Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Subspace Rhapsody (2023)
Just stop already
So far, every episode this season have been written and acted very well (well, except for the first one and the cartoon episodes). I was beginning to have higher hopes for this series because the story lines actuallyhad some depth to them. Season one was good until they ran out of ideas and did the Predator remake and the fairy tale episode so it left me disappointed. Now they're heading down the same path. Whose idea was it to do a musical? If I want to watch something with a bunch of cheesy songs I'll watch Disney. I don't want to see it on a sci-fi series, especially Star Trek. The cartoon episode was bad enough, but this one was like nails on a chalkboard. Who is giving all the high ratings for this one? The writers and their bots? Just stop already....
Fire Country: Like Old Times (2022)
Editors and Writers pay attention
The background accompanied music, especially at the beginning, was way too loud. It was so loud you couldn't hear the conversation between Bode and Jake.
Better research and background knowledge is needed to make this show more believable. Someone who starts out on dialysis doesn't do their first sessions at home. That comes months, if not years, later with extensive training for the caregiver. The patient and caregiver would also know how to properly take their blood pressure.
When Eve gets stuck on the rock wall and they have to cut her loose, a real crew would have had the tools for her to tie off quickly. The wind issue would have been known by the pilot and he would have corrected his position or he would have said no way to the mission. What happened to a simple repelling operation? That would have been the first option.
And to have the patient who has a broken femur protruding hobble to the basket herself? Didn't she just fall 100 feet from a cliff? What about back and neck injuries? What about internal bleeding or injuries? Then the basket gets caught on the rock wall and Jake has the nerve to yell this is a critical patient?
The writers of this show need to revisit the old 70's show Emergency. At least their maneuvers were believable and realistic!
Bode's mom worked so hard keeping her secret. Disappointed in Bode blabbing it to everyone. It's obvious his mom is his soft spot, but I doubt tough guy Bode would have just wilted into a hot mess. I was really hating Jake at the beginning of this episode, but at least they made him do a role reversal by the end for Bode. But for the sake of drama, which the writers seem to be aiming for more than actual fire rescues, it would have been better to keep the conflict going a little longer between them.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: All Those Who Wander (2022)
Is this series going to last?
The previous episode left me wondering if the writer stole his 8 year old's school essay and turned it into the fairy tale book plot. I was actually enjoying this new series up until then. It seemed to be going back to the episode by episode premise like TOS and Next Gen and had the feel of Star Trek. A big improvement over Discovery. But then enter this episode. This one shows the writers are already running out of plot lines. This was nothing more than a very shortened version of Alien peppered with a little bit of Predator. I hope they can come up with some better story lines after these two duds. Hope they insert more science and steer away from the touchy feely kinder gentler crew relationships. It's getting a little sappy.
The Ice Road (2021)
Don't understand all the bad reviews
Predictable? Yes. Unrealistic situations? Yes. A simple minded script? Yes. So what! It's Liam Nieson. He can survive anything.... It has lots of action and suspense. If you want to watch a movie that has a lot of fight scenes, explosions, thrills and spills, then this is worth watching. Ignore the 1 star reviews and take a chance to watch it. It really isn't all that bad.
News of the World (2020)
Enjoyable Sunday afternoon movie
A little slow in parts, but has some suspenseful, action scenes as well. It's a feel good movie where Hanks and the girl who plays Johanna work well together. Tempted to buy it since it came out but always passed because I thought it might be a little boring based on the predictable story line. Finally gave in after almost 2 months and I'm glad I did. I've been enjoying a lot of western, frontier, and historical fiction movies lately so if you like these kinds of stories, you'll like News of the World.
World's Toughest Race: Eco-Challenge Fiji (2020)
Not as good as original EcoChallenges
For the reviewers who said they don't care about who's dad, or son, or kids, etc, probably never watched the original shows. I did and it was interesting to see a number of original Ecochallenge racers still do adventure racing. I miss the original format that showed more of the actual arduous treks for competitors. This new version tends to only show clips of getting stuck in the mud, carrying bikes, sleeping in local school houses, etc. The original put watchers right in the middle of most of the action while this one is mostly narrated by the competitors. Yes most of the focus is on US teams, but that's probably because out of 66 teams, the US made up a third with 22 teams. Other countries only had between 1 to 6 teams. An initial intro episode would have been great to show the rules, the equipment, etc as that adds so much more of the struggles the competitors face that most watchers don't realize. In the beginning when the front American team wound up being almost last because one team member suffered heat stroke, they showed how when the team entered the hike into the jungle, they had to stop again for the ill teammate. Yet, they admitted they didn't bring water with them. If you have a team member suffering heat issues, why would you choose to not bring water? It's things like that which needed more of the backstory shared. I hope there will be more challenges, but I hope Mark Burnett takes the lead again and revert back to the original broadcast format used in years past.
The Last Ship: It's Not a Rumor (2015)
Opening is all wrong
Opens in Biscayne Bay Florida. Everyone is dressed like its really cold. This location is near Miami where it seldom gets below 50-60 degrees.
