Was botox sponsoring this gammon filled cringe fest ?
3 June 2024
There's hamming it up and then there's this movie, is this what comedy films have become ?

It's not even low hanging fruit it's bottom of the barrel rotten, worm infested mush.

I weep for humanity, surprised pierce brosnan stooped so low but i guess it's a pay check at the end of the day and he has a retirement to consider.

Basic plot, basic formula, a few laughs that are good, direction - probs could've been better but it's serviceable.

Painfull cgi and stunt work.

I was tempted to stop watching when the 'emt brother' started convulsing and imitating a lewd action, as that whole concept for a character is way beyong suspension of disbelief.

Probs one of those movies to watch when high or drunk cos def not for the sober and sane.

Atlas (2024)

off brand titanfall meets terminator and edge of tomorrow
28 May 2024
For gamers who are familiar with titanfalls ' pilots ' they will feel this move might be copying a lot from them.

Everyone else gets a mech suit movie with j lo, love or hate her she's playing a by the numbers role somewhat similar to tom cruise in edge of tomorrow but with out the benefit of time resets.

I had a good time watching this movie, it's over flowing with good quality cgi, servicable plot and really good action.

J-lo doesn't deserve the hate she's getting for it, only so much an actress can do, considering what atlas goes through i'd say the common complaints are just being overly critical for an ai vs machine / mech movie like seriously.

It's not going to win oscars purely cos it's by the numbers and a bit cliche but sometimes thats what people want unless they're too wrapped up in j lo hate.

Worth a watch !

The boondock saints episode.
8 April 2024
For those familiar with that movie franchise they will see many similarities with this episode.

Usual quality for acting, direction, writing seems to floating around the slow plodding sess pool that is has become.

We can only hope they wake up and do better.

At least remy finally gave corey an ultimatum and woke his lazy ass up. As unrealistic as it is to force someone with depression / anxiety off their ass and be a functioning adult.

That process varies in each person with those afflictions but it is rarely a quick fix.

They even got one of the actors from the films to be the bad guy.

Heck it has a hint of john wick about it too.

Cliche kidnapping of students.
21 March 2024
Write a list of those tropes / make a bingo card and cross them out after each development!

It felt like i was watching 'crisis' series 1 from 2014, with the basic story, but lacking the effort/ intrigue and length.

This story has all the classic over used elements but to list them would be a spoiler, but you can probs see it coming as it's all very predictable.

The side plot is remy's nephew from the previous weeks, who is also a predictable mess.

Acting usual mixed standard, by the numbers.

Sound / music good for the most part with fitting scores.

Direction, usual faire for procedural likes to make things over dramatic and try to use music for emotions but after so many years of the trick might not work anymore. #jaded af.

Notes - Some woefull writing of the bad guys actions and thought process really don't hold water.

FBI: Most Wanted: Hollow (2024)
Season 5, Episode 4

The quality has dropped
15 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This show has had a good run of keeping the fbi taskforce on an even keel of justice and not leaping to conclusions too often/ rarely.

The addition of remy and other new characters seems to have come at a cost of that, as this week remy seems to have completely lost all his principles and rules and just gets angry and judgemental with the first piece of evidence and suspicious eye witness / escaped victim, which usually in these shows tells the story of he might look guilty but it's all to neat and tidy and early in the episode for them to be the guilty party.

The episode even starts with them chasing someone who is clearly white. So someone was lacking faith in the episodes story telling.

This episode tries to be a dark gritty tale in the vibe of dexter / hannibal but it lacks their polish and crafting of the narrative, in a rushed by the numbers drama, it's almost impressive it's taken this long in the shows lifespan for them to litteraly phone in a story but it is kind of par for the course of this season.

After 3 awesome movies, the quality has dropped.
11 March 2024
It's fun, predictable and has a wholesome wrap up.

But underneath the slick animation, new characters, quick fights and a slightly forced anti violence message, it boils down to cheap kfp 2 clone.

Which would be fine if it did it better with higher stakes, more drama and more growth. But someone didn't get the memo and imo we have ended up with a poorer imitation of it.

