The Shape of Water (2017)
Breathtaking movie with a heartwarming love story!
If I told you about her, what would I say? That they lived happily ever after? I believe they did. That they were in love? That they remained in love? I'm sure that's true. But when I think of her.. of Elisa.. the only thing that comes to mind is a poem whispered by someone in love hundreds of years ago. Unable to perceive the shape of you, I find you all around me, your presence fills my eyes with your love! It humbles my heart, for you are everywhere!
This films was 2 hours of my life that will never ever be repeated. A stunning love story of a lonely woman who falls in love with a sea monster. A love so true, so humble, so rare, so uneasy and yet so beautiful! Two God's creatures find themselves falling in love, this is a story of a magical and real love under unreal circumstances. I'm so touched and so emotional that words are hard to describe, but they come flowing.
This is an adult fairytale that will take you into a great adventure. This film is for dreams and anyone in love can relate to it.
Winner of 2 Golden Globes for best directing and score by Alexander Desplat, this movie is definitelt worth watching! It will take your breath away!
Café de Flore (2011)
One of the very best Canadian films I've seen!
This film was recommended to me by my classmate which made me very eager to watch. Firstly I need to stay how big fan I'm of Canadian cinema, especially of the mastercraft work that creates Denis Villeneuve and Xavier Dolan. These two personalities are my greatest idols. "Café de Flore" is truly a story about the power of love. There are two kinds of love in this movie: love between a man and a woman and love of a mother to her son. I particularly liked the storyline about the mother and her son. She had to raise her son on her own because of his Down's syndrome. She encourages her son to learn everything despite the fact that kids with a Down's syndrome were discriminated in that era and often sent to Institutions (their story takes place in 1967). There was this particular line of a man saying "Do you believe in soul mate? That there's somebody made for you. If it's a soul mate, it's not supposed to end, that it's not supposed to happen twice" even though he leaves his wife for another woman. I liked this scene because I figured with this line director wanted to address the audience. The flashbacks in the film may confuse you, therefore you have to follow closely and pay attention to every detail. That's why I think this movie is not for everyone. Music plays an integral part in this movie as it describes the depth of the scenes. Music is used beautifully as the characters are being progressed. But I have to disagree with what the lead character had to say – that a man understands music more than a woman does. Women are great at contemplating modern music and even more know great deal about it. This film carries a strong message: that all that happens has a reason, that leap of faith can take you anywhere. In one word: this film is beautiful, haunting and very intense! This is one of those movies that will stay with you long after you watched it. You will feel the tension coming out of it while watching binding emotional themes and how two stories develop with help of the background themes. All in all it was a unique rewarding film experience for me. The ending said it all!
Enough Said (2013)
A beautiful comedy full of liveliness!
What got my attention about this movie was firstly James Gandolfini – an actor whom I admire and respect. He passed away few years ago, but he left behind so many unforgettable characters and this film is a sweet note before his untimely death. His movies always touch my heart and one of the reasons I watch him acting is because of his great and rare talent. Now about this movie. It's very entertaining to watch. Rest assured that your time will not be wasted. You'll have a good laugh as the movie has very funny moments. Perhaps younger generation will avoid watching it, since it's more fit for older generation to watch. Many would say that this movie appeal to older crowd. The realistic conversations and situations will definitely hold your attention. The movie deals with a daily life of middle-aged people who have a lot in common i.e. kids who leave for college and both have gone through divorce. They meet at the party and by co- incidence the man she pursues to date turns out to be her new friend's ex-husband. I would address this movie to all people with different ages as this film will give you a better perspective of life in general. If you're tired of all this new fantasy, sci-fi, Hollywood action blockbusters, this is the movie for you! Actors completely lost themselves in their' roles. Acting was really great! Charming and sweet! This movie will stay in your memory for a long-term. The script and cast is so marvelous that you'll love every scene of it. I rate it 7/10.
Fasle kargadan (2012)
Worth-watching!
Represented by my all-favorite director and producer Martin Scorsese who actually doesn't need any introduction, comes Iranian film debut - Rhino Season by Kurish-Iranian director Bahmad Ghobadi. Ghobadi left Iran in 2010 and never returned.
Starring Monica Bellucci, Turkish living legend Yilmaz Erdogan and Behrouz Vossoughi's first film after 20 year of absence in the big screen, this movie is what I call pure Masterpiece! I know most of the people won't agree with me, but this film has this Nuri Bilge Ceylan's style which I admire so strongly. It's slow paced drama that covers Iranian revolution and a love story that faces hardships and tragedy as a result of this revolution.
Shot entirely in Turkey, the movie follows the ordeals of Sahel, a Kurdish-Iranian Poet, whose poems were misconstrued by the post- revolution regime of Iran as political, and landed him in jail for 30 Years. After he is released from jail, he travels to Turkey in search of his wife (played by Monica Bellucci) who is now remarried. Movie also stars some of the well-known young actors like Beren Saat and popular singer in Europe – Arash Labaf. The acting in this movie is phenomenal, especially by Belucci who speaks decent Farsi and demonstrates the ideal Iranian lady.
The film shows the consequences of 30 years' absence of a husband who was thought to be dead and a story of a woman who was trapped from the beginning. The ending of the movie is left entirely up to the viewer. What amazes me the most that Rhino Season was independent production on low budget and none of the actors including Monica Bellucci were paid for their work. Nonetheless, the movie turned out to be remarkable! It is a pity that this movie has not been exposed to a wider audience.
Note: If to compare, this movie doesn't come close to other Iranian master-crafts like "A Separation" which was directed by Ashgar Farhadi and won an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film category back in 2012. Nevertheless, this movie has a message to the audience who will understand it.
Note: Bahman Ghabodi's another known film "Nobody Knows About Persian Cats" was shown in Cannes Film Festival in 2009 which is also worth watching.
In one word: for someone who enjoys political dramas like "Argo" or "Munich", this movie will catch your attention easily.

Every viewer may expect everything from the show. Cause anything can happen. This is what makes it so incredibly exciting to follow. Each episode is assured to be thrilling and captivating to watch. For those who will start watching it: it's so perfect and entertaining that you will be craving for more! This is a series that stays true to the book. The depth, the complexity and drama is very well captured in the Series. It's very rare nowadays to see the film adaptation which is so close to the book. It's remarkable indeed.
