the end could have been better
15 August 2004
OMEN 3 aas depicted in the posters lead film filmgoers to believer damien and GOD would have a battle for the white house and all the weaponry and power both political and military that position bears with it. Instead damien does a brief cameo when the President welcomes him into the Oval Office to appoint him ambassador to england. This was disappointing, with myself holding out for a full blown attack by the forces of evil to toppel the united states in a coup. deprived of this the audience ends up in england for the rest of the film. The film focuses on thorn and a group of priests with daggers that were sanctified by catholic clergy; they are the only thing that can stop damien. If you walk in not expecting alot you'll like this film.

the film where Christian films had a chance to go mainstream and they blew it
15 August 2004
IN 1970 CROSS AND THE SWITCHBLADE came out. The tale of gangs drugs and violence was very popular in filmhouses across the nation. It propelled momentum forward for Christian films and Christian film concepts to be brought forth. Unfotunately the people behind the Christian films like gospel films and billy zeoli failed to see that their time was then. Their time was then and they blew it. This film was churchy but unlike anything the methodists or any other denomination had put out before. Visually the film had a gritty urban feel of filth, guns, ruined buildings and no hope. The book was first a novel. The novel was much grittier and dealt with adult issues better not dealt with on this website. I actually had the privilege as I was growing up to know one of the men who was depicted in the book as having worked with wilkerson. The film is gritty but is a family film and is extremely well made. The dialog may make you cringe but we are talking 1970 here. The dialog is badly dated. The sad thing now film group stands now to turn out quality Christian films. Looks up it's time to pop up the pop corn and go see the PASSION again.

Touched by an Angel (1994–2003)
a show that helped CBS boost it's ratings
14 August 2004
Touched by a angel was a program which became popular in the mid 1990's and gave CBS a much rated ratings boost. In the early 1990's CBS was getting clobbered by shows like HOME IMPROVEMENT and the thursday night comedy block on NBC. Christians for years had begged networks for more family oriented wat they got was a show about two angels on rescue missions from GOD. The show was a huge hit and with other proraming changes CBS got out of the low ratings doledrums. The point of this story is that they listened to their audience. They listened to their audience and a huge hit was born when the right script showed up at CBS. The series had a long run and at this time can be seen in reruns on the HALLMARK CHANNEL.

Quark (1977–1978)
a spoof on the star wars craze
14 August 2004
QUARK was a spoof on the STAR WARS craze and had a limited run in 1978. It's run was brief but it was ahead of it's time. The crew lead by a man named Quark got into weekly intergalactic adventures aboard a space faring garbage scow. The show was funny but it's fate was decided and it was never renewed. The show I believe was on a friday night and it made the ratings battle too hard for QUARK to compete with. However the show was created by BUCK HENRY who had done such things as CATCH 22, and GET SMART and THE GRADUATE. Buck Henry is known for high quality work. The audience henry was dealing with was not prepared for this kind of humor. The spoofing of the science fiction craze just didn't float in 1978.

The 700 Club (1966– )
aa right wing news program with christian influence
12 August 2004
A talk show in which christian views, right wing political views, and the agenda of the republican party are brought forth in a one hour news and interview style format. Pat Robertson is truly a media master mind as he lays out his media message and supports his political agenda in a show that is one hour of religious propaganda. (yes I would say that to his face) I recommend this show to those who enjoy this sort of of programming. I dont recommend this program to liberals or people offended by heavy attacks on liberal lifestyles and liberal media. I believe this man to be a polite man but gone is the shows original format of no news and more ministry. His endorsement of the republican party lays it out as a party of god so to speak when there are just as many christians who are libererals or democrates .....yet he never acknowledges that.

Predator (1987)
a risky premise that pans out
10 August 2004
PREDATOR could had premise that could be box office gold but if the effects were wrong it could be a disaster. The film was anything but a disaster it was a box office hit. With the throw back to the 1950s story 20th century fox got a bonifide winner. When I went to see the film I had seen the trailer but did not know what to expect. About ten minutes into the movie I smiled with relief....it wasn't going to suck. The film follows a elite special forces rescue team sent into the jungle to rescue CIA personel and a helicopter crew. The rescue team reaches their target site and a battle errupts and the american team wins. Only they come across the predator at this site and a female POW. As the film moves on the predator comes for the team stalking them. Predator is a fun movie and has a great director at the helm. This is a good one to keep in your private collection at home.

