was happening around him on a daily basis. People ask if you could meet one person from the past who would it be. I would say this man would be a good one to talk to. This was so very well done I can think of no other words to describe it than Thank You!

Tired of Good Shows Getting to Boot Too Early
22 April 2007
This show was Fabulous. It was intricate and well written and all the characters where likable with out being horribly sweet. Even Jonathan Cake the philandering boyfriend was likable. Since our airwaves are filled with crap like American Idol and Dancing with the Stars, it was nice to see a drama that was not too soap opera like. It was always intriguing to see how each character would be connected to the next circumstance. It really is annoying that we finally get a show that makes you think a little bit and have it thrown out because of some mysterious number that most of us don't even pay attention to. Some of us are not sheep. This show will be missed maybe not by a lot of people but by some pretty loyal fans.

As long as the men are believable
22 April 2007
I have never been a huge fan of Janine Turner. Most of her movies are palatable though. Jamie Sheridan makes this film. If you can watch a romance movie and believe the male actors in it then you have a great movie. In romance films we always believe the female because they are the emotional ones. Hal Holbrooke is his usual wonderful self and this movie is one that if you like romances you could watch more than once. The scenery is lovely and being a huge fan of age old Beauty and the Beast story. This is a pretty good one. Janine Turner turns in her usual sweet performance and I loved the name of his dog. Good job to all involved.

Good even if you have read the books.
18 March 2007
I must say I am a huge fan of the novels and who would not say that Kyle Schmid is one of the most lovely young men I have ever seen. I even thought so in that dreadful straight to video horror movie he made that he would be someone to watch and now he has his own series. Christina Cox is lovely and has also done other outstanding film work and Dylan Neal helps to round out an almost too beautiful cast. The show is actually very good and with any luck will be around a couple of years. It has a nice little bit of three way tension going, but let us hope it is not like a lot of shows that either give us too much or too little depending.

Sex in the City for woman who hate shopping
8 December 2006
I must say that this show is refreshing. It moves along at a good pace with excellent writing and the ensemble cast does a really good job. Though I am not as much a sports enthusiast as Jordana Spiro's character I must say I "get" her character way more than some of the other "females with friends" shows. It is nice to see a show about an attractive female that is not a clothes horse or obsessed with shoes. Also I love Kyle Howard and have since he starred in House Arrest. The rest of the cast is just as wonderful to watch. The writing is witty and well done and I hope this show lasts for a little while. It is nice to see a show about inter-relationships when the girl has a lot of guy friends that are friends. That really does happen you know.

Probably never watch it again
5 December 2006
If it was not for Ed Asner, the guy who played the brother in law and the scenery this movie would not be worth it in any shape or form. The two leads are so wooden it is unbelievable. What should have been a heart lifting beautiful praise to all the armed forces rings about as warm as that lump of snow your brother used to shove down the back of your neck. Did these guys do any type of practice sessions for any scene in this film? I am a sucker for these type of films and usually give them the benefit of the doubt and will usually record them and watch them over and over. But once was ENOUGH!!! Please someone do a little rehearsal before you film it and say cut.

How did Veronica Mars make it and not this?
6 September 2006
As others have noted in these comments why is it that studio execs keep putting reality show dreck on? I have never watched survivor, the bachelor or any other "reality" show drivel. Since really those shows are for the average person to have their 15 minutes of fame and since most of them are self centered idiots (at least that is what the commercials show them as) why would a rational, thinking person ever watch it. If you want to watch a reality show watch The Soup and you will get the best parts of it anyway. This show was very well put together and if you had watched the Jennifer Lopez/George Clooney vehicle Out of Sight you would have gotten a little bit of background on her character. This could have been an excellent series. This and Ms Gugino's other series Threshold (way, way better than Invasion even though that has William Fichter)I don't get it. Two series that she has been in and both well done and what do the networks do? Please someone slap them for those of us that would like a little bit of thinking behind out entertainment.

Whether You Like Shakespeare or not SEE THIS MOVIE
6 September 2006
If nothing else this movie should be viewed for the outstanding visuals. The photography is stunning the sets are fantastic and the actors can not be beat. (Sir) Anthony Hopkins is in his element as the eventually driven insane Titus and Jessica Langes as the vicious Goth queen is breathtaking. This is the movie that made me an Angus McFadden and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers fan. I have now made a point of seeing almost everything they have been in. Their performances in this film justify viewing even their worst efforts. And there is always the wonderful Alan Cummings. The cast, the look of the film. Well pretty much everything about is well worth it. Shakespeare has been done before and will be done over and over again but this version will stand out due to the imagery. The new versions of Shakespeare have nothing on this one. (Romeo and Juliette not withstanding. Try it sober or on something and it will BLOW YOU AWAY!!!!

