Instant Hotel (2017)
Really tacky drama
I wish this was a constructive series that would give an interesting peek into the variety of instant hotels and those who own them. But the competition and some of the extremely distasteful people make this into a cheap reality drama.
Obama: In Pursuit of a More Perfect Union (2021)
Shows the historic complexities of Obama's presidency
If you one day feel you have lost faith in people and feel anger creep in, you should watch this documentary.
What stuck with me most is the heartfelt vision to serve the american people above all else. To unite people despite differences and use those different voices as a tool for positive change. A man who loves people and has an amazing faith in what we can achieve.
Colectiv (2019)
A punch in the gut
The documentary lifts the curtain on a small piece (health care system) of Romanian political corruption, and the horrific impact it has on peoples lives. The grueling thing is to imagine what this would look like when you lift the curtain on other parts of the system. I am incredibly grateful to live in Norway, where I trust the government and where change is possible when needed. We feel we can have a voice and I can't imagine how it must feel to be so powerless. An important documentary!
True Justice: Bryan Stevenson's Fight for Equality (2019)
Hopefully this doc becomes school curriculum
This documentary tells in a cohesive, thoughtful and intelligent way, how and why injustices from the past are still present today. An important documentary that I know I will watch again and again.
Outlier (2020)
Typical of Norwegian acting
As a norwegian I am always hopeful that something will break the bad spell that norwegian acting is suffering from, but sadly it is still stuck in a rut. It's simply hard to watch. Storyline and cinematics don't matter if the acters don't believe in their characters. I saw 2 and a half episode and got too annoyed and disappointed. The main charcter can't even take a sip of a beer and make it look natural. Throw away the acting curriculum and start over, we can't keep producing stuff like this.
At least we have the series EXIT with fantastic acting, that gives me some hope
Away (2020)
A glazed donut with sugar on top
This has nothing to do with going to Mars. The only aim for this series is to create cliche over the top feelings. The whispery voices with tears in their eyes is basically every minute of this thing and it just gets worse and worse. It's an insult that they think viewers need this much sugar to be engaged in a story.
Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987)
Evolution of humans
Star Trek, both next generation and the original seems to be an exploration of humanity most of all and a curiosity to see our potential, our failings, to explore ourselves from other angles. The way Data explores human emotions, it's as if the same curiosity created the early seasons of Star Trek. It's an intelligent, thoughtful and humorous look at what we are and could be. Today many seem to have lost the magic of telling stories in a way that makes people think for themselves. Now dramatic effects and emotions or drama you will almost choke on, act as if they think we have lost the ability to understand profound feeling unless it's over played and exaggerated to the maximum. Too bad because it goes against the early works of Star Trek that humans evolve, we do, but often not when it comes to money making series. Thank god for the old brilliant stories, I wish stories today could have the same intelligence.
The Mandalorian (2019)
Is there a story?
The characters are predictable and you feel like you have seen all the characters before just in different outfits and in other stories. The main story seems to have been the last priority and the most interesting part is baby Yoda (he is very cute).
Mainly you have a dude running around with a green baby, taking breaks from the running around to get into some mindless action scenes. He went somewhere, got into trouble, went on his way....then he did it again....and again.. The film effects are good, but thats not impressive anymore. We are used to flawless effects with dragons that seem real, worlds that look like mars, spaceships and powerful explosions... it's all been done and it's not enough on it's own. There needs to be a well thought out story, a plot that is different from others, a story where things that happen have a purpose other then to just kick in doors and shoot bad guys. Characters need to not seem like they were kidnapped from other movies and given a makeover.
I'm not curious wich is sad...I know what to expect next episode, unfortunately.
Lost Treasures of the Maya (2018)
Commercial for Lidar?
Lidar scans are impressive, but you would think this series was more about selling the modern tech of lidars then an actual informative documentary with fascinating new discoveries of the Mayans. The last part is what I thought I would get, but the first episode is a constant repeat of the same. Exaggerating drama where there isn't much and building expectations of great revelations that never really get to the heart of matter. Just see the first episode and sum up what you learned about the Mayans...not much...
