God Bless America (2011)
crazy surprise
Honestly, i expected little or nothing from this movie. I had a chance to see it but thought, no this won't be much of a movie. The second time i had a chance to watch it, i thought, yeah why not. I gave it a try and was blown away by the story, the acting and the script. This movie is awesome.
Not a perfect ten but it will keep you interested. And i immediately identified with the leading male character. He's a bit of a dork but thats all about to change. The movie makes fun of itself by mentioning the movie Juno in a dialog, and at that point you'll think....yeah this is sort of like Juno. But its not. It's funnier and at the same time more true to real life. Even though it would be absurd if two people could go out killing people without them getting caught. It is an absolute must see. It's not Spiderman. Is it for intelligent people only? No. Think Kick ass meets Juno and you might come close to describing this film. But that comparison doesn't do this film any justice. Personally i was stunned to see Joel Murray's performance, he's just great.
Cell Count (2012)
nice poster, but thats all
I like the poster, but it promises something that this movie does not deliver. The movie is very slow, almost like an art-house movie. But it isn't one.
It's very boring for the first twenty minutes. And just when you think that is going to change........it doesn't. It's not scary at all, and it has some really old stereotypical characters (like a doctor with a German accent)I managed to sit through the first 45 minutes of it, i should get a medal for that. I've given it more then one chance. But it was all just a disappointment. The actors did their best (the main characters, i believed in their fictional marriage)but when you have a script this bad that doesn't help much. I will not remember this film for very long. It made absolutely no impact.
Snow White and the Huntsman (2012)
yeah not really
I was afraid this might happen. The guy from Thor meets the girl from that " fantastic " vampire trilogy called Twilight. Add to that a terrible adaptation of the original Snow white story. You end up with this mess of a movie.
Okay to be fair, i loved the witch. Who doesn't love Charlize? And i even liked the Huntsman. But the story is not scary enough to be scary. Sure i know it's an adaptation, i didn't expect to see a Disney version on the screen. But i can't help but feel that the director tried to make this a mainstream movie and payed a price. It's supposed to be a romantic film. But he also wanted to give it a dark twist. The result is a poorly made scary film. Or a not that good romantic film. It goes neither here nor there. Just a couple of pretty faces in a poorly made film, at least script wise.
Get the Gringo (2012)
Gibson does what Gibson does best
This movie has everything you want to see in an action movie. Add to that Mel Gibson's unique way of acting and your in business. All you have to do is get out your favorite snack food and something to wash it down with. Sit back and enjoy.
The storyline is very entertaining and not predictable. It keeps you on the edge of your seat and is never boring. It may sound silly, but this film has everything that makes a film a good film. The cast is great. Nice camera work, good action scenes, good script etc. etc. I was amazed at how quickly i felt part of the story and was rooting for Mel.
In my opinion the last three or four movies made by or staring Mel are all fantastic. There is a certain quality they have. And maybe quality is the only correct word to describe them. It's a feeling. It's entertainment at it's best. Great film
