The Aviator (2004)
Scorsese is a master at directing.
The Aviator starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Howard Hughes, Cate Blanchett as Katharine Hepburn, Kate Beckinsale as Ava Gardner, John C. Reilly as Noah Dietrich, Alec Baldwin as Juan Trippe, and Alan Alda as Sen. Ralph Owen Brewster, directed by Martin Scorsese, is a dramatic retelling of the life of filmmaker and Aviator, Howard Hughes.
The movie begins with Howard filming the 1930 hit "Hell's Angles", and goes onto show Howard's career designing airplanes. It also tells how Howard had to deal with OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) and how the disorder almost ruined his life. Leonardo's performance as this disordered aviator was very well acted, and he could be up for an Oscar nomination. Cate Blanchett on the other hand will most likely get an Oscar nomination, for portraying actress Katharine Hepburn, and might win it too.
Like most Scorsese films, such as "Goodfellas" and "Casino", The Aviator is beautifully directed, filmed, and acted. Scorsese is a master at directing grade A films, and this film proves it. (I won't be surprised if he wins the best director award)

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004)
Billy Murray as Steve Zissou...
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, starring Bill Murray as Steve Zissou, Owen Wilson as Ned Plimpton, Cate Blanchett as Jane Winslett-Richardson, Anjelica Huston as Eleanor Zissou, Willem Dafoe as Klaus Daimler, and Jeff Goldblum as Alistair Hennessey, is a comedic satire about a washed up oceanographer, Steve, who's best friend is eaten by a shark. Steve decides to take his crew on an adventure to find and kill the shark while filming a new documentary.
The movie starts off by showing the latest Steve Zissou documentary, in which we see, his friend die. Steve then states that he is going to find and kill the deadly shark after an overnight drunk in 10 days.
First off, the movie is great. It has a weird cast of comical characters, most notably Steve Zissou, played by Bill Murray, who is the deadpan oceanographer in charge of Team Zissou. Also, there is odd CG animation, and most of all a genius-like randomness to it, like the sudden gunfight on the pirate island, which makes Wes Anderson at the top of my writing and directors lists.
Secondly, the movie isn't just laugh-out-loud stupid comedy. No. It is "smart" comedy. But that's not it. The movie will be totally funny, and then suddenly become sad. It has a wide range of emotions that make the film work.
Finally, some would say The Life Aquatic is a movie for Wes Anderson fans, people who liked Bottle Rocket (1996), Rushmore (1998), and The Royal Tenenbaums (2001). It is. I can understand why some people won't like it, but don't feel bad another blockbuster action flick will be coming soon

The Last Samurai (2003)
A Cinematic Piece of Art!
Nathan Algren, Tom Cruise, is a man trying to find peace. He is sent to Japan to train a new army to take on the Samurai, led by Kasumoto, Ken Watanabe. The untrained army is ordered to fight against the Samurai and the new army is killed, and Nathan is captured.
Durring Nathans imprisonment, he begins to understand, and respect the Samurai, eventually learning the Way Of The Samurai.
After a Winter in captivity, Nathan is let go, and can return home, but chooses to fight against the new army with the Samuari. After the last battle and the extinction of the Samurai Nathan finds the peace he has longed for.
This movie has lots of character depth, and is an emotionally charged, greatly filmed, battle filled epic, that shows the honor and pride of battle. Tom and Kens performances are executed to perfection, and make the entire movie all the better.
The only bad part to the movie was that, once again, the American are victorious over all. But that point dose'nt effect the beauty of this masterpiece.
I am sure this movie will stand the test of time, and become a classic many generations can enjoy.
Final Grade= A+ (should have won Best Picture, or at least a nomination)
Poolhall Junkies (2002)
Best of 2002!
Gregory 'Mars' Martin's Poolhall Junkies, is one of the best movies of 2002. Christopher Walken co-stars with Martin in this very well done directed "pool" movie about what to do with a talent, and Hustling!!! I mean how many pool movies have you seen? Honestly?
SO, the acting was'nt great, so what? It has laughs, and it has action, I STRONGLY suggest you go out and spend $5 to rent this at your local blockbuster, and spend 90 minuets watching it... I did, and I don't regret it.
NOW, I don't write many reviews, only for movies I really liked or hated... Now me writing this review, that's saying something!!!
WATCH IT!