A big letdown
1 August 2004
I was hoping for something along the lines of another JACOBS LADDER. I walked into the theatre with high hops but was sadly disappointed and underwelmed. I expected to see more mind games between the US soldiers and their captors but got very little. The film in fact sounds like a john birch pamphlet with electronic implants being placed in peoples bodies and brains. The film is far from a total loss but I feel cheated.....I should have gone to see THE VILLAGE. Despite my problems with the film and it's habit of being boring the cerebral nature of the piece shows a lot of merit. In the film we never see one of the faceless villains a giant aerospace defense contractor called MANCHURIAN. I would have liked to have seen it on screen and had it's downfall visualized. Wait to catch this one on video.

a sad film from people that meant well
29 July 2004
A THIEF IN THE NIGHT is a film filled with flawed theology. The plot revolves around a married woman left alone when a rapture comes. Fleeing the UN controlled white house and congress and senate she starts running from military troops who arrest or kill on sight people who have no mark on the forehead or right arm. This films theology has christ returning twice. In this film there is a second chance for people left behind to face the time of the antichrist. This is against scripture and the parables of christ. Christ returns once. Just once. not two or three times with christ making a pretzel in the sky! A THIEF IN THE NIGHT and films like it stir up fear and attendance at gun shows. This film is the TRIUMPH OF THE WILL for the john birch society and militia movement.

anton levay as technical adviser
28 July 2004
Talented writer Anton Levay was the writer of two books. The books levay wrote were THE SATANIC BIBLE and The sequel book on rituals. I am not a satanist but I read both and loved his writing style. This film sucks. Avoid this film. Instead of having the three writers they used on this film they should have hired levay instead to plot the story. I could not even finish this movie it was so bad. Perhaps I am being too hard on the film as this type is Saturday night at the drive-in fare. On levays literary work he a style that reinforces his point with historic proof or his own opinions. The writer of the satanic manifesto could definitely whip out a crackling good yarn.

prophecy gets the cold war treatment
27 July 2004
THE LATE GREAT PLANET EARTH was a book that was like nothing before it. Using cold war era interpretation the book and film heralded the second coming of Christ Jesus and the rise of the Antichrist. The film and book were smash hits because they catered to fear. People scared of the imposition of a mark on the right hand or the forehead went to see this film and read the book only got even more afraid because there was nothing it seemed they could do to stop these events. The book and film use use scenarios featuring a clash between the united states and NATO vs. Russia and the Warsaw PACT. China also flex's her military muscle and the Arab nations attack Israel. This series of clashes leads up to Armageddon. This is great but the Warsaw pact is disbanded (as of this writing)and Russia is no longer the threat it once was since 1989-1990 with the reunification of Germany. Still Lindsy clings to his suspicion of Russia invading Israel when he speaks on TV and in print. Some weeks it's demons invading as alien grey like beings. The problem with Lindsey is he can't make up his mind. The film is not a bad film for collectors of Christian cinema but on a intellectual level be wary.

a man runs from a past he cannot remember...how far he will get is the question
19 July 2004
THE BOURNE IDENITY is a tale of a black operations assasin with amnesia who is being hunted by several mob factions including the CIA. The gun play in the film takes a back seat to fine weaved plot. This film doesn't make the mistakes of earlier films like RONIN. THE BOURNE IDENTITY has great action and adventure but this isn't another mile a minute DIE HARD movie. Instead of insulting your intelligence the conjure up a wonderful piece of brain candy which appeals to those who like a thinking persons film. The plot is thrown out like a puzzle as viewers watch as the director and the producers connect the pices of bournes identity and how he was left for dead in the opening. I recommend this film to all Robert Ludlum fans and fans who liked MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 1. I also recommend this to fans of the spy genre.

King Arthur (2004)
king Arthur in his adventures as a roman centurion
15 July 2004
KING Arthur is a thought provoking action adventure, which deals with his adventures as a military leader in the legions of Rome. Action adventure saves the ticket buyers from boredom in all the right places. In essence that's the one flaw of this film; too much talking. The film gets wordy in several places and that almost damaged the films effect. There are several scenes where they talk of impending battles and destroying the enemy and instead the film moves the plot to another talking sequence without the battle. KING Arthur is a film the whole family can enjoy without the nudity and swear words of other Hollywood fare. I found the production value and the costumes and colors used to be easy on the eyes. There seemed to be a lot of care and hard work by the producers on this film. All the work that went into this film translated into a sharp looking roman era film instead of older films shot on Hollywood back lots which are cheesy in comparison. KING Arthur will set well with people fascinated by Rome and possibly fans of GLADIATOR.

Spider-Man 2 (2004)
the best super hero movie yet made
13 July 2004
SPIDER MAN 2 is the new standard by which super hero films are made. Spider Man is a heavy duty fantasy film rooted in enough suspension of disbelief to make it work. SPIDER MAN is also rooted in enough adventure and thrills to make any kid or adult leave the theatre looking forward to SPIDER MAN 3 or perhaps to see SPIDER MAN 2 again. SPIDER MAN works on many levels; it works as a action picture, it works as a love film, and it works as a mad scientist movie. I seldom go to movies at the theatre any more do to excessive cost and I despise the crap mill in Los Angeles. This film was worth the $5.50 I shelled out to go see it. I remember the tag line to SUPERMAN "YOU WILL BELIEVE A MAN CAN FLY" there could be one for this film and TOBY MAGUIRE revolving around Maguire and his acting. His acting draws out the best in his lines and the potential in the films screenplay. The same could be said of of this films direction once again drawing out the best in the screen play and the comic book legend. I recommend this film to families as there is no objectionable material.

commandos on a island take up a impossible mission
11 July 2004
TOO LATE THE HERO is a top notch war film about a british unit plus one american who must destroy a japanese communications station on a island. The mission for all purposes is impossible. TOO LATE THE HERO is long in a few spots, yet the film overcomes this flaw and the pace flows smoothly again. The film has a gritty realism to it which is aided by the deep jungle locations the film was shot at. Fans of FARWELL TO THE KING will enjoy this film as well, as it is up the same alley as that Nick Nolte film. OOne thing I enjoyed about this film were the casualty levels on the japanese and allied sides; these were were very realistic.

