Madame Web (2024)

Fun B Movie!

I went to see this with my wife expecting to see something "So Bad it was Good" like Troll 2 or The Room. I was psyched based on how the internet was reacting. I thought I must see this in the theater to be a part of this cultural moment. I was extremely dissapointed to learn I was actually enjoying this film just for being a fun B movie. Sure there was camp, and head scratching moments where I wondered how certain choices were made but ultimately I enjoyed the action, the characters, the cool costumes...Tight super hero costumes on beautiful women. I had a great time and my wife loved it too. Total reccomend for a fun date night.

Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin (2021)

Poor film making on all levels. No connection to the others. Worst of all they had no idea how to sell the found footage angle. Not a recommend. And this is coming from a fan of all the other entries in the series.

Manos Returns (2018)

An instant cult classic!!

I had the very special privilege of watching this film at its Seattle Crypticon premiere a year plus a few months ago. The first Manos is A fun "it's so bad it's good film" but this one is a straight up "its so good it's great" film. It takes the nugget of a good story from the first film and expands that into a really cool premise. Tonjia Atomic nails the direction here combining the schlocky B movie moments of the first film with some incredibly beautiful and haunting visuals. If u enjoy strong characters, high art visuals and haunting imagery this film is for you. I highly recommend it! As soon as it's released on blu Ray I'm getting a copy.

I enjoyed this. 9 quick and fun minute watch. Some pretty cool effects and camera work.

The Ouija Experiment 2: Theatre of Death (2014)

Fun and enjoyable (Maybe a little goofy but that's okay in my book)

I stumbled upon the first film in a red box and without expectations I found I rather enjoyed it so when I discovered they made a second one I was curious as to see where they would go with it. That being said I was impressed with the rather unique plot and execution of the film. The theater in the film seemed genuinely creepy and make up effects were very satisfying. The actors seemed to genuinely enjoy being in the film which makes for a positive viewing experience. Also considering the budget of the film its rather amazing and impressive that they were able to finish as tight of a film as they did. My last act of praise would be for the Friday the 13th homage at the end if you are a fan of Friday the 13th part 2 you will see what I mean. I give thanks to these fine folks that made the film and hope to see a part 3 sometime soon.

House of the Dead (2003)

Better than given credit for.

I want to tell you why this is a pretty kick ass movie. First off lets consider what the bare minimum we should expect out of a an entertaining horror movie: 1. Blood, 2. Boobs, 3. Beasts and this movie has all three in spades. The action scenes are hyper stylized yet original and interesting. The zombie effects are reminiscent of Lucio Fulci's "Zombie", plus they are practical effects, a super bonus considering many films, even those made in 2002 were relying far too heavily on cheap CGI effects. I will offer that some of the acting is pretty ridiculous at best but some performances including Clint Howard's are truly genre classic. Avoiding all story spoilers, as I think this film should be experienced in the purest way possible, I would like to point out overall the story moves at a brisk pace and never tests the audience in their patience. This film offers a lot for horror fans and whatever your previous opinion of this film is or if you haven't seen it yet I implore you to watch it again/first time with an open mind and a youthful enthusiasm for the strange and fantastic.