It's fast paced and rushed in to a 90 min window, fights are awesome but short, po has a tiny bit of developement and awkwafina just feels phoned in for a potential spin off series, there is no corelation with the tv shows either.

Overall i would say this is trying to be 'best bits of kung fu panda' but the choices of those near direct references are from someone who only read the cliff notes of the movies and in so doing lacks punch.

The ending is an interesting concept but was it earned ? You decide.

The Grand Tour: The Grand Tour: Sand Job (2022)
Season 5, Episode 3
9/10
An epic adventure for the most part.
17 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This penultimate special seems to be a love letter to true fans of these 3 idiots escapades, It takes many of the critisisms on board and has come up with a nicely balanced wholesome 2 hours and a 14 mins of them being less of the ' characters they have made and more of themselves.

Yes there is scripting, yes there is some painfully staged skits, but it's done with a lot more effort and care than many of the grand tours early episodes and later top gear.

This special has minimal bloating, we get to see more of their chemistry and larking about with glorious shots and views, slow mo, panning shots, expertly shot drone footage. It's a feast for fans.

The music is mostly good, a welcome return of the a team theme, but later on it's goes for a different vibe around half way that i didn't really vibe with. (But that is subjective)

I was tempted to give it all 10 but the editing lacked some polish, like the iron ore train for example could have been halved and nothing would have been lost and then james revenge prank on hammond with the roof / tent rack was frighteningly dangerous not to mention malicious. Yet clarkson the usuall ring leader in pranks gets away with it ?

And the ending !

I pray the final episode in zimbabwe follows this formula but leaves out the pranks that could easily go wrong.

Final thoughts, good jokes that don't overstay their welcome, the chemistry on full display, the longer run time gives a better view of the trip and the lil snippets in to their moods, random events.

Reacher lite meets smallvilles green arrow
14 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Justin hartley fresh out of that woke show, returns to his smallville roots with a reacher lite show.

Less violence, drives a truck and lives in an rv, instead of being a hobo/ vagrant.

First ep is easy watching, kid is taken, cops quick to judge and arrest, cop gets the hots for justin / colter the moment he is proven innocent.

Colter has an ex who is a hot asian lawyer, but she learned her lesson ?

He works for two women, who have been given a lesbian couple angle. But feels forced.

Production value, usual canadian high rating, great views, good editing, well directed and sound is clear even when outside.

Acting, mostly good if a bit cliche and standard for procedural.

The Beekeeper (2024)

Pretty much john wick with equalizer / reacher vibes but is lacking in polish.
5 February 2024
Dumb cringey bad guys trying to justify being bad guys is the order of the day, so if you love my previous mentioned comparisons you'll have an idea of what to expect.

This movie is classic jason statham, his moves and prowess is on full display with minimal cut aways and stunt standins.

Jason shows gun play close to keanu's and fighting off henchman like alan ritchinson's reacher.

Acting- acceptable for most for what they had to work with, others are plain annoying ( head of the call centers and random pmc / henchmen, and oh boy the state of the blond highlighted foreign merc in a yellow jacket), Josh hutcherson goes for a less is more chill vibe, and jeremy irons just oozes coolness has he takes control of the situation.

Music tries to be a unique flavour emmulating john wicks score fits well but isn't memorable.

Effects - strictly mid nothing special or fancy just what is needed and does the job.

Stunt work - quite alot of embelishment in perps flying around from kicks and explosions.

Fights are pretty good with some really nice set pieces.

Enjoy!

Kevin badly needed a pop filter.
5 February 2024
The mic he used is terrible , for what reason ? Nostalgia ? Low budget ? Someone couldn't be bothered to give him a modern mic ? Should have had a lavalier mic clipped on and thhis old style mic used as a prop.

So for me the constant breathing noises popping and messy audio completely ruins the humour potential.

The volume is all over the place, seems the audience were a bunch of seals for laughing at litterally nothing.

Jokes wise ? Humour is subjective and often unique like a finger print, ageing bald guy talks life, death and history.

I found when he's quieter and more calm he was funnier than his wild physical attempts at humour.