Not based in any type of reality but.....
31 August 2006
Visually this movie is absolute stunning and the acting in it is top notch. Costume dramas, when done well, are really good pieces of escapism. My only problem is, as with most of Hollywoods productions, it is not true to history. Though it does make for an interesting story the Marquis actually died in his home with a very young wife many years later. It is the same problem I had with the Demi Moore vehicle The Scarlet Letter. Why does Hollywood insist on this since it does not necessarily enhance the story? As for this film, the temptation of all is well performed and eloquently established and this is a solid film for everyone involved.

This has the best one liners EVER!!!
30 August 2006
Warning: Spoilers
The first time I saw this was as a teenager and now 20 years later it is still just as funny. Tommy Smothers, Carol Kane, a very young Judge Reinhold, and the young man that became Jimmy Olsen in the 1970 version of Superman Marc McClure. If you want a to spend a little time with a movie that is laugh out loud funny and makes you want to take a milk bath (chocolate chip cookies included) then this is the film for you. It is a true culmination take off of all the really good horror movies that you know and love. This movie is also billed as one of Paul Rueben's(Peewee Herman) movies. Tab Hunter as the killer is awesome and who wouldn't like a piece of the furniture produced by the inmates at the hospital. Well, worth a look see especially for those Canadian Mounties!!!

Why is it when we finally get a good show they cancel it
30 August 2006
I wonder why it is here in America that when ever we get a decent show the idiot networks cancel it. Everything from Harsh Realm to American Gothic. Shows that are witty and well written and you actually enjoy watching. Instead we get the Americanized versions of reality shows (and yes the European versions are usually a whole lot better). This show was in now way perfect but was moving along at a very nice pace and could have been really good if they had just finished it. I do not understand why corporate execs think that we here in this country can not think on our own and when we finally get a show that might be even the tiniest smidgen of controversial (especially with religious overtones) the networks yank it. I understand the this is a Christian (haha) country but gives us a break. Those of us that actually like to keep an open mind do not seem to get a break from the rest of the country. PLEASE Give us good TV for a change.

Watch this only for piñata vision
20 August 2006
I must say as a true fan of the B movie I really was expecting this to be a really bad movie and was not disappointed in any way. It was just drek the only reason we watched it was because all of the reviews were so bad that we thought it would be fun. Unless you are on the most premo stuff of any sort you can find it is not worth it except for the piñata vision. That has to the best part of the whole movie and I am talking about a movie with a lot of half naked people running around it. It would have probably been better if we had some type of hallucinogen. The monster is odd and the effects are juvenile. I can't say that you should never watch it but we can say we won;t catch it a 2nd time unless we are just so messed up we can not change the channel.

You gotta love the X-FIle writers
20 July 2006
I watched this show for 2 reason Jensen Ackles and the fact that it is written by the same folks who wrote X-files. I watched X-Files until it ended and the scripts in this show are just as well written and all 3 male leads are very attractive. The shows are fast paced and have just enough actual supernatural background to give it that intellectual twist. I hope this show lasts half as long as the files did. The only problem we ever had with the X-FIles is the sub plot with the cigarette smoking man, there for season or two that was all you heard about. It is OK to bring it up once every 3 or 4 episodes but the harping on the conspiracy got a little old. Let's hope they keep up the good work with this show and give us lots of good of good scares. All we can say is so far so good

Nobody makes 'em like Sid & Marty Did
10 May 2006
This was the kind of show as a child you would actually miss one of those Disney programs for (we are talking about the '70's).From Sigmond the Sea Monster to Dr Shrinker. The cheese factor is immense but that is what made Sid & Marty Krofft productions. Who could every forget Electra Woman and Dinah Girl? Good for you Deidre Hall (pre Days of Our Lives) and who could forget Billy Barty as the evil Dr Shrinker's poor sidekick. This was what Saturday morning cartoons where all about. Between this and the Banana Splits you had a great set of cartoons and shows. Now what are kids watching... Bratz?!?! These shows will be missed as much as the amusement park those boys based their shows on.
