where's Hicks when you need him?
3 October 2017
I waited for so long to see this (library list was massive) Thank goodness I did NOT fork over $$$ to see it. One dimensional characters and stupidity beyond belief by those who supposedly were in command. I will not even bother to cover details about what part was more offensive. I am frankly shocked this was the best Scott could do RIP ALIEN (BTW I figured out that it was NOT Walter in the last dying moments of this turkey)

Life (I) (2017)

a yawn
11 September 2017
Too predictable. #1 never bring an alien life form aboard a ship That thing should never have been brought aboard and if Derry was dumb enough to do it, it should have been jettisoned. First order of business for any captain is protecting crew and ship but guess if she/he is a 'scientist' too dumb to realize that. Derry was right, it was ALL his fault. He got off easy compared to the rest of the crew Finally, I knew how it would end and it did not disappoint

Article 99 (1992)
real facts
5 August 2017
I lay on a gurney in a passageway of the local VAMC ER & two doctors passed by and one asked the other "Have you seen Article 99?" "NO" "It was about vets who take over a VA because of care provided...It was hilarious." I had to bite my tongue to not shout "YOUR attitude is reflective of too many who work in VA...DOKTOR"

My mother's brothers, who were combat vets, said they would not enter the local VA because they did not to be carried out feet first I am convinced many 'physicians' in VA are there because they cannot do anything else.

I find it interesting that many on here apparently feel just entertainment and 'what a classic,' For men and women who have served it is not entertainment, nor is it classic. It is a reality.

Arrival (II) (2016)

Thank God I did not pay for this......
31 May 2017
I waited a long time for this turkey to arrive at my local library but found myself fighting to stay awake.. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ Muddled, hackneyed mess best describes a story which began with some interest for me having worked as an English instructor & a translator in Turkey This story kept changing direction and never mind the poor cinematography which featured a lot of dark, hazy footage I gather to make us think U R HERE!!! (oh wow) Makes me wonder if what I saw was same as many here who rave and I just checked Rotten Tomatoes which gave it a 93% approval A waste of Adama and Renner..and a waste of time and thankfully not $$$$

Pete's Dragon (2016)

There be dragons....
24 January 2017
I was first introduced to dragons in school but they were the medieval type and then later as a teen to Asian variety For this little child what a life, his world turned upside down, literally and then later logging brought him to civilization. What a delightful film and Elliott so protective e.g. that scene at the crossing when Pete runs to him and Elliott takes him in his paws in such a protective way. It was an authentic mill scene too..I grew up around mills, logging (mom's side) and as I watched the film where they were at the mill I could almost smell it..... I have always thought there be unseen things in the forests of the Pacific NW besides Big Foot >;-)

Really good film.....liked it a lot
7 January 2017
I read the Burrough's books when I was a kid and visualized Tarzan very similar to Alexander Skarsgard...long lean musculature, dirty blonde hair and light eyes... It is fiction so unsure what the person who reviewed it with 2 stars expected but it fit my need, just as Burrough's books did. I am glad that the character of Jane was feisty and not some wilting violet which would have really annoyed me as that bubble headed bimbo in Indiana Jones Temple Of Doom whose dialog seemed to be OMG OMG Finally, I have traveled to Africa and when they say you are never the same again, they were right This film brought back many memories of Africa. It is a beautiful country..people, culture...all of it.

absolutely loved this..........
17 December 2016
I was delighted by the original film as it set up the opener for Through The Looking Glass...but what I particularly found fascinating in Looking Glass was the sequence on time and the Chronometer.... And speaking of, what made me LOL was the scene at the Hatter's tea where they were pestering 'Time' with quotes about time..... ***chuckles*** I also loved the end where her mother becomes part of the crew of Wonder. Finally, I was deeply touched by the scene where Hatter assured Alice they would meet again in memories and dreams. It is in memories and dreams I do same with loved one who are now no longer with me...... Altogether a delightful film and something for everyone.. My favorite character is Hatter followed by his tea party mates..