It's quickfire either from bad editing or they gave kevin a adrenaline shot before he walks on.

Not his best not his worst.

Lift (I) (2024)
8/10
Classic heist movie, Very oceans 11, with a hint of red notice.
27 January 2024
It's a watchable pop corn flick, kevin tries a bit hard to be a different character than his usual clueless / inept/ loveable goofs and i reckon he pulls it off for the most part, but i get the sense he can only hold in his giggly ego for so long before he has to get a pat on the back and an atta boy, for reciting a line with out laughing every 2 minutes as his scenes are RARELY that long with out several edits / cut aways.

He is supported by well rounded mix of actors, who all seem competant with loki's renslayer as second fiddle and an aging sam worthington.

CGI is a bit over the top and it does push the suspension of disbelief a bit more than some in the genre have done before, ( plane) which for anyone with even the most basic of aerodynamic knowledge will laugh at.

Music- fits well.

Stunt work is pretty good (plane stuff).

Is it perfect ? Hell no but it's fun, harmless escapism, which is what most heist movies are meant to be. A simple fact that seems lost on a lot of other reviewers.

Reacher: Fly Boy (2024)
Season 2, Episode 8
7/10
Didn't stick the landing.
19 January 2024
Where to begin ?

This finale should've been taken back to the drawing board, The pacing is rushed, we learn what happened to swan, what kind of men langston and AM really are and reacher is basically hercules.

Production - another rough cgi, obvious stunt work set piece, poorly mixed audio ( i use headphones).

Acting - usual standard, some shine others just phone it in.

Music - well chosen.

The episode starts right where ep7 left off with reacher going in to the lions den and ready to fight.

The bad guys become utter chumps and drop like flies, and it just gets worse from there.

With out spoiling specifics, the main fight is over by the half way point of the episode and the rest of it is used to wrap up the 'victims families' and reachers good byes.

Some violence, a teeny bit of gore, a lot of suspension of disbelief required and alot of mixed messages.

A good sum up of the season, moments of brilliance and good action let down by dumb writing and forced cliches.

Reacher: The Man Goes Through (2024)
Season 2, Episode 7
10/10
Reacher is on the hunt.
12 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This episode ramps things up to 11, russo is avenged in brutal fashion.

This episode is sublime, pays off more plot threads, fights, gun battle, kills, reacher being a complete savage in his usual calm yet menacing manner.

One tiny issue, having OD and dixon being nabbed soon after marloe and her daughter leaving ? Could've been cut for time but seems a lil odd they would go willingly, unless langston sent a whole squad after them :D But could marloe and daughter be in danger still or is that just going to be left to assume they made it ?

Production value still good but it does feel like they had some casting issues with how minimal the extra's / supporting back ground characters have been, which compared to similar shows where there is so many it's stands out.

Rip russo you'll be missed.

Reacher: New York's Finest (2024)

The pieces fall in to place.
5 January 2024
For those looking for an improvement over ep5 will find it here, but it's still focusing on the story elements, with a bit of action toward the end.

Nay sayers will rate it low because of this more cerebral take to pay off the sub plot threads, we get definitive answers on a couple of things, but i won't spoil them.

This episode picks up soon after ep5, traveling around is skipped over and they just suddenly somewhere else.

Quality is still high with sound action and most of the casts acting and some good levity and one liners.

Downside: the ending tries to make a statement and develope a character but the final seconds cheapen it.

Mechs vs giant crabs with kids.
4 January 2024
Comparisons - pacific rim franchise, gen:lock with a hint of starship troopers/ transformers prime (from what i've seen).

Yes the frame rate is painfully low which is a real shame that it kills some of the intensity of the fights. Otherwise impressive to see, with good music and sound effects.

Story blends the aforementioned shows with an easy to follow kids in mechs vs giant crab like aliens war.

Each episode is 20ish mins, that have enough going on to keep invested, with no filler. The finale of season is a cliff hanger but no word on season 2 yet.

Aimed more at a younger audience but some fans of the genre might find things to like !

