Les Misérables (2012)
Incredible.
Having been a fan of the stage version of Les Miserables for over 10 years, I was incredibly excited that they were going to make a movie using the musical. When I saw the cast they assembled, I was worried. I wasn't sure if the cast was up to stuff to really make this a great movie. I have to say that this movie exceeded every expectation I had of it. The cast was incredible.
The scenery, costumes, and make up are incredible. There are small details to be savored everywhere in this film. The vocals are spot on (save for Russell Crowe, his were lacking a bit of depth. However, his portrayal of Javert was impeccable).
There can't be more than 10 spoken words in the entire film. The music carries the film incredibly well. The film is well made, impeccably done, and full of emotion. The amount of emotion you feel radiating from the actors on the screen in incredible.
Run to the theatre, don't walk. Bring tissues.
The Girls Next Door (2005)
Funny, Engaging and a little bit Naughty!
Girls Next Door is a reality TV series about three females, Holly, Bridget and Kendra, that are all dating Hugh Hefner. Each of the girls is between 21 and 28. Hugh Hefner just celebrated his 80th birthday! Holly is Hef's main girlfriend and the other two are slightly lower on the food chain.
This show is very funny. There have been many funny moments throughout the seasons it's been on. It shows that the girls are smart and sensible and that they truly love Hugh Hefner. Hefner is very chivalrous and very much a gentleman. He's always a very gracious host, although he can be rather picky at times.
The Girls Next Door gives the audience a taste of what life is like in the Playboy Mansion. We get an inside look at how the mansion runs, the parties that are thrown and so much more.
This show is not for children. There is nudity (often times a lot of it) although everything is censored. However the main focus of the show is about how life is at the Playboy Mansion.
I personally LOVE this show. It's my addiction. It's an awesome TV show and gives us that taste of celebrity reality that we crave. It's funny engaging, a bit naughty and very well worth watching!
Memoirs of a Geisha (2005)
"A story like mine should never be told..." but it was a pleasure to hear it!!
I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed Memoirs of a Geisha when I read the book. This movie brought many of the scenes to life, adding in one new one that contributed to the drama. The movie did a decent amount of justice to the characters in the book by Arthur Golden.
Although many things were left out of this movie, which happens with every movie that you turn into a book, it was very well done. John Williams did a beautiful job with the score, and the sets were elaborate and beautiful. There were a few technical aspects of the costuming and makeup that were wrong, but one would only notice if they were well versed in the culture of the geisha. If all you know about Geisha is that they wear white make-up and kimono, then you shouldn't have a problem with the minor details of the costuming and make up. They are both delightful, even if they are wrong in some circumstances.
As being one who does not know the difference between the Asian actors (meaning if they are Chinese, Japanese...etc), I thought they all did a wonderful job of portraying the characters. The actors and actresses bring the characters from Golden's book to life.
It was a delightful movie. I highly suggest it to everyone to see. There is romance, drama, a touch of comedy, and a look into the world of the Geisha. Although, it is only a tiny glance, as the world of the Geisha is much more complex than anyone could ever imagine, it brings this secret world of Kyoto to life.
