Space Force (2020)
Actually quite good and political aspects not an issue
First thing, this does make fun of Trump. But it does so in a playful way, because it makes fun of him in ways everyone can agree. For example at one point the Space Force Commander get a text from POTUS after being denied a conjugal visit that says "Sex is for WINNERS!" That is so totally something Trump would do.
Its not overly hilarious (sometimes it is) but is has a good story line.
The only thing I would have done differently is to make Steve Carrel's character a bit more outlandish/silly. A bit more Michael Scott if you will
The Outsider (2020)

Amazing movie, not over the top but enough raw emotion to make you care about people. Good story, good acting...a great rewatchable. Michael Bay at his best
Watchmen (2019)
I almost skipped this because of the bad reviews!!
So glad that I gave it a chance because it is a great watch. Very well made, intriguing and creates a totally immersive alternate reality! Great characters! And I love the slow building of the story/backstory as well as the alternate world. Each episode you learn new and interesting things that add layers of complexity to their world.
I understand why many anti-PC viewers saw the pilot and thought this was a show made by hollywood liberals. I can assure you that its not. It is good science fiction and the fact that they touch on some classic liberal tropes (white nationalism/racism) does not detract from the story/sci-fi.
I recommend everybody give it a try for at least the first three episodes and you'll see that the Watchman universe is alive and well!
The Red Sea Diving Resort (2019)
Very Solid Movie
Not sure why the low ratings. Movie is well made. Script, direction and acting is very good. It won't win an Oscar but definitely worth an evening's viewing. Reminds me of Blood Diamonds.
Another Life (2019)
Pretty Bad
So I watched this after seeing the negative reviews so my expectations were rock bottom going in. I figured it can't be that bad.
Unfortunately it is as bad as every one says.
First the Good:
- Justin Chatwin is great
- Katee Sackhoff brings it for this role, but unfortunately her dramatic acting is totally juxtaposed by the acting of the saved by the bell crew.
The Bad:
- Terrible writing - unconvincing, corny, wooden at times
- Bad Sci-Fi - The central sci-fi plot of a world altering mysterious alien encounter goes nowhere. We just are not made to understand or care that this is a big deal. It just seems like a poor excuse to get some people traveling on a ship. Also, very little effort to explain the sci-fi parameters of the world we live in: no explanation of the technology or science behind what is happening. Also there is not immersion factor for people being in space.
- Bad Plot: Things just happen without much sense or logic. Characters do not drive the plot in any way. They are just there to execute the plot.
- Bad Characters - the crew of the ship is laughable. They basically put the cast of a mediocre teen drama on a spaceship trying to save humanity. These people are shallow, immature, unprofessional, incompetent...but unlike the misfit astronauts in Armageddon, they are totally unlikable. Its not that you don't care about them...you actually don't like them.
- Bad special effects - personally I don't care too much about this aspect as I've seen plenty of good sci-fi with mediocre effects, but for those who care - its not good.
I feel bad for poor Katee Sackhoff who I am a big fan of. She does her best but can't save this horrible space opera.
Game of Thrones: The Bells (2019)
Visual Masterpiece, although weirdly told
This was by far one of the greatest visual episodes. The emotion was full and clearly visible. The plot armor was not as existing. The writing was not as good, but this is not the directors' fault. Think about it, the author released the first book in the year 1996 or something like that. The fifth was released in 2011. Book seven is supposed to be season seven and eight! Although season six and seven are great and full of wonder, season eight is lacking just a tiny bit! Not a "tiny bit", but it was better than all haters say.
To answer questions:
Was plot armor a big thing?
Yes, it was, but it has never annoyed anyone before season eight. Although in this episode it doesn't show.
Was the writing lacking?
Yes, it was. Although it wasn't the fault of the directors, but of the author.
Was it visually good?
Mostly, it was a very pleasing sight. Episode three was a little rough though.
Could it have been better?
Yes, it could have.
Are a lot of the haters people who read the books and who think this needed more logic?
YES! (at least I think so.....) Just because you read the books doesn't mean that we needed all your theories. (fanboys and fangirls...BACK OFF!// just joking here)
Overall, I think people are being too harsh on season eight. You expected more. That's understandable. But these were episodes full of some hard scenes to shoot. Maybe the quality is a little rocky, but the episodes are by far the most important.
Hope you found this helpful! <3
Game of Thrones: The Long Night (2019)
A balanced review, 5 days later
First I need to explain all the terrible reviews you are seeing and why the overall score for this episode is so low despite it being one of the signature episodes of the series. In short, this was a major letdown for those who have read the books because they contain a lot more lore and legend which promised a bigger reveal surrounding the night king story arc. Search youtube and you will see some really deep dives into what could happen. The show runners never went that way and left the white walkers as medieval zombies...no motives, no goals, just death. I think the bad review largely reflect this aspect. People were expecting a greater reveal. In fact most of these folks thought the night king would not die this episode. If u just watched the show I think u were more realistic on this end and were pretty sure this was the episode where we find out how the night king dies.
Second, the direction. Dark, cloudy, hard to see, lots of confusion. Fair criticism. There were also bright spots, most notably the end and how they built up towards it.
Third, the ending. I thought it was epic. I expected it because they had left so many breadcrumbs. It was always clear that a military victory was not possible so it was always going to be about a sneak attack to shank the night king. Arya's story arc has built towards this so I thought it was fitting and somewhat expected.
Finally, there are deserved criticisms: stupid dothraki charge/stupid military strategy, bran being useless, dark/confusing cinematography and i thought the music could have been better. On the other hand they were masterful in manipulating our emotions which was their stated goal. Ultimately it was an epic episode nonetheless. I've come to appreciate it more with more viewings. I was a 7.5 on the first viewing but that has grow on me to a 9.
I understand the complaints people have but to be honest this was a nearly epic episode.
A Series of Unfortunate Events (2017)
This show is AMAZING!
I loved this so much that I spent an entire day watching the third season! I mean this figuratively, not literally...LOL
Pod Save America (2017)
More Campaign Rally Than TV Show
I listen to the Pod Save America and have been listening to these guys since Keepin in 1600. This plays much worse than that because the audience gives huge applause after every sentence even if there's nothing all that interesting said.
The format is all wrong. They should be doing is without an audience.