Reacher: Burial (2023)
Season 2, Episode 5
9/10
Slower pace, less violent, but still reacher.
29 December 2023
One liners flowing like a fine aged whiskey, more evidence to suggest swan has gone bad, reacher getting facts and hard to swallow truths.

Review stuff, Some of the burial scenes seemed a lil staged as the background was so far out of focus but the cast was all sharp with no one else around. And then they still have outside shots that look way better, other wise sound and music all good and maintaining the strong production values overall.

This episode is a bit of a slower burn compared to the previous 4, which seems like an deliberate move to pace viewers for what seems like a full on final 3, but for some viewers with the season being piecemealed out weekly it will feel a bit of a let down.

22 December 2023
They somehow topped even the best episodes!

Sass, comedic timing, one liners, fights, intrigue, good plot developement !

Didn't even notice the time !

Damn shame it's another week to wait for the 'burial' which is probs going to be a blast !

Review stuff, mostly well directed and choreographed, the 'fight' seemed a victim of production and stunt work with hiding the stunt doubles and effects so it looks a bit choppy but you have to be really looking for it to spot it.

Music on point, acting on point by all concerned even the poor saps getting beaten up make you feel it, pacing is perhaps a lil rushed but it's packed to the hilt 45 mins ish.

CANNOT WAIT FOR NEXT WEEK !

Reacher: What Happens in Atlantic City (2023)
Season 2, Episode 2
10/10
After a big start things slow down a bit.
15 December 2023
This episode is still a meaty 45 mins of awesome, but it's a slower pace and more relaxed effort as they spend a fair bit of time sat around talking and explaining, inbetween action, sass, wholesomeness, and good fights bring things back on track.

This episode has a few moments from the trailer ( construction site) which still feels funnier than it should be, some subtle references and call backs, and we get more teases for the big bad.

Cast chemistry shines once again, well directed and fitting music.

Not sure i buy in to somethings that happen as it has a bit of disbelief needing to be suspended.

But it's still great to watch reacher do reacher things !

Shame the whole season isn't out in one go cos it's even more bingeable than s1.

An hour of awesome
15 December 2023
Reacher is back !

Keeps the winning formula from s1, sass, action, reacher laying the smack down and the backstory of the 110th is well paced not to heavy or long.

Reacher fans who watched the trailers will recognise the opening moments but it's still great to see it explained more.

The new cast works well as they are introduced, direction / audio / music all well chosen and fit the scenes.

This first episode packs a lot in to the hour of run time and it feels longer but is very enjoyable.

A good start to the season.

With out spoilers they have also managed to equal and maybe even topped the prison cell scene.

Why are you still reading this ? Go watch !

30 November 2023
This week the cogs get a job from royal enfield the famous motor bike makers.

This leads to a trip to france for richard niel and andrew while anthony gets to grips with an old citreon and later finds out about a job on a stirling moss car !

Good laughs, good fun, nice views, people in and out of their element and maybe too much of one :D

Feels less scripted and more genuine.

Usual high standard of production and hammond being smart for a change !

Probs one the best episodes of the season and gives us some more hope for interesting builds later on !

A must see for richard and cog fans <3.

The Lazarus Project (2022–2023)
8/10
The british remake of time cop with a sprinkling of edge of tomorrow.
24 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
That movie was a very big reference point for this show, but they're in denial about it.

If the idea of george going back to save his gf wasn't a set up, just like jcvd was told not too save his wife, then they spend time meandering around the issue with tried and tested espionage, terrorists, and then fill in the gaps with silly character drama, but put it all under a dark pallate of grey, blue, and black.

Well directed, good music and sounds give you a sense of action and high stakes, season 1 was a convoluted mess of idea's that barely hold up to much scrutiny and season 2 just takes that to new heights.

The 'rogue' time machine is a direct copy of time cops sled, but it's more modern and sleek, but there is also another scientist working on a proper time travel machine?

Season 2 takes some time to get going with so many 'rewinds' alot blurs together and some might find it hard to understand whats happening and with the timeline constantly in flux with people making changes it's alot to take in.

