The Elegant Gentleman's Guide to Knife Fighting (2013)
Comedy on the Edge
Finally, edgy comedy that goes beyond what's safe and expected. I haven't seen anything this brilliantly funny since Python or 70's SNL. I found myself say, 'oh no they didn't' or 'oh no they aren't', only to respond 'oh yes they did'. The Prius skit, the terrorists in first class, yes those were unforgettable, but the British naming of the islands had me gasping for air and wiping tears from my eyes. So simple, yet so beautifully composed and performed. I purchased the series so I can watch it whenever I want or need to. So many shows labeled 'comedy' are just not funny at all. Treat yourself tonight to your next guilty pleasure.
The Terminal List (2022)
Loved the book
Disappointed they took out the Killary character. They did manage to keep the main elements of the story though. I have the utmost respect for Pratt for making this series.
Patriot (2015)
Funniest Thing I've Seen
I've never laughed so hard at a modern show. Plus it's educational. I would have never known about the plight of the accordion children in Paris if I hadn't watched this show.
Oldboy (2013)
Weird Incest Movie
Is Netflix trying to justify or normalize incest? The actors did a fantastic job, the script was ok. At least in Angel Heart they weren't trying to make a sick statement that anyone could fall in love with and have sex with their child.
I, Frankenstein (2014)
Fun Storytelling
Picks up where Shelley leaves off. Digital animation was outstanding. It's particularly important now that Notre Dame is destroyed. I played the scenes with the cathedral over many times, thankful to have a visual representation of the most amazing and beautiful man made creations.
Overlord (2018)
Fun Flick
Not to much gore. Decent actors. Great dialogue. Not the best last couples of scenes. Terrible rap music at the end, completely out of era.
Death of a Nation (2018)
Content A+
The book's content is outstanding research, the movie tries to hit the main points.
Spectre (2015)
Entirely too little of Monica Bellucci
I was lead to believe that Monica was going to be his love interest. I was disappointed that not only was this not the case. And why so few scenes? She was pictured in all of the promotions, but barely had three scenes.
This was very deceptive marketing. I would not have paid good money to see an old man make out with a twenty something girl. I really have nothing against Daniel's age or him being Bond. I just thought this was going to be a different movie than it was.
Here is an idea for the sequel, have him go to the US to check on Monica. Last we saw he gave her the number for an American embassy friend. Then have him expose the corrupt government/corporate American networks. Like a Bond version of Shooter or Jack Reacher. Bond fighting American corruption would be a good comeback.
