Why Cheat India (2019)
Emraan Hashmi leads this half-researched & clumpsy film.
Learnings:
A film about a city con-man Rakesh Singh (Emraan Hashmi) into the world of education system by skillfully taking advantages of its flaws to create his own cheating mafia. He tricks intelligent students to appear on behalf of other rich but undeserving brats to fetch them their required seats in exchange for a hefty sum. Over-taken by greed, Rakesh lays a pitch-perfect ground for turning his plans into reality, only till the day when he may get trapped in his own web of immoral administration.
All this sets a great premises having heart in the right place & starts off on an impressive note.
Questions Paper Difficulties (Details):
Contrary to expectations, Why Cheat India turns out to have way more problems than positives; something that could have been very sharp, witty & satirical, falters at the hands of a choatic execution & muddled screenplay (the scenes seems to be running faster than Usain Bolt probably).
The actual dealings (lena-dena) turn out in quick sucessions, be it with the students, parents, politicians or the corrupt businesmen, without lending the viewers no or little time to empathize with any one character or to breath between the various jumps. Instead of really digging down the core of the whole system & exposing the malice practices of the institutions & its people, unfortunately the films tries to be too much all at once, ends up saying nothing and therefore falls flat.
Answer Sheet (Performances):
As usual, Emraan Hashmi turns out the BEST part about his films. He is at ease & confident playing neither the hero nor the villain. His electrifying aura and wicked smile leads an instant connect. Shreya Dhanwanthary is sweet & puts up a nice performance, especially towards the climax. I have no idea what Shibani Bedi (the iDiva famed Punjabi girl) is doing here. Rest of the cast is simple.
Few dialogues are pretty good, but the songs & romantic track overshadow in the second half making the pace dip. By the time it shows us the big reveal, the film has already lost the momentum.
Final Result (Conclusion):
With no recognisable faces or majorly entertaining moments, Director Soumik Sen who previously gave us the decent Gulaab Gang back in 2014, doesn't impress in any department whatsoever. We deserve better as an audience & Emraan as a fine actor.
Exam Score (Rating): 2.5 out of 5
It's a One-Man show (Just a Timepass)
Mulk (2018)
TERRIFIC & MIND-BLOWING!
TERRIFIC & MIND-BLOWING! Director Anubhav Sinha has hit a six out of the stadium. A film that will be remembered and loved by all (sensible people) equally. Electrifying performances with full dose of Entertainment, Mulk shall jolt the audience & be alive in discussions for a very long time.
Mulk is a story about a man (Rishi Kapoor) who has to fight the society & the law, deal with the terrible aftermath of being labelled a traitor due to one black spot in the family (Prateik Babbar) just because they belong to the Muslim community. The film successfully offers a very balanced perspective on how non-Muslims generally have a prejucide towards 'them'.
Mulk discusses terrorism in a much broader sense. It will make you uncomfortable, pinch your conscious & answer some very important questions without being diplomatic or beating around the bush. The SHARP exchange of dialogues between Aarti (Taapsee), a Hindu daughter-in-law of a Muslim lawyer Murad Ali (Rishi Kapoor) and Anand (Ashutosh Rana) & the monologue by The Judge (Kumud Mishra) in the climax court scene will leave a lasting impact.
Pannu & Kapoor are simply OUTSTANDING - Taapsee's emotions, anger, controlled dialogue delivery and screen presence is pure magic, didn't expect such good hold over dialect & language from her. If #Pink was gold, Mulk is a diamond. Rishi Kapoor is sheer superior talent at display, moving a step higher with each film he does.
Ashutosh Rana is wicked - combo of perfection & brilliance. Manoj Pahwa is natural in emotional scenes. Others like Rajat Kapoor, Neena Gupta & Prachi Shah also do well. Undoubtedly, the film is full of gutsy performances, but the REAL SUPERSTARS of the film are the script itself & the hard-hitting dialogues you won't easily forget.
On the whole, Mulk tells us why & what is wrong with India (without being preachy) and films like these are needed every 6 months as it serves a BIG SLAP on the faces those bigots who wish to divide our Nation based on religion & community.
If you haven't watched any movie this year in the theatre, then it's time to break the rule - Book your tickets RIGHT NOW.
The stellar cast, climax & direction makes it a MUST-WATCH & one of the BEST Movies of 2018!
My Rating: 4.5/5
P.S:
1) This story is NOT about 'US' vs 'THEM'. Forget the fights between India & Pakistan, it's first important to remove the terror residing within YOU & around YOU. It's a message of LOVE & Peaceful CO-EXISTENCE..
2) Extremists and terrorists exists on both sides and they will remain the same to keep pursuing their full time job of hating on other communities irrespective of such films, but it is upon the other apolitical minds to decide on which side they wish to be for a better Nation.
2) As usual, please don't forget the hit the "LIKE" Button & SHARE your thoughts if you have liked this review. Thanks
Veere Di Wedding (2018)
Crazy, Natural, Unabashed & Unapologetic! You MUST attend this Veere Di Wedding
A complete entertainer full of comedy, drama, emotions, masti, relationships, bonding & the amazing graph of all these characters.
STRICTLY no male-bashing, no feminism & no women empowerment naatak. Just a story of four women who face life as it comes. Let's celebrate friendship and be there with each other when we need them the most. It also teaches you to celebrate imperfections and refrain from labelling anyone.
Music blends so well into the movie. Each song has something to say, there is something for everybody. The sangeet song #PappiLeLoon being my top favorite! Lots of EDM, Rock and Funky Dance numbers to keep you grooving.
There is not a SINGLE dull moment in #VeereDiWedding! Tight screenplay, hilarious dialogues, unfolding of drama, casual flow of narrative, performance by each and every side cast, all these pluses make the film almost a perfect watch.
Every action of these four amazing girls, be at the wedding or the vacation, will be RELATABLE AF with the girls. You will know when you see it. These are happy, self-independent, financially secure urban, stylish women trying to sort out personal situations & be friends with life as it is.
There is no scope of vulgarity (except if you consider cussing as vulgar, which was shockingly allowed in UAE cinemas too for a change). We do cuss in our everyday lives and it was shown as it is in the movie as well, I see nothing wrong there.
Veere Di Wedding wasn't trying to prove to be anything in the first place that it deserved the negativity it did on Social Media. Don't like it, don't watch it, let others do!
My Favourite characters: 1) Sonam Kapoor - I never thought I did say this but she is extremely cute and adorable when her character is very very confused and cute (very unlike herself), smooth yet strong and holds her base right in whatever she is asked to do. 2) Undoubtedly Kareena Kapoor had to have the maximum screen time. The SUPERSTAR is back with a Bang! A very mature, smart and restrained performance. Kudos!
STAY AWAY from the movie if you are one of those who get easily triggered by just seeing HAPPY women on the screen! For the rest of us who love Bollywood & love to keep personal ideologies separate from the films we watch, have an amazing time at the theatre
Let's all be PRO-CHOICE & let everyone survive in the eco-system. It is OK to have flaws & it is OK to be what you want.
I may just watch Veere Di Wedding again with my other girl-gang and I am totally vouching for a sequel already

Rajaji (1999)
Just another film of Govinda with Kader Khan, Aruna Irani & Raveena
Unfortunately this movie doesn't fall into a single genre of comedy which Govinda is well known for. It's more of a typical Hindi film drama this time. The film in totality doesn't leave any impression in your mind. This is one of those time pass films you can watch while you have nothing else to do.
The whole of the cast is just wasted in this average fair.
