Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows (2001)
Best Biopic I've Ever Seen
This movie compelled me to write a review, so as many people as possible would know to invest the time to watch the amazing acting, directing, casting, as well as the amazing true story of the incredible Judy Garland told with detail, compassion, warmth and understanding, from the vantage point of Judy's loving daughter, Lorna Luft. How well we come to understand all the players in Garland's life, and how they crashed against her rocky shores. The role of controlling, powerful men, the government and its taxation policies, and her unfortunate dependence on pharmaceutical drugs and alcohol were too much for her to bear. Poor Judy Garland, and bravo Judy Davis for her portrayal. The story is also immensely moved along by recordings of the unforgettable diva herself.
LOL (2012)
Don't believe all the negative reviews
This movie was so badly panned, that I thought it must be the worst movie ever made. Normally, I don't read reviews, but there were so many negative reviews, and I'd never even heard of this movie.
I'm a big Miley fan, so I thought, how bad can it be? Also, Demi Moore. And, the movie was great. The acting, the story, the music, cinematography, style... I loved it. The bond between Demi and Miley was so strong, and their on-screen relationship so real, it reminded me completely of my relationship with my teenage daughter. It's love hate. Mostly love, and the love is what matters.
Some people were asking for a real review, not just an attack by someone who was a devotee of the original in French. I never saw it. Maybe it was great, but who cares. Miley was GREAT here in a more adult role than Hannah Montana or that she played in her previous roles. She played it great. She's a great actress. So is Demi. They deserve better than this.
If you like Miley, if you liked Hannah Montana, if you don't need a blockbuster movie every time but just want to see some good acting on the part of some good actors, real emotions, Marlo Thomas is in it and does a great job, there's humor, and she provides some of it, feel free to see this movie. It's not really a bad movie, and Miley, Demi and Marlo are great in it.
