Utopia (2020)
Shame
I understand the writer wanted to make this her own and being a massive fan of Sharp Objects I was ready to be inthralled by a remake of my favourite show.
The simple things they changed made all the difference...Bejan, Dugdale, Jessica Hyde as a comic book star. That alone took away all the mystery of the original opening set up. Where Is Jessica Hyde? We didn't know! But oh wait her she is in the first episode stinking the joint out.
Original Jessica was mysterious and creepy but someone who you could empathise with and root for. This one pisses standing up and cries in the cupboard. She's written and played terribly.
Not interested in going past the four episodes I've watched!
Utopia (2013)
Out of no where!
Atmosphere, colour pallet, tension, characters, good guys, villains, ideas bursting out! This should have ran for two more series to really expand on the ideas of this show. Just amazing. I love whole idea behind it and how it links with real world theories and conspiracies, it's fantastic. English countryside fields have never looked so good.
C4 didn't throw any kind of advertising behind this when it was on. This should have been their crown jewel. IF it was on Netflix today it would have been huge. I hope HBOs remake stays true to what made the original so powerful and unmissable.
You (2018)
Not the show to take dating tips from
The whole premise of this show gives young men like this ammunition to think their creepy actions are acceptable in pursuing women. The main character didn't have enough Dexter about him and I didn't buy either of his two sides. The leading girl wasn't worthy of his attention and the whole thing made me cringe.