Getting silly at the movies!!!
5 July 2004
The book on which this film is based is a fine COLD WAR era interpretation of revelation. Written in a era when NATO and the WARSAW PACT treaty nations trembled at the prospect of conventional and nuclear conflict; now that the mind numbing smog of hatred and fear is being blown out, this film needs to be re-written. Lindsey's approach caters to the right wing heavily. Many people have flocked to go see this film or read the accompanying book;or both! This film and films like them are from dime a dozen fear merchants who prey on the minds of the peaceful with a dogma of troop deployments to har meggido, marks on right hands or foreheads, and the U.S. government turning evil. The problem with this film is it is dated badly. Lindsy has since moved away from doing videos and has turned to a weekly current events right wing TV show on TBN. If the U.S. government wanted to do some good why not produce films like this one to offset the work of the fear feeding vampires in the Christian media world.

A look inside the wartime OSS
15 May 2004
SOLDIER OF ORANGE is a film about a group of friends who encounter the occupation of Holland by the Germans in different ways. The film splits up it's time dealing with the stories of the friends and that of one of them who becomes a high ranking member of the OSS and close political ally to the queen of Holland. The film, set during WW2, is even handed in it's approach. SOLDIER OF ORANGE is a unusual film and was made with a high degree of quality. The film goes for a sense of realism not often seen in cinema, the film, made in Holland is in dutch yet in the sequences in england it is in English. I recommend this film to WW2 buffs and fans of art-house cinema alike. Both groups will be pleased as will foreign film fans who can be assured of finding something worthwhile.

RoboCop (1987)
a violent vision of a celluloid future
13 May 2004
ROBOCOP is a future that is all too believable. With crime rampant and a company running law enforcement ROBOCOP is the hero whose gun never misses. The streets run red with blood as Robocop patrols the slums of Detroit. Robocop is a smart persons action film. ROBOCOP is written with darker than dark humor and moments which explore the half man half robots remaining humanity. One thing ROBOCOP is not is boring. The film has a steady pace which is more than enough to keep those with short attention spans awake. Adding to the believability of the film is the modern look of the surroundings. The only fantasy element in the film are the robots everything else is present day looking. The fantasy in the film never loses focus and never detracts from the film. Some films get drowned in the fantasy and fantasy elements. This one dosen't. I recommend this film but please keep in mind it has graphic violence.

flawed but fun
13 May 2004
THE FINAL CONFLICT is a flawed but fun film. The posters promised us this time around he was going for the presidency when in the film this is no such case. Thee story focuses on damien thorn who takes a job in england as US AMBASSADOR like his father. The rest of the film is like the other two, except in this one a group of priests with sanctified daggers try to kill him. THE FINAL CONFLICT sows the seeds of it's plot on well trod earth. Despite the flawed material I recommend this film to OMEN fans. The film was fun and featured a beautifully rich score. The soundtrack while quite memorable was better than the film. The film is a must for fans of the first two films and ends up being second best to the original.

F/X (1986)
A neat idea for a film
2 May 2004
F/X was a neat idea for a film. The story revolves around a special effects man recruited by the government to fake a mobsters death. The effects man is played by BRYAN BROWN and he meets the task with the enthusiasm he would for his film work until things go sour and hee gets paired with a cop named ROLLIE played by BRAIN DENNEHY. F/X works well and the inside look at the effects business works well also. Neither pretentious or boring the film gives us a hero who doesn't use a gun and instead uses a bag of special effects to battle crime. I liked F/X. I found the film to be both attention holding and imaginative; with just enough grit to make the police subplot work. The premise of the film itself is original and one of a kind. I recommend this film to fans of adventure films or a person looking the video store shelves for something different.

A well made tale of christs death becomes a phenomenom
1 May 2004
THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST was a film gamble which translated to a big hit not only with churches and believers but with the hollywood box office. Mel Gibson put his cash and his personal clout on the line to make this film which centralizes on the endurance of christ at the hands of jewish and roman torturers. The story is not found shocking, what is shocking is the way in which the film was told. The violence is enough to make Sam Peckinpah squemish. R rated the film makes ROBOCOP's X rated violented material edited from the film look tame. The violence while heavy handed conveys a message in the film. Christ loved us enough to endure these tortures to die for us. The violence is used to take a topic usually handled with sanitary film gloves and breathe into it the breathe of reality for a new modern film audience. Religious groups will find this film compelling while non-believers who are open minded can enjoy a biblical epic on a DEMILLE scale.