Change of Plans (2011 TV Movie)

truly predictable
16 January 2011
It became clear from the beginning that it was ALL about her, PERIOD. There was no chemistry between Flanigan and White....... The bedroom scene was even more tidied up than fifties TV series, other than sleeping in twin beds........... I did not expect any sort of graphic intimacy, but what I did expect was some sort of romance between this young married couple other than an occasional platonic peck on the check. Finally, their home was as sterile as their relationship which just added to the boredom factor. I am frankly deeply disappointed as I had much higher hopes. Just hope this turkey does not make it to a series, because as much as I love Joe Flanigan, I just don't think I could suffer through anymore. BTW don't write off the above by saying "its family entertainment after all" because that does not wash. There have been really good examples of family viewing and this is not one of them.

Troy (2004)
amazing rendition.......
15 May 2004
I went to TROY despite my personal feelings about Pitt in the lead role and was not disappointed to see that he turned out to be the dud that I had expected, much like Cruise in THE LAST SAMAURAI, and seeing his bare bum did nothing to enhance my feeling.......yet there were redeeming qualities despite the fact that they cast Pitt as Achilles. I found myself hoping, altho I know only too well what happened to the city of Troy, that the Trojans would win.....as they were so much more interesting than the Greeks......LOL......I think that Eric Bana as Hector was a thousand times more interesting than Pitt and also found Sean Bean as Odysseus more interesting.....I almost hoped that Pitt, and his motley brigade, would somehow be cut down as they hit the beach ahead of the others....why people have complained about Bloom is amazing to me.....he portrayed a young and very inexperienced prince of Troy......but in the end showed his goods when he took out Achilles with his bow and arrows, thanks to LOTR training.....lol....they cast the perfect personality for Paris....altho why anyone would see Helen as worth starting a war is amazing to me. The cousin, sorry cannot remember her name, of Hector and Paris was more watchable than Helen at her best..battles were interesting especially when the Trojans rolled the bails of hay or whatever they were down the hill into the Greek camp......I found NONE of the Greeks, but Odysseus of any interest......half way thru the film I was wondering if the director intended for me to feel that way??????.......the part about them finding the horse and looking at the leftovers on the beach apparently loaded with plague.....what kind of mind drags a horse, that came from a plague infested camp, into a city???????

Amazing in many ways.......
26 March 2004
I very reluctantly came to view the first installment, Lord of the Rings, Fellowshp of the Rings, and during the first hour it immediately picked up my interest for a number of reasons. At the end of the first film, Frodo Baggins packs up his companion, Samwise Gamgee, and they are off in a boat. I realized then that it was not enough to leave them on their own, but I wanted to find out what would happen not only to these two Hobbits but the rest of the characters who I had come to like very much. Yesterday I rented Twin Towers and was going to watch an hour only, but LOR is very much like eating popcorn..... once you start it is hard to stop.

I am writing not so much to speak of what happened and about the way it was directed and the actors who were involved, but the way the story affected me personally. Let me give you just two examples. In the scene where Gandalf the White comes into the grand hall to try to resurrect Theoden, the king of Rohan. When he is finally able and Theoden comes out of this spell and is restored, I cried. My mother, for the final four years of her life was robbed like the king.........only hers was not a spell it was Parkinsons...... How I wish I could have had someone come in and do that for her.......to restore her...... In the scene where the stronghold is being overrun by the forces of evil, the character Haldir, is fatally wounded and Aragorn comes to him in his dying moments, to try to bring some comfort. I was reminded of how many are dying just like that in Iraq and the many others who have in the past suffered the same consequences as a result of war. My sister placed a perspective this morning on the emotions I felt, as I watched Twin Towers, by saying that Tolkien envisioned this when he wrote this epic.....of the many struggles, the sacrifice, the nobility that is shown in the face of overwhelming odds. I am hopeful to see the final installment this weekend.

I believe this is in fact the greatest epic that has ever been done on film.
