In the Dark (2019)
Reminds me of the series Breaking Bad
I put off watching this for awhile because the preview didn't seem very interesting with her cutting in line at the store. But this show gets more and more interesting as the main character, who is blind, and her boyfriend, gang of friends, Cop, and IRS guy get in deeper and deeper with a drug laundering business. It all started with her looking for who killed her friend but the tangling web of crime just gets more and more intense. It reminds me of Breaking Bad in that regard as it starts as a simple search for a friends murderer and they just keep getting more involved in this drug business. I really like this show, and the boyfriend Max isn't bad to look at either. It does have several sex scenes which I fast forwarded through, but I wouldn't recommend letting kids watch it without your finger on the remote. And actually the whole plot may only be suitable for adults.
The Butterfly Effect 2 (2006)
Not sure why it's a sequel
Sure why it's a sequel because the story has no connection to the first one. They just copied some of the things from the first movie such as nosebleeds and memory loss. The time traveling didn't have the same purpose as the first and everything seemed haphazard. It was maybe entertaining but the plot wasn't profound or meaningful. And I really hate that every movie injects a vivid sex scene right in the middle so I have to rush to fast forward through inappropriate scenes.
Night Moves (2013)
A waste of time
This review is hard for me to do because it requires 10 lines and this movie was so slow and plot less that it is hard to think of 10 lines to say about it. This movie had very little dialogue and a lot of long silent pauses in this movie. Most of the time the viewer is left guessing what they are doing. The relationship between the three characters is vague and the reason they are doing what they are doing is vague, too. The acting might have been good with strong actors but they had very few lines and a very weak plot. It moved VERY slow. This was not the type of movie you would expect from Dakota Fanning and Jesse Eisenburg. Had they not been in this movie it wouldn't have even been watchable because we (the viewer) are forced to watch their zombie facial expressions throughout the whole movie. Their facial expressions often substituted for dialogue. The whole movie could be summed up that they did something bad and then felt bad about it. The end seemed like they just ran out of film or ideas and stopped.
Special Ed (2005)
excellent movie
This movie is focused on healing cancer, but it's really about healing relationships. I plan on watching it again with my son because of the issues regarding bullying and self esteem.
The doctor in this movie was the "special ed" kid as a child and his patient was the leader of the bullies who tormented him, making it even worse for him because his own father was abusive and was ashamed of him being a wimp, and was really the biggest bully of them all.
As adults the Special Ed kid is the doctor perfecting an experimental cancer treatment on the bully, and in the process they become friends. There are many issues that the two friends help each other with, and the cancer patient and his son have a lot of healing necessary in their relationship, too. Even though this covers dark subjects there are a lot of uplifting moments and humor which endears you to the characters.
I don't normally like Cancer movies, but I feel this was so much more, and the cancer was only the subject that connected these two friends, but it wasn't the whole plot. I really enjoyed it, and like I said before, will watch it again with my son.
