This Is Not a Film (2003)
Very interesting tale of love and loss...
This Is Not a Film is a movie within a movie, in the style of a documentary. It's not as confusing as that sounds.
Michael is a guy whose girlfriend has left him. So he decides to make a video depicting his relationship with her, with the hope that in a "Six Degrees" way, someone who knows her will see it and tell her (Grace) that he misses her.
So not only does this film include the scenes, but also interviews with his "family," and "friends."
Excellent performances by all, but especially Nadia, a stand out playing Nadia (Michael's friend), the fake Grace, and the fake Patty, the women who came between them.
It's really a sweet tale, very natural. We all know people like this.
8 stars out of 10.
The Joe Schmo Show (2003)
love, Love, LOVE!
I saw the first Joe Schmo, and thought it was a great concept. Who among us isn't a bit sick of the plethora of reality. In practice, it was pretty damn decent.
My favorite part of the first one was Ralph, the Smarmy Host, so how pleased am I that he's back as Derek Newcastle? Very!
The new version is a parody of reality love shows, this one called, "Last Chance for Love." Two innocents (using that term loosely) are on the show with such stereotypes as the Heir, the Stalker, the Bitch, and the Drunk Girl.
I think that this season may be even stronger and funnier than the first, as they have already experimented with the formula and now can perfect it. And watch out for Ingrid-- she'll school you good...