The idea people can get head shots might sound silly but if you consider the amount times these agents have had to shoot people they pull a tom cruise from edge of tomorrow style muscle memory/ learning from past mistakes, so they have had plenty of practise.

By the end sides are chosen, people are lost and some still have no clue what the heck is going on.

S3 hopefully happens and we get something less confusing.

Awesome
23 November 2023
Yes they're still sticking to the 'narrative' of last weeks, with the doom n gloom of the race car but they move past it and have learned valuable lessons if you believe they would geniunely make such basic easy mistakes.

Then it's back on track with the wholesome banter and chemistry we love to see and more genuine looking moments.

Which imo stand out more as the 'scripted' stuff,

lancia gets finished and looks amazing, and they get blast from the past for a quick refresh, great scott!

They get back on the race track with mixed results, the future is bright the future is cog shaped.

Usuall high quality of production, great humour, jokes, references.

More of this !

Honest Review - A funny mess of subverting expectations.
18 November 2023
They took the film and litteraly tore it to shreds (not read comics), they then took those pieces, threw them on the floor, then took turns to throw darts at the shreds and what ever got a dart was what they combined and to fill in some gaps just copied kevin smiths he man revelations.

Music - opening theme is trying a bit hard to emulate cowboy bebop, the episodes have some good tunes for the most part, not sure about ep2 song by scots ex.

Fights - lets just say if you want movie fights redone in anime you'll be disapointed by the mind boggling lack of them, but for the fights we do get are pretty good.

Animation - mixes the comic's look with an updated style, but can't decide between choppy action or smooth transitions, some of it is smooth but a lot is choppy which some might find jarring.

Voice work - some of them sound a bit bored / phoning it in early on in the season, then everyone seems to find their grove and it shows.

Overall - it's fun, seems to get a bit lost in the middle with all the changes and then scrambles to get back on track in the last 2 episodes. Ending is pretty good, but it still feels anticlimatic.

Not the best episode.
17 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It's still watchable, funny, daft, silly but i'm sorry to say it goes too far with the shenanigains.

They make a big deal of dead lines and anthony working on the mg race car and each of them do a camera interview where they give their opinion on whats happening.

But then they all get 'opportunities' to learn / experience, niel goes to feed the animals, anthony goes to a proper race meeting with their race expert ross, and richard goes golfing with izzy.

Poor andrew is left holding the bag with the latest wierd customer request and Kamla shows up expecting richard to be ready for their meeting about whats on the books (ugh), but she pulls a mindy and goes on the hunt for richard.

She's going to a golf course in high heels for petes sake.

Usual quality of production, camera work / sound all on point but this silly staged nonsense just doesn't do them any favours.

007: Road to a Million: Episode #1.1 (2023)
Season 1, Episode 1
7/10
Deeply Flawed attempt to recapture the thrilling exploits of 007.
15 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The production value blows the amazing race and the like out of the water, but it comes at the cost of realism and any sense of competition.

Everything is painfully staged to the point of absurdity, and frankly kills any sense of achievment, especially when the show admits no one is racing other teams it is 9 teams of two on their own adventure where the only challenge is their trivia and physical fitness or their deep seated issues.

The problem lies with the editing of the teams experiences, team geezer for example have one of them jump in to the water and after a quick cut away to the utterly useless team sisters, that guy is out of the water, bone dry and lacking any signs of being in very cold water or the associated physical exursion, and his mate, is just lying there chilled out enjoying the view. These two muppets then panic and fuss over the smoke grenade to choose an answer..

The sisters - one girl gets stuck in the mud TWICE and after a quick edit is bone dry, clean and in fresh clothes and shoes before they even REACH the clue box.

Going back to the geezers, they are given a place and street name, and the goal is to get to the second floor, sounds simple right ? Well the door is locked and they have to find another way in, but the producers already set up a scaffold and wooden pallets with some rope ! Two blokes dressed like tourists are throwing a rope over a wall to a villa in venice HOW SUS DOES THAT LOOK ??

Bond fans would be best to use this as back ground noise for the music and skip the rest.

Reality fans enjoy i guess ? ;)
